The 5 Best High Teas in Portland Where You’ll Want to Spill It (Pinky Lifting Required)
There are definitely those moments when we want to feel as if we’re in Jane Austen movies— polished words, cool outfits. Totally understandable. But is there ever a way to actually live out that dream?
Typically served in the late afternoon or early evening, high tea is basically a dinner with a fresh hot pot of tea. Dating back to the 19th century, high tea was enjoyed at tall tables with high-backed chairs—hence the name.
And my friend, I can genuinely say, without a doubt, I have felt that in my very soul. These enchanting high teas in Portland bewitched me and I never wish to be parted from them from this day on.

At Champagne Poetry Patisserie, your gallery is about to get a whole lot of love. It’s easy to see why the place is so popular. Its aesthetic alone has people raving about it and discovering it through social media.
Upon visit, we can totally see why. The moment we stepped in, we were greeted by the pink floral walls and the angel wings.
It’s not your typical English high tea with tiered trays and finger sandwiches. Instead, they blend glam with French and Japanese-inspired desserts.
We tried their Coconut Thai tea and boba tea, which didn’t taste too strong, and the boba had a great chewy texture. Their pastries are just as beautiful as they look online, and they’ve got tea-based desserts like the boba tea cupcake that’s apparently a hit with kids.
When we visite, they’re great at getting new customers seated and making sure the food comes out on time.
However, we’d love it if they improve on the consistency of their flavors. Some of the tea-based desserts tasted burnt or bitter in a few instances. One customer also mentioned missing items in their order, like a cookie or extras they didn’t ask for.
Love the coconut Thai tea!
First time here and absolutely love it. Will definitely be back! Got the coconut Thai tea, raspberry/blackberry mimosa, and a couple macarons to share. Love the energy of the cashier as well, he was very friendly.

Super cute tea spot for my IG feed!
Everything about Champagne Poetry was cute, pink, and tasty!! This is definitely a photo op hotspot!! With Pink decor and beautifully decorated treats; you can’t help but to post on IG. I had the oreo cheese cake, earl Grey macaron, and iced pineapple green tea. The cheese cake was worth every penny! I’m from the south so I’m not used to unsweetened ice tea but the flavor was good. The macaroon was a little chewy but the flavor pull through as well.

From the detailed stained glass on every door to the ornate designs all over Victorian Belle, it felt like we stepped into a fairytale. While some visitors were surprised by how much smaller it was than they expected, the beauty and charm of the place left them completely satisfied.
Foodwise, we were pleasantly surprised by the generous portions and lovely presentation. The scones in particular stood out— we tried the peach flavor, and it had just the right texture and sweetness without being overwhelming.
However, not everyone was impressed with every dish. Some mentioned that the egg sandwiches were a bit bland, and the smoked salmon sandwiches had more cream cheese than the salmon.
As for the tea, there’s a wide selection to choose from. We went with Smith’s, which lived up to the praise for its high quality and low astringency. It was a smooth, flavorful experience. It paired really well with the sweet and savory items on the tray.
The staff were friendly, although a few customers did express frustration with the service. One mentioned issues with the reservation process and felt ignored when requesting hot water.
Others found the pricing inconsistent. For instance, during an event, one couple was charged $28 for their food donation instead of $10 per adult. Good thing the shop acknowledged the issue and reached out to resolve it.
Our go-to Victorian tea place.
I have been here twice now for their Afternoon Tea events. Always good food and a nice selection of Teas in a lovely Victorian setting.

Superb experience at Victorian Belle’s beautiful mansion!
One of the most delightful experiences in Portland is high tea at the Victorian Belle! The food, service and setting are all superb. Unlike a typical restaurant experience, the tables are cozied into the nooks and crannies of the various, delightfully decorated rooms in the Belle. When you are done enjoying high tea, you can take a stroll through the rest of the mansion and its beautifully curated grounds.

