Where is Hollywood?
Hollywood is located in the northeast quadrant of Portland. It’s bordered by Sullivan’s Gulch, Irvington, Alameda, Beaumont-Wilshire, and Rose City Park neighborhoods. It’s also adjacent to Grant Park and Laurelhurst.
What is the main street in Hollywood?
The main streets in Hollywood are Sandy Boulevard and Northeast Broadway. These are major east-west thoroughfares that are best known for both residential and commercial areas. Sandy Boulevard is also home to the Hollywood Theater.
How to Get to Hollywood
Via bus: From downtown Portland, you can take the MAX blue, green, or red line eastbound from any downtown station. Ride until you reach Hollywood/NE 42nd Ave Station. It’ll take about 11 stops to get there. Then it’s a 5-minute walk to Hollywood.
You can also take Bus 77 from downtown. Take this route and you’ll stop near NE Halsey and 42nd Avenue. This stop is just a 3-minute walk into the heart of the district.
Via car: From downtown Portland, drive east on NE Broadway or take I-84 East (Banfield Freeway). Take Exit 2 for NE 39th Avenue/NE Cesar E Chavez Boulevard.
Then, turn left onto NE 39th and continue north before turning right onto NE Sandy Boulevard. This will bring you right into the district.
If you’re coming from the airport, follow the signs to 1-205 South. Merge onto I-84 West toward Portland and take Exit 2 for NE 39th. Follow the rest of the steps above. For those coming from East Portland, take I-84 West as well.

1. Visit the Hollywood Theatre

Your visit to Hollywood should start at the iconic Hollywood Theatre, one of the only 2 places in Oregon where you can watch a 70mm screening. The theater itself is a vintage treasure, so it’s like exploring history while you’re there.
The place often features blockbusters, cult classics, and indie gems. The lineup is always thoughtfully curated, so moviegoers have plenty of options.
If you want the best seat in the house, the second row of the upper balcony is perfect.
Just a heads-up: parking can be tricky. Most spots nearby have a 2-hour limit, which doesn’t work for longer films.

When you’re in Hollywood, you can’t miss the chance to book A Great Oregon Wine Tour. They handle every detail, from picking you up from the hotel to customizing the tour based on your preferences.

The Moon and Sixpence is a local English-style pub that’s a neighborhood favorite. Here, the start of the show is the cottage pie, with its rich and perfectly golden mashed potatoes.
If you’re a fan of pub classics, the fish and chips are a must. The tartar sauce is spot-on, plus the fish is tasty with a crispy batter. The bread pudding is also worth a try with its warm and perfectly spiced profile.
Of course, you can’t miss the drinks. There’s an impressive line-up of local beers, plus some hard-to-find English ales like Samuel Smith. If you’re into cider, though, try the blood orange for a slightly tangy kick.

What makes The Sonder Bar stand out is the energetic atmosphere. Walk in and you’ll be greeted by a wall of lush plants, shelves stacked with vinyl, and a DJ spinning some of the hottest tracks out today.
There’s a full walk of whisky and a surprising number of bourbons. The music is definitely loud, but it’s not too obnoxious to the point that you can’t carry on a bit of conversation.
There are various seating styles too: booths, bar stools, and even a patio if you need fresh air. It’s easy to pop in without a reservation, and there’s usually no wait to get seated – coming early is still advised though!

Laughing Planet is one of those spots you go to if you want a satisfying meal that won’t weigh you down. Everything is clearly labeled, so if you’re vegetarian or gluten-free, it’s easy to find something that works for you.
The menu is also fully customizable, which is perfect if you want to switch things up. For instance, you can add tempeh to your vegan chili for a protein boost. They can also make vegan substitutions on request.
They also have comfort food options like grilled chicken quesadilla with pico de gallo and their protein-packed Bollywood Bowl. You can pair your bowl with one of their rotating kombucha flavors for a complete meal.

Hollywood Vintage is massive – easily one of the largest vintage shops in Portland. You can easily spend hours here just weaving through racks of clothes, accessories, and home goods. You can even score some old VHS tapes and music CDs.
The clothing variety is wild, with options that range from ‘80s graphic tees and even theatrical costumes. Sellers here set their own pricing, though, so they can feel like a hit or miss at times – at least the vibes are always on point.
If you have the whole day, though, we recommend really taking your time here. Some finds will make you scratch your head, while others are a real steal. And don’t be shy about bargaining with the vendors if you can!

If you want to shop local, Hollywood Farmers Market is the place to go. It’s open year-round, even in winter, which makes it easy to keep fresh produce on your table no matter the season.
The produce selection is one of the best – you can probably get some Brussels sprouts, cabbage, apples, and pears, all for just $20. There are other unique finds to buy, like fresh mushrooms, local honey, and wildflowers.
It’s not just fruits and veggies, either. You’ll find things like fresh seafood, handmade sausages, and candles. There are dry goods like beans and flour too, so you can drop by in case you’re stocking up on your weekly needs.
3. Antique Alley

Antique Alley is one of those places you can easily spend hours in. The place is packed with vendors offering everything from vintage Levi’s to retro toys, VHS tapes, and handmade jewelry.
The price range varies depending on the condition and rarity of items. Fortunately, many booths are willing to haggle or accept offers, especially for higher-ticket items. Though in general, there are many affordable collectibles in the place.
If you get hungry, there’s a little cafe inside too called Aunt Tillie’s. It’s a local staple that has been here for over 30 years. Stop by and grab a bite before or after browsing – their mac salad is pretty famous!

There’s an outdoor common area that feels like a cozy backyard with hammocks, yard games, and fire pits. If you’re traveling solo, it’s a great space to meet other guests in the area and maybe make some friends.
Safety is a key factor too – the property is gated with a secure entrance code. On top of that, you’re in the middle of everything – local shops, restaurants, and a movie theater are all just a stroll away.

Speaking of which, it’s best to stay at their Penthouse Gallery to enjoy a big space. It’s 725 square feet, with a fireplace, dining table, and two bathrooms. If you’re with the fam, this may be great for longer stays.
There’s a minor arcade downstairs, with complimentary drinks during the 5:00 PM happy hour. Parking is easy as well, as they’re a garage right across the street – it’s cheaper than valet!

The Society Hotel is a charming, budget-friendly gem that’s ideal for solo travelers or couples. If you want to save on accommodation, you can book their private room with a shared bathroom, which you can easily find across the hall.
One of the best things about the place is the rooftop. It’s quiet, open to all guests, and has fantastic views of the city skyline, especially at night. You can bring a drink from the downstairs cafe and enjoy the sunset from one of the benches.
Location-wise, the hotel is just one block away from the Chinese Garden and a couple of minutes away from the waterfront and Saturday Market. Most bars and local restaurants are within a 3-minute walk too.
If you want to save on parking, you can try the garage that’s close to the Japanese American Museum of Oregon. Fees average at $20 for a weekend.
