Think you know Portland pizza? Not so fast! We know you know a lot of famous spots already, but listen – one Google search isn’t going to give you the real deal.
Thankfully, we already did the legwork. From SE to NW, we chatted up with locals, eavesdropped in the lines, and slid into online pizza forums like our lives depend on it.
And yes, after way too many slices (purely for research, of course!), we finally have the best pizza places in Portland that will ruin chain pizzas for you forever.

When it comes to unique offerings, we find Curry Pizza House to be pretty unbeatable. Their Indian-fusion approach won us over, with tandoori wings, curry-based sauces, and inventive toppings like butter chicken or tikka masala.
We liked that their pizzas consistently feature a well-baked crust with a golden edge – sturdy enough to hold generous toppings without going soggy. The cheese was great too, as it blends smoothly without overpowering the curry sauce.
We also loved that the menu caters to both meat lovers and vegetarians – offerings include paneer, bell peppers, and customizable options like half-and-half pies. Service is fast too, with staff moving fast even during peak hours.
It’s also worth noting that the place can accommodate large numbers for big events. This makes them a great choice for gatherings – in fact, a previous client praised the shop for delivering on time for over 100 guests.
Just take note – parking is always a common issue here, and we saw why during our visits. The space is limited, and there are primarily paid options nearby. It may be best to use public transport instead, or use a car-hailing app with your company.

Crunchy crust all around
“Ordered delivery via Grubhub. I loved that you can get half and half pizzas. I think the pizza itself was pretty good with plenty of toppings. Crust was crunchy and not an airy Neapolitan style (not a bad thing because there are many types of pizza). There was a little too much paneer for me, but I still really enjoyed it. I didn’t love the curry wings. The flavor was great but they were chewy. Overall, I would order again! I really enjoyed the flavors and options.”

2. Apizza Scholls

Apizza Scholls has everything we wanted in good pizza. During our visit, the pizzas arrived quickly (we tried the half-and-half pie, featuring Apizza Margherita and a classic plain cheese – the other was the New York White).
The common positive about these orders is that the crust is crisp on the bottom. It’s lightly charred on the edges, with sauces and cheese that are chewy towards the center. Fortunately, the cheese-to-sauce ratio was just right.
We also loved how generous they are with toppings. Their Bacon Bianca, in particular, had a nice spread of bacon bits – surprisingly not as salty as expected. Plus, we find it the perfect main option next to an order of Caesar salad.
The atmosphere is intimate and welcoming, if a bit tight during peak hours. We’re impressed by how well they handled high volumes, even remaking one of our pizza orders that was prepared by mistake.
That said, we did notice that the taste and quality aren’t the most consistent. On our second visit, the crust was dry and burnt in one of the pizzas – on our third, it’s back to that perfect texture.
A little improvement here would be appreciated.
Awesome service and great food
“Arrived fifteen minutes before they opened. There was already a line, but we secured ourselves a spot for the first “wave” of customers to roll in. At 5:00, they started letting people in, and we were seated quickly. Water was already set at the table, along with cups and utensils. We ordered a Caesar salad, a New York White, and a half plain pie and half Apizza Margherita. The food was delicious. Salad was crisp with perfect croutons. Both pizzas were ordered were great, the New York White and the half and half. Service was awesome, too.”

Perfectly balanced pizza
“Amazing food. Just a really light, incredibly crispy crust with a perfect amount of toppings. Not greasy, just perfectly balanced toppings. Everything from the Caesar salad to the margherita and Paulie Gee was amazing. We did exercise some restraint. Photos are of the pizzas with the undercarriage—as they say they are well done. Loved every bit of it. And for about-of-towner with roots in California, the It’s-It’s were a total treat.”

Tucked away in Portland’s Slabtown, this stylish spot offers New York-style pizza with a sourdough twist. Their naturally leavened dough is a star, which, thanks to the whole grain blend, creates this airy, chewy, and deeply flavorful crust.
According to our search, their Wildwood pizza is one of the crowd favorites, along with Hot Tony and Kevin pepperoni. The best part is that diners can enjoy each specialty pizza by the slice, which is a pretty convenient and less costly option.
Pizza Thief also won us over with its attention to dietary restrictions. Their gluten-free crust is delicious, maintaining a fluffy and flavorful texture. Plus, vegetarians are well-served too, with a clearly marked section for options on the menu.
Service was fast and friendly, so we really have no complaints. On top of that, the prices are reasonable too – diners can expect to spend $30 to $50 for a full meal with drinks. Portions are generous, so you get full easily.
Unfortunately, we did notice that certain pies are quite greasy, which overpowers the taste and texture. Parking is tricky too, especially during peak hours, so coming early is strongly advised for groups.

East Glisan Pizza Lounge is the perfect place to go for fans of Detroit-style deep dish. Their signature square pies are the best – the crust has that perfect golden glaze, with an insanely cheesy sauce without being greasy.
We like the variety of crust styles they have. Apart from Detroit, they also have New York thin and a newer tavern-style for variety seekers. In general, diners can expect generous sauces and toppings that pair easily with other offerings.
Speaking of which, we loved their vegan kale salad as a side, though the Parmesan breadsticks were also good. Completing the experience is the good draft beer selection, though we wished they had more cocktail options to feature.
Beyond food, we liked that the place has this community-driven vibe. They host trivia nights, offer late-night slices, and rotate specials like Sunday-only lasagna and seasonal desserts. There’s always something new to see.
Unfortunately, we did find an area we’re not so happy about – the Detroit pies were actually smaller than expected for the price. Some diners felt that $26 for four slices was steep. It may be best to bring friends too, so you can split the bill.

“This place is known for their Detroit style pizza, but they do have other options. I ended up getting the tavern style, which was a new style for them. It was a little too thing and crispy, but the toppings were good. I definitely want to come back for the Detroit style and give that a go. I did try the Parmesan bread sticks, those were really good. I think they deep fry them. The staff was super friendly and helpful, overall great experience.”

Delicious food selection

Tucked in a quiet Southeast neighborhood, Ken’s Artisan Pizza is one of the most sought-after pizza spots in the city. Expect a line – there are no reservations – and a 30 to 60-minute wait is typical, but the payoff is worth it.
Their flavors are really good. The Neapolitan-inspired pizzas deliver a thin crust that’s crispy at the edges and beautifully charred. We also liked the Mortadella and Pistachio option as it’s creamy, with sauces that lean towards the light and fresher side.
We find the place great for casual dining in general, as there’s a solid selection of small plates. Patrons often mention the grilled zucchini as the best appetizer – meanwhile, the Caesar salad is often the best pick for a light side dish.
When it comes to service, our team noticed how thoughtful their staff were, even during peak hours. They were consistently kind and patient, accommodating requests and bringing orders out with no mistakes.
The only downside is that the wait times are pretty unpredictable. While manageable for small groups, big parties are advised to arrive 45 to 60 minutes before the offering. Although there are more times when them being on time with orders than delayed.
Worth the wait
“First time here, had to put our name on the list and waited about 1.5hrs to get in. Fortunately the area had several bars/patios to go to so we went and had a drink while we waited. Once we got a seat though the food was worth the wait. The salads and pizzas were delicious. Simple ingredients….big on flavour. Definitely worth coming to and worth the wait.”

Excellent pizza and great ambience
“If you enjoy a good pizza, would highly recommend coming here. Excellent pizza, great ambience and good drink/wine selection. Our group of 3 waited for about 15 mins around 8pm but waiting could be an issue. However the staff were nice and accommodating.”