Tucked away in a cozy old Victorian house, Enthea is a little slice of tea heaven where the experience is just as important as the tea itself. Surrounded by lush greenery and traditional Chinese decor, it felt like stepping into a completely different world.
As soon as we walked in, we were asked to kick off our shoes and slip into comfy house slippers. This instantly sets the mood with its calming vibe.
With over 150 loose-leaf teas personally sourced from China by the owner, there’s always something new to try. We especially loved the oolongs and unique blends like Tulsi and Peach Oolong, which everyone we’ve spoken to raves about.
The staff is super friendly and really knows their stuff, often sharing interesting tea facts that make the experience even better. If you’re into great tea and a relaxed, mindful vibe, this place is a winner.
That said, the place can feel a bit cramped, and the chairs aren’t the comfiest. Still, the quality tea, friendly staff, and the whole mindful experience keep people coming back.
Cozy and calming tea house.
Very pleasant little house with two rooms available to hang out and drink tea. There’s a fireplace to keep cozy and a small outdoor table for nicer weather. The gentle music goes perfectly with the tea (which can be brewed 20-30x in small batches) to provide a lovely, calming experience. Highly recommend! Oh, and they only allow slippers (provided) inside the establishment which is a nice touch. We tried the Shou Tea which had nice notes of fruit.

Thanks Enthea for my new friends!
Such an amazing place–warm, nourishing and delicious. The Friday night community event, “SpeakTeasy”, has been such a joyful place for tea, making new friends, and deep, thoughtful conversation.

When drinking tea, it’s all about relaxing, and this spot will definitely guide you into a deep, meditative state. The name “Bardo” comes from a Buddhist concept that refers to different leaves of the dream state. In the context of tea, it’s all about taking a pause and just sipping.
The shop is in a converted carriage house with three distinct rooms, each offering its own vibe. We got to sip tea in a traditional tatami room (shoes off, of course), and enjoy the tea bar, where you can sample a variety of teas while seated on one of the four tall stools.
We’ve had the pleasure of trying white tea, Pu-erh, and oolong. Each one is as delightful as it is beautifully packaged. One customer told us they picked up a brick of Pu-erh, which has become part of their daily routine, and we can totally understand why.
It’s a little on the pricier side, but we—and many others say it’s totally worth it and compares well to other high-end brands like Tao of Tea.
It’s a deeply passionate tea experience, but there are a few things to note. One customer had to wait 45 minutes to be served and left feeling frustrated.
Hopefully, they can improve on this aspect because, as we all know, the experience is the most crucial part of it all.
This tea place feels like home.
This cozy yet vibrant tea shop beautifully blends Japanese minimalism with the warmth of Indian hospitality, creating a truly special atmosphere. Service is another highlight—the staff is knowledgeable, welcoming, and always ready to recommend the perfect tea based on your preferences.

Always an enlightening experience at Bardo.
Bardo is special. I appreciate the owners’ knowledge, friendliness, and passion and their generosity in sharing their love of tea with others. I’ve been enjoying their oolongs in particular, and their incense is some of the highest quality I’ve experienced (the sandalwood and red sandalwood are both amazing). So grateful for Bardo!

Kidding aside, Abigail Hall is a charming and unique spot, perfect for special occasions like birthdays or dressing up just for the fun of it. The atmosphere is playful and themed, and we loved seeing how everyone really got into it with their outfits.
The tea selection is solid. We especially enjoyed Black Lavender—super aromatic and calming. The Lord Bergamot tea and sherry pairing works well for both tea enthusiasts and those who aren’t as into tea.
The service is usually friendly and helpful, which makes the experience enjoyable. However, some recent visits from customers we spoke to shared complaints about feeling like an inconvenience or having to wait on themselves.
In terms of food, it’s a bit hit or miss. Some guests have found food to be less fresh or lacking in flavor—pastries have been served cold, and there have been mentions of smaller portions.
That said, if you’re looking for a cute, themed experience with a solid tea selection, it’s still worth checking out.
Will be back for the charming ambiance and great Smith tea!
Absolutely beautiful ambiance! It is very well decorated, perfect for tea! The tea was delicious, only wish that they sold the teas they offered. We had to actually go to Smith Tea to get the tea we had because we loved it so much. Other than that, I cannot complain about this place. The little finger sandwiches, scones, and cookies/cakes were perfect and went very well with our tea. Drinks were absolutely amazing. Everything paired well together. Overall, it was a great experience. The service was friendly. Something different to do, and I will definitely be back!

Worth the reservation!
High Tea at Abigail Hall is delightful! Reservations must be made in advance, but it’s worth the planning. Huge fan of Smith tea, and the sweet and savory treats were delicious and filling. I will be back!
