Experience the Best Apple Picking Near Portland at These 4 Orchards

Apple picking isn’t just a fun fall activity—it’s a chance to enjoy crisp air, scenic farm views, and the taste of freshly picked apples. It’s also the perfect way to create lasting memories with loved ones of all ages!

U-pick means you get to hand-pick your own fruits, creating a fun and personal experience. So, if you’re looking for a family outing, a trip with friends, or a cozy fall date, Portland’s apple orchards offer a place to slow down and connect.

From late summer to early fall, local farms offer a variety of apples to pick. I also love the fun extras like farm-to-table dinners, feeding farm animals, and more.

Mt. View Orchards offers a delightful U-pick experience for apple lovers. It’s set against the stunning backdrop of Mt. Hood, featuring a beautiful flower field. This 50-acre apple and pear farm lets visitors pick from nearly 70 apple varieties during the fall season.

Beyond u-picking, the orchard provides plenty of activities. I enjoyed taking in the scenic picnic views and snapping some photos. There’s also seasonal pumpkin patch, farm-to-table dinners, and more.

After spending time in the orchard, I couldn’t resist stopping by their stand for fresh fruits, jams, and other farm products—perfect for stocking up on local produce!

You can also try Golden Row Hard Cider, crafted from apples harvested from the orchards’ 100-year-old-trees—it’s available for tastings and to take home.

Pro tip: It’s a great place to bring your pets, but they must be kept on a leash. Also, avoid picking fruit off the ground—fallen fruit acts as natural compost, helping new crops grow.

Less than an hour from Portland, Smith Berry Barn is a 30-acre family owned farm in Hillsboro, known for its u-pick berries, apples, and fresh produce. Their five-acre apple orchard is home to over 20 varieties of antique and modern apples.

You can also stroll through their veggie gardens, where they grow specialty produce using organic methods with low-spray impact.

After filling your basket, I recommend stopping by the farm market for fresh apple cider and ready-picked produce. You’ll also find homemade preserves, raw honey from on-site hives, and customized gift baskets.  And don’t miss trying a creamy apple-berry milkshake from the espresso bar—it’s a real treat!

Their orchard features Gravenstein apples—perfect for snacking, baking, or making cider. You can also pick peaches, pears, and tomatoes—straight from the fields.

While the focus is on the fresh produce, there aren’t any extra activities. I actually appreciate the quiet, no-fuss vibe—it’s a great place to enjoy the harvest at your own pace.

Draper Girls Country Farm is home to 100-year-old apple trees that have been producing fruit for generations. I felt like I was stepping into the past while picking apples here, surrounded by towering trees and crisp fruit ready to be gathered.

After apple picking, I made sure to stop by the farm store to taste their award-winning cider, crafted from the very fruit grown on their land.

Visitors can also feed the friendly goats and snap a photo on the farm’s famous tree swing with breathtaking Mt. Hood views. It’s a timeless place to unwind and enjoy apple picking.

Pro tip: To enter the orchard, you’ll need to purchase one of three all-you-can-fill basket options.

Also, keep in mind that dogs aren’t allowed. And since bees are busy pollinating, it’s a good idea to bring sting supplies just in case.
