The Top 5 Auction Houses in Portland

The Top 5 Auction Houses in Portland

How We Picked

Reputation

An auction house needs to be credible whether you’re participating in the auction or you’re selling your goods. To ensure an auction house is trustworthy, we based this on their years in business and past sales.

Expertise

Of course, they also need to know what they’re doing so that everything runs smoothly. We based this on their knowledge and selling techniques.

Market reach

We think this is especially important if you have a product you want to sell. You want to make sure an auction house has the right contacts so that they can connect you to people who will be interested in what you’re selling.

Pros

  • A lot of clients mentioned that prices are affordable
  • The auction house pays immediately
  • Holds auctions every 45 days
  • A full-service auction company
  • Offers free quotation online

Cons

  • Some clients mentioned that their website is not user-friendly

One of the reasons why we added Commercial Industrial Auctioneers to our list of top auction houses in Portland is because of their affordable pricing.

When we sat down with some past clients, most of them said that they were able to get great deals because of C.I.A.

We think this is why some of those we’ve talked to have been going here for years.

Other things we’ve learned about this auction house is that they are a full-service auction company, which means they handle the setup, marketing, load-up, and cleanup.

If you’re someone who’s looking to sell their products, this means that you don’t have to worry about anything because C.I.A. has it all covered.

According to the clients we’ve talked to, C.I.A. pays the sellers immediately, so you don’t have to worry about a long process before being able to get your money.

Moreover, they hold auctions every 45 days, so you could say it happens pretty often.

While a lot of the clients we’ve talked to had a pleasant shopping experience, there were a few who felt there were things that could be improved.

Some mentioned that it was quite frustrating to bid on their website because it’s not user-friendly. We think this is important to consider in case you’re looking for something with the easiest shopping experience.

However, if you’re looking for great deals, we suggest not writing off Commercial Industrial Auctioneers on your list of options just yet.

We think you should give them a call to see what got other people hooked.

Pros

  • Quick processing
  • Wide inventory
  • Has more than 15 payment methods
  • Has an app available

Cons

  • Long wait time on the phone
  • Some clients complained about poor customer service

We added Copart to the list because their way of processing the items customers bought is pretty fast. This was mostly based on the delivery because a lot of them reported receiving the item as early as a day or two.

Copart also has an extensive inventory of cars, trucks, motorcycles, and the like – which according to them, they have almost 200,000 of.

We like that they’re very online-buyer-friendly. You can try winning an auction online or let their proprietary software do it for you.

Some clients also mentioned that they were quite satisfied with the number of payment methods available.

Copart accepts wire transfers, ePay, debit cards, Western Union, and wallet apps such as Google Pay, Paypal, and a lot more. We thought this was extremely convenient for a lot of people, which we know their clients would also agree with.

However, to bid on their website you first have to be a member. Thankfully, the registration is quick and free. You just have to upload a copy of your government-issued ID.

Once Copart employees have reviewed and approved your documents and account information, you will be an official Basic Copart Member. Being so will automatically grant you $1,000 in buying power.

Another convenient thing about Copart is that they also have an app available, so you can easily bid on what you want wherever you go.

Still, there were also some inconvenient things about Copart that clients also mentioned.

One, there’s a long wait time on the phone. A lot of the clients we talked to were frustrated by this because they waited for more than a few minutes.

There were also a few who complained that the customer service was poor. The clients have different reasons, but ultimately, we think that it’s certainly a problem Copart should address.

Nonetheless, we still think this auction house is worth recommending because of the different opportunities they provide to help their clients have a more pleasant experience.

We do hope that they make a few adjustments and improvements to their customer service to be able to make the clients’ experience much better.

Pros

  • New vehicles each week
  • Auctions are every Wednesday
  • Provide free breakfast buffets
  • Have been in business since 2008
  • Staff members are informative and knowledgeable

Cons

  • A few customer complaints about poor customer service

We’ve noticed that Crosspoint Dealer Auction goes out of its way to make its auctions pleasurable for its clients.

