The Best Composite Decking in Portland Is in These 5 Companies
I dreamed of a space where I could sip my morning coffee, host BBQ parties, and not worry about splinters or endless maintenance. That’s when I decided it was finally time to replace the old wood deck behind my home.
After suggestions from relatives and close friends, I decided to look for some composite deck boards. After all, it’s low-maintenance, weather-resistant, and good-looking.
But with so many options, finding the best composite decking in Portland to bring my vision to life feels like searching for a needle in a haystack. Despite that, I didn’t lose hope.
After what felt like hundreds of hours scrolling and comparing, I found these local companies that truly know their stuff.
| How much does composite decking cost in Portland? Composite decking in Portland typically costs between $50 and $150 per square meter, excluding labor. |
1. Grand Decks

Address: 643, 3055 NW Yeon Ave
Phone: +1 503 939 3835
Business hours:
- Mon-Sat: 8 AM – 6 PM
The Grand Decks team that came by my house was very professional. They took the time to understand what I wanted and offered suggestions that made the final design better than I imagined.
When it comes to composite deck boards, you have the choice between boards from Trex or TimberTech. TimberTech is known for real wood-looking boards, while Trex offers eco-friendly products.
What’s even better is that they offer deck resurfacing, which is more cost-effective than replacing your old deck boards. They replace the top layer of old deck boards with new ones, preserving the structures underneath without compromising durability.
Many of their past clients I spoke to also praised their craftsmanship, and I can see why. Every board they placed in my place was perfectly aligned and matched up with the structure.
The only drawback is their limited coverage area. They only operate in some cities of the Portland metropolitan area.
We couldn’t be happier with the results!
“So happy! We recently had our deck extended by Grand Decks, and we couldn’t be happier with the results! From start to finish, their team was professional, communicative, and incredibly skilled. They took the time to understand our vision and offered great suggestions that made the final design even better than we imagined. The craftsmanship is outstanding—every board is perfectly aligned and matched up with the existing structure. The deck has completely transformed our outdoor space into a beautiful and functional area where we now spend so much more time as a family. They stayed on schedule, and delivered exactly what they promised. It’s rare to find a company that combines quality work with such exceptional service. We highly recommend Grand Decks to anyone looking to build or upgrade their deck. You won’t be disappointed!”

They were great to work with
“From beginning to conclusion, they were great to work with. Nick arrived to appointments on time with a very wide selection of products from which to choose and always followed through with commitments. I have never seen men work harder and with such a good and polite manner then Armando and Pedro, especially Armando, who carried the bulk of the load. Alex, always accommodating, was a conscientious and meticulous supervisor. The project turned out even better than I had hope for. I highly recommend them.”

2. Big Works

Address: 16106 Forsythe Rd, Oregon City
Phone: +1 503 715 7599
Business hours:
- Mon-Fri: 8 AM – 6 PM
Big Works garnered positive remarks not just online but also from the people I interviewed. Most of them told me that the team that took on their project did an excellent job.
One of their key strengths is their coverage area, which extends beyond Portland. This means you can hire them wherever you’re located within the city (and even outside).
Another strength is their ability to communicate with their clients every step of the way. One of the people that I talked to appreciated how the team kept him updated at every stage, which made him feel reassured throughout the process.
During our conversation, one of their staff told me that they provide and install customised capped composite deck boards. These are a great choice since they resist staining far better than traditional composite boards.
The real cherry on top, though, is the fact that their TimberTech decking comes with a warranty of at least 25 years. The kind of peace of mind that warranty offers is definitely worth the high initial investment.
However, they’re always fully booked, so it can be hard to hire them. Contact them as soon as you can to secure a slot.
We highly recommend this company
“Big Works replaced a deck and repaired water damaged siding on our home. Their pricing was very reasonable for the amount of work accomplished. They were quick and very professional. Their work crew was very accurate and if something was not up to exact standards they replaced it or reworked to make it perfect. They used only the highest quality materials from a local lumber yard. James the owner was always in contact to assure we were completely satisfied with work in progress and final product. We highly recommend this company for all your construction needs.”

Super easy to work and get along with
“Had the pleasure of working with James on my deck. Old thing was rotting and chipping, so needed to replace the whole thing. Found Big Works online with surprising reviews and gave it a shot. James was super professional from the first phone call. Super easy to work and get along with, did a very good and careful job. Made sure to update me on the process the whole way and answer questions I had very respectfully. Will definitely be working with him and his crew again if needed! I highly recommend.”

3. Cascade Fence and Deck

Address: 6529 NE Sandy Blvd Suite 207
Phone: +1 541 779 6092
Business hours:
- Mon-Fri: 8 AM – 5 PM
I was impressed that Cascade Fence and Deck has been around since 1997. That’s almost three decades long! That kind of longevity speaks volumes about their craftsmanship, and the former clients I spoke with confirmed it.
Many people raved about how fast the team works. Some even said they finished the project ahead of the deadline without compromising quality.
As for me, I appreciate them for answering all my questions with as much detail as possible. Their efforts to provide me with the best answer made me confident in recommending them to others.
I also found it reassuring that they back their work with a 50-year structural warranty. That’s half a century of protection, giving you serious long-term peace of mind.
For their product, they provide and install customised composite deck boards from Deckorators. This board is highly resistant to scratches, stains, and moisture.
That said, one person I interviewed told me that the team failed to clean her place after completing the project, leaving behind some screws. It was a small flaw in what was otherwise a positive experience.
You will not be disappointed
“I just had my deck installed with Cascade Fence and Deck, and they have exceeded my high expectations. The final product is everything I wanted. From our first interaction with Mike, to our install with Seth (our Foreman) and Rhett (our craftsman) the staff was amazing. Even when we had minor issues they were willing to do everything that we asked to make sure we liked the outcome. Given the opportunity to work with them in the future I would definitely do so. No doubts, if you pick them for your project you will not be disappointed.”

