How We Picked
Location
We assessed courses based on their accessibility, clean surroundings, and background views. Location is among the most crucial factors for us in evaluating golf courses.

Pros
- Listed on the National Register of Historic Places
- 18-hole golf course
- Playable tree-line course
- Great views
- Pro shop and grill available
- Quick at addressing customer complaints
Cons
- Can be a bit challenging
- Complaints about being poorly maintained
Another 18-hole track is at Rose City Golf Club. It’s a hidden gem in Northeast Portland with fascinating surroundings, which makes sense given that the place has undergone renovations that improve its playability.
The setting is traditional, with a tree-lined course that is both playable and challenging for players of all skill levels. We’re personally blown away by the views, which include gentle, rolling fairways bordered by mature trees.
Everyone is welcome to stop by the beautiful brick clubhouse after a round of 9 or 18 holes to connect with the club’s rich history. Indeed, it’s listed on the National Register of Historic Places, so there’s a lot to learn about it, which is quite fascinating.
On the other hand, despite the fact that it is a fantastic golf course, we’ve heard some negative feedback about how poorly it’s maintained. There have been reports of wildlife such as squirrels chewing and scratching through golf bags.
That being said, we believe it poses a health risk and danger to golfers, which is a major turnoff. It’s a good thing that these kinds of incidents are addressed quickly, but we still consider it to be their core weakness as of writing.
On the plus side, the course has a pro shop that sells a wide range of golf equipment and accessories. Although, according to past customers, it sometimes closes early, which they find disappointing, as do we.

Pros
- Par 3, 9-hole golf course with a large driving range
- accommodate golfers of all skill levels
- Online booking of tee time
- Great place to host golf outings
- Large event space for any type of occasion.
- Reasonably priced
Cons
- Minor complaints about online booking
In our opinion, Colwood Golf Center, with its par 3, 9-hole golf course and a large driving range, is one of the best golf courses in Portland. It’s uniquely designed and has been open for play since 2015.
The course is simple to play, with each hole featuring two sets of tees and large, undulating greens. Plus, it can accommodate golfers of all skill levels and provide a fun golf experience.
The fact that you can book a tee time with them online (through their website) is what we believe distinguishes them, or at least makes them very convenient for some. It’s especially useful for those who have traveled long distances, so this receives a plus in our book.
Colwood Golf Center is a great place to host golf outings or championships as well. In fact, it is what they are known for in their community.
They have a sizable clubhouse with a large event space for any type of occasion. Other golf courses can be difficult to book for this, that’s why it’s a definite plus for us.
As said, they have a helpful website that allows online booking of any events for your convenience – with no booking fee or charges!
However, as past clients reported, there have been instances of minor complaints about the said booking. That’s we don’t really find this genuine in terms of convenience, although it runs smoothly on most days.
Finally, we’ve heard the place doesn’t have a very high accommodation cost, which simply explains why they are crowded at all times. You can play golf on this course for $10 to $17 only.

Pros
- Welcomes golf players of all levels
- Fast pace of play
- Layout is also designed for difficult playing
- Other amenities available
- Well-kept fairways
Cons
- Issues with customer service
- Inconsistencies in pricing
If you’re looking for a play that keeps you on your toes, then head over to the Claremont Golf Club. The layout of their course caters to all skill levels and gives off a fast pace of play – pretty nice for amateurs and professionals alike.
Since the play is faster, golfers don’t necessarily have to be there all day. However, there is some good news for those who can’t get enough – a special price on a par-72 round, which also requires your best game.
Those who find that fascinating are dedicated players, and it’s a good thing their course layout was designed for that. This includes risk-reward doglegs as well as lakes and ponds on several holes – all of which are made to keep play more exciting.
Aside from the golf course, there are other amenities available such as a putting green for players to use before and after their rounds at the club. They also sell snacks and beverages to players and visitors, including beer and wine.
When it comes to views, their location in the wooded Bethany neighborhood of northwest Portland gives them an advantage. This made it a popular destination due to its greens and fast pace of play, not to mention the well-kept fairways.
Unfortunately, we’ve heard complaints of disrespect from their staff as well as inconsistencies in their pricing. We take issues like this very seriously, which is why we recommend this golf course with a small fair warning to all.

Pros
- Two full 18-hole courses available
- Courses both cater to advanced and newbies players
- Walkable landscape for footgolf
- Breathtaking green views
- Golf lessons available
- Reasonably priced
Cons
- Landscape is a bit on the hilly side
- Difficult to book/reserve a tee-time
Glendoveer in northeast Portland is a golfer’s paradise, especially for advanced players. It has two full 18-hole courses, one of which is a challenging course located on the course’s east side.
The east course is longer and features tight, tree-lined fairways and water hazards on three holes, making it more of a challenge. If you want it a little easier, they have that for you over the west-course area.
Because the latter isn’t particularly difficult, we recommend it for new golf enthusiasts. They can practice their skills more there since there are more open fairways and fewer bunkers.
By the way, both courses have four sets of tees, so either way, you can vary skill sets.
When it comes to the terrain, we find it kind of tricky as it is a bit on the hilly side, making it harder to putt. But for a bit of good news, if you prefer to play the course on foot, the landscape is easy to walk to.
Unfortunately, reviews indicate that booking a tee time at Glendoveer can be difficult. A few clients were surprised on the day of their play that it was not booked, while others encountered a long waiting list to reserve.
While this is concerning, we believe their long waiting list is also a good indicator of the quality of their golf course and anything else in between. However, their inconsistencies in booking confirmation don’t sit well with us, for now, at least.