Since their auctions are at 9 AM, for example, they conveniently have free breakfast buffets at their auction.

Moreover, there are also a lot of new vehicles every time. We found out that a lot of their clients go to them for these reasons because you can go to several of their auctions and be surprised by their inventory every time.

We think this is because they’ve been in business since 2008, so they have a concrete idea of what clients what but it isn’t often being offered by their competitors.

According to the customers that we’ve talked to, the staff they’ve encountered were quite informative and knowledgeable.

This is in terms of the process and the vehicles they were selling. While this is to be expected, we still think it’s commendable and is truly worth highlighting.

If you want to be ensured that the staff will be able to answer your inquiries, Crosspoint Dealer Auction is worth considering.

However, other clients also told us that they’ve received poor customer service. Some of this was because of the person at the front desk, while others said it was overall.

We’d like to note that only a few people mentioned this, so this might be because Crosspoint Dealer Auction already improved its service.

We sure do hope so because there are a lot of things that make them remarkable.

Pros

  • Energetic and enjoyable auctions
  • Offers free consultation
  • Customizes services based on clients’ needs

Cons

  • Relatively new to the industry

We think that one of the things that make Marquam Auction Agency stand out from the rest is its ability to make auctions fun.

This is based on the feedback of tons of clients we had the chance to talk to. It seems that this is Marquam’s forte and appeal.

A lot of clients even mentioned that they loved the energy of the hosts. Not only were the hosts enthusiastic, but they were also quite knowledgeable about their work.

Marquam also does different kinds of events from small to large scales. This includes virtual live fundraisers, fusion fundraisers, galas and auctions, garden parties, and a lot more.

Just send them a message of your idea and they will creatively form a strategy that would help with your success. Additionally, they can also customize their services based on what you need and want.

Other clients also mentioned the great assistance the people at Marquam Auction Agency provide, that they even help every step of the way.

We also heard that they are great at strategizing, which helps make the turnout of the event successful.

While there are a lot of great things to say about Marquam Auction Agency and how they handle their work, we’ve noticed that they haven’t been in the business for a long time compared to most.

This is not exactly a bad thing, but it could still be a point that a lot of people consider hence, we decided to mention it.

We do think that having a shorter experience isn’t a handicap on their part because a lot of satisfied clients said they were able to execute the events flawlessly.

If you’re in the market for a full-service fundraising and events agency, you might have found your match.

Pros

  • Great-value inventory
  • Offers a variety of art pieces, jewelry, home decor, and more
  • Their website is easy to navigate
  • Online bidding is available

Cons

  • Some clients complained about the customer service

Most clients who rave about O’Gallerie and bought items from them had similar things to say to us. Chiefly, that they loved the auction house’s inventory.

There were a lot of varieties being sold such as collectibles, rugs & carpets, jewelry, art pieces, and more. Some are even hard-to-find pieces!

We love how a good number of the available items are listed on their website, so you have an idea of what to expect at the next auction.

We discovered that not everyone offers such a generous preview of the upcoming auctions, so we thought this was quite convenient. This is one of the reasons why we think their website is so easy to navigate.

All the information one might need for either buying or selling is already readily available. All you need to do after reviewing them is schedule an appointment.

We love how the process is already that easy firsthand, making a lot of things a lot easier for their clients.

They can also send you the catalog via email in a punctual manner, so you have time to review what you want to bid on.

After having the chance to interview their clients, we also learned that the people at O’Gallerie were quite responsive, so they felt that the auctions were quite organized.

They also mentioned how easy it was to bid online or by phone and a lot of them almost didn’t have problems with it.

There were still clients who felt that their customer service was subpar. Some claimed the staff to be rude, while some complained that O’Gallerie lost their items.

That being said, we think it might be better to be a buyer at this auction house instead of a seller.

Overall, we still think they’re worth the shot especially if you’re an art enthusiast looking for unique items to add to your collection.