We can’t recommend them enough
“Our deck was in need of replacing for both safety issues, as well as making it bigger and better. After getting a couple bids, we went with Cascade for many reasons, including their quick responsiveness, very thorough discussion about design and our overall wants, and professionalism shown throughout. We worked with Mike on the design, Jason for our project management, but were most blown away by Eion (the foreman), and his sidekick Dylan. From start to finish, they were very communicative and courteous. We knew what time they’d be starting every day, and what their plan was for the day. They were efficient, yet still gave us a quality product. They listened to our concerns about a few nuances of the design, and made sure they got it to our specifications. Each day they cleaned up after themselves. They even went as far as bringing up our trash cans. Above and beyond! We can’t recommend them enough.”

4. Wood Worx, Inc

Address: 1019 SE Foxglove Dr, Gresham
Phone: +1 971 381 4964
Business hours:
- Mon-Sun: 6 AM – 6 PM
Wood Worx is a family-owned business with over 30 years of combined experience in design and construction. Being family-run means they share a clear vision and work closely together, which comes through in their quality and consistency.
Their daily operation is one of their advantages over competitors. Thanks to this, I was able to talk to them on a Sunday afternoon, the only time of day when I don’t have errands.
During the conversation, they told me that they offer and install customised composite deck boards. They’re versatile too and can install deck boards in any outdoor living spaces, such as patios, around pools, and more.
If you think your board is just a bit old but still good inside, I highly recommend trying their deck repair services. They offer everything from simple fixes to waterproofing, which can really extend the life of your deck.
However, they only operate in select cities of the Portland metropolitan area. It’s still worth a try to call them and ask if they work in your area, though.
Turned out better than we imagined
“Ryan and Tyler were both great. Ryan came out and spent some time talking to me about what we wanted for our fence and had an estimate ready for us within a day or two. After we decided to proceed they let us know when they were available to start the project, and Tyler showed up right when they said they would and finished when they said they would at all. Our yard is a little challenging being on a slope and with several retaining walls to work around, but Ryan did an awesome job and it turned out better than we imagined that it would. I’d highly recommend Wood Worx, and we plan on having them back out ourselves at some point to extend the deck in our backyard.”

One of my best experiences with contractors
“I just had Wood Worx build a pergola in my backyard and I must say it was definitely one of the best experiences with contractors I have encountered. I was beyond impressed with the quality and beauty of the cedar pergola they built. Not to mention, it only took one day for the crew to build and finish it. They were professional, consultative, reliable, and good listeners. I felt confident they knew what I was wanting and took the time to address all of my questions. I greatly appreciated the consultation piece as it put me at ease having Ryan address my questions along with providing me options of wood selection and design. I highly recommend Wood Worx and cannot thank them enough. Loving my pergola, just in time for the spring and summer weather!”

5. Three Rivers Custom Decks

Address: 23885 South Mountain Terrace, Beavercreek, Oregon
Phone: +1 503 632 8777
Business hours:
- Mon-Fri: 8 AM – 5 PM
For over 25 years, Three Rivers Custom Decks has transformed plain-looking outdoor spaces into stunning spots. It’s admirable that they still excel in what they do to this day.
In my undercover consultation with the team, I discovered that they offer capped composite deck boards. This is far greater than the composite products used in most places, as the capped material is an excellent added protection to the board.
What’s even better is that they operate throughout Portland and its surrounding areas, such as Troutdale, Canby, and more! It’s a guarantee that you can hire them as long as you’re within the city.
Many of their former clients I talked to also commended them for their unmatched patience. One woman told me that they didn’t get irritated with the several changes she requested.
However, some people expressed disappointment that it took over a week for them to score an appointment.
They did an outstanding job
“Dave and his crew did an outstanding job. Dave communicated frequently and listed to our input. The crew was wonderful and cleaned up when done (not all our contractors have done that). Detail. Our deck is over 50′ tall and was unsafe. Stairs were wobbly, pickets were loose, railings shook. (see last photo below) Three Rivers Decks’ engineers evaluated the work and recommended the best course of action at the most reasonable cost. The work included replacing rotted wood posts with steel, replacing rotting slats with Trek, removing one set of stairs and repairing the other. All was done efficiently and the result is a beautiful and safer new deck.”

The quality of their work is amazing
“If you are considering a new deck in the new year, get on the waitlist for Three Rivers asap! The quality of their work is amazing. The crew who replaced our old deck did an incredible job. Their attention to detail is outstanding. They kept on schedule even with some rot found on the house (which they were able to repair quickly at a very affordable cost). The yard/worksite was kept neat and tidy at the end of the day and they were on time at the start of the next. I cannot rave enough about how wonderful it was to work with them. I am very much looking forward to spending so much more time outside after the winter passes!”
