Pros
- Helpful clinic staff
- Competent and experienced doctors
- Accepts Medicare
- Can see patients on short notice
- Accepts 12 insurance plans
- Considerate towards expenses
Cons
- Service may vary on doctor available
Audiology Center Northwest was one of the most popular clinics when we began our search. With multiple attending audiologists, you’ll be able to find yourself an appointment in no time.
We were pleased to find out that all of their doctors were competent and had years of experience. Of course, you’ll be able to choose which audiologist you’ll be most comfortable with, but we believe all of them to be great candidates.
Their audiologists have a similar approach to each patient: to be as friendly and accommodating as possible. They break down the results of your diagnostic tests in a way you can understand and are determined to find you a hearing aid that suits you best.
Additionally, their audiologists understand the pros and cons of each hearing device well and will give you an objective opinion on which device they think is best for you.
We find this very admirable, as they don’t come across as promoting specific products to their patients.
If you need to get your hearing aid fixed or serviced, they can do assessments, repairs, and cleaning on any hearing device. It doesn’t matter if you’ve been a patient of theirs or not because they’ll be happy to do that for you.
We also commend how upfront they are on expenses, whether from checkups, tests, or the cost of hearing aids. You’ll be given an accurate estimate of your possible expenses before you pay anything.
That said, we can vouch for Audiology Center Northwest for your audiology needs, especially if you need things done quickly.

Pros
- Caring and patient doctor
- Accepts Medicare
- Thorough evaluation and diagnosis
- Accepts patients of all ages
- Doctor has a background in ear, nose, and throat clinics
Cons
- Limited private insurance plans accepted
While being run by only one doctor, Audiology Associates has built a good reputation during its 19 years of operation. The clinic is run by Dr. Alison Metcalf, an audiologist passionate about her field.
Dr. Metcalf is eager to give hearing care to as many patients as possible and occasionally makes medical mission trips overseas. Despite her busyness, every patient she sees gets the same attentive and thorough care.
What matters to Dr. Metcalf most is the hearing health of her patients. So whether you’re looking for hearing aids or hearing protection, she’s got you covered.
Besides ensuring each patient gets the proper hearing device for them, Dr. Metcalf also teaches you how to use and care for a hearing aid properly. This makes her a good fit for those seeing an audiologist for the first time.
If your hearing aid is no longer suitable for you for any reason, she’s willing to adjust them to fit your preferences or help you choose a new one entirely.
Her clinic is also helpful when it comes to setting follow-up appointments for you and reminding you of your device’s maintenance.
Our only concern was with their limited private insurance plans accepted, so be sure to ask whether they take your insurance before setting an appointment. But if you’ve got Medicare, then you have nothing to worry about.
Overall, what left a mark on her patients and got Audiology Associates a spot on this list is Dr. Metcalf’s bedside manner. She keeps a lively and approachable demeanor, maintaining a good atmosphere for her patients—new and old.

Pros
- Sees patients of all ages
- Works with Veteran Affairs
- Does follow-up calls in between appointments
- Cozy clinic
- Doctor is a good communicator
- Has an in-house speech pathologist
Cons
- Closed on Fridays
Dr. Evonne Serpa runs the Hearing Resources Audiology Center, and her patients’ feedback has been excellent. She knows how to adjust her communication style to each person in her clinic, whether a child, a military vet, or a geriatric patient.
She’s thorough in her assessment, ensuring each patient understands their condition. If you’re seeing her for hearing loss or seeking to protect your hearing, she’ll give you tips that can help you adjust to your new device or lifestyle.
Her dedication to ensuring each patient gets the proper hearing aid impressed us most. In addition, she can give trial hearing aids for you to determine whether the device is suitable for you before you decide to purchase it.
Another thing patients admired was how considerate Dr. Serpa was regarding their budget. She understands financial limitations yet, at the same time, ensures you get a device that will last you a few years.
Her clinic makes follow-up calls between appointments to check on you and whether your hearing aid is still functioning well. They also have a speech pathologist in their clinic, which is especially helpful for pediatric patients.
You’ll be glad to know Dr. Serpa takes her time with each patient in their appointments, and none of her patients feel they were rushed. But, unfortunately, they’re closed on Fridays, so you have to call ahead to secure your slot.

Pros
- Knowledgeable doctor
- Accepts Medicare and Medicaid
- Easy to set appointments
- Good record of patient loyalty
- Has two locations in Portland
Cons
- Few instances of billing issues with insurance
- Minor complaints of inconsiderate staff
Dr. Allison Bradley runs the Pacific Audiology Clinic and has left a good mark on her patients. With two locations in Portland, you won’t have trouble looking for a more convenient clinic.
The most common feedback we heard from Dr. Bradley’s patients was they were impressed by how empathetic she was to them. Some patients who had anxiety about going to an audiologist were comfortable under her care.
The new patients who initially came to her feeling conscious about their hearing loss no longer felt that way after their first appointment. She can explain assessments without making the patient feel ashamed about their condition.
In fact, we’ve discovered that her biggest patient group is senior citizens. They commended how considerate she was and how well she assisted them in setting up their hearing aids.
We also admire how Dr. Bradley works with what your insurance plan offers and ensures you get the most out of it. However, some patients did report issues with insurance billing, but you’ll be relieved to know that the clinic staff was eager to fix it.
A few also complained about the clinic staff, claiming they were inconsiderate, if not a bit rude. But what makes up for it is the care they receive from Dr. Bradley herself, which explains why she’s got a good record of patient loyalty.
Overall, each patient of hers we’ve spoken to were happy to be under her care. Just be sure to call the correct number for the location you plan to visit before you set an appointment.

Pros
- Accepts Medicare
- Comfortable clinic
- Very responsive
- Empathetic doctor
- Doctor knows American Sign Language
- Offers ear protection fitting
Cons
- Short clinic hours
- Small business may mean limited availability
You’ll be surprised that Koru Hearing looks more like a café than a clinic. They even give drinks upon your arrival, so you know they want you to feel as comfortable as possible.
The clinic space is small but appropriately designed, so it doesn’t feel cramped. It’s also a small business compared to others on this list, which explains the short clinic hours.
However, that doesn’t deter Dr. Leslie Young, the attending audiologist of Koru Hearing. She gives adequate time to each patient during their appointments, with one noting their appointment went for nearly three hours!
Dr. Young is also very dedicated to her patients. Should you have any concerns after your appointment, she gives you her personal number and is willing to communicate with you outside clinic hours.
Like her patients, we were in awe of how detail-oriented she is. She can tweak a hearing aid to guarantee its proper adjustments for your needs and spot even the smallest issues.
She’s not one to easily give up on patients either and isn’t afraid to take the time to find you the suitable device or treatment, even if it’s going to take months.
Additionally, she’ll give patients a trial period on their hearing aid before purchasing them to ensure it’s the right one.
As we mentioned, they have short clinic hours, so if you only have minor concerns or need clarification, you can call them instead. That way, you can save time in case Dr. Young is in an appointment once you get there.
