The 6 Best Speech Therapists in Portland Who Can Actually Help You Make Progress
A few years ago, a friend of mine sat in a small clinic, watching their child grow increasingly frustrated as the speech therapist rushed through flashcards.
After six months, the /s/ sound was still a struggle, and both parent and child felt discouraged. The therapist didn’t explain her approach, and my friend’s questions and concerns were mostly ignored.
Experiences like this are what pushed us to look for Portland speech therapists who actually help kids feel confident using their voices. We researched, talked to parents and therapists, and found the best speech therapists in Portland.
Check them out here!

Parkwood Clinic makes speech therapy feel like playtime, using colorful apps and hands-on games.
One mom told us her four-year-old, who used to push back against traditional drills, started practicing on her own once the therapists brought out an interactive storybook app that gave rewards for correct sounds.
What stands out most about Parkwood is how they handle stuttering. Instead of pushing for perfect fluency, they focus on building confidence with tools that fit each person.
A parent told us their therapist taught their child “voluntary stuttering” and breathing exercises. By the sixth session, their child was able to present a project at school without skipping any slides.
Their cognitive support programs are just as hands-on. For example, one teen with ADHD struggled to follow multi-step homework until the therapists broke things down into visual checklists and used spaced retrieval.
The only downside is that their top therapists are in high demand, so new clients might have to wait 2-3 weeks for a time slot.
They are all very kind, helpful to everyone
“My son, who is 3 years old, started coming here in January 2024 & he loves coming here every week to work with Ashley. She is so patient with him & he absolutely adores her! We have seen such an improvement in his speech as she teaches him & us different ways to work with him at home. They are all very kind, helpful to everyone in the family & makes learning fun for all the kids. Thank you parkwood clinic.”

The speech therapists are so great at what they do
“My son loves coming to Parkwood (both locations). The speech therapists are so great at what they do. He’s come so far since we started our sessions here. The staff is so kind and helpful! He really looks forward to practicing his speech; and he gets upset when we miss sessions. Never a battle to get him to go to speech! Thanks Parkwood! 🫶🏼🙏🏼”

Beech & Street goes beyond basic screenings to find the real reasons behind articulation or phonological issues. This helps kids make better progress.
One parent told us that after months of generic therapy elsewhere, Beech & Street’s detailed assessment found a subtle motor speech issue. Their child started making progress within just a few weeks.
We like their hands-on and intensive approach. Their therapists send video tutorials showing tongue placements for tricky sounds, making practice much easier.
For tough cases like Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS), Beech & Street uses the Rapid Syllable Transition Training (ReST) program, which takes a multisensory approach.
One mom told us that ReST, along with visual and tactile cues, helped her son say his first clear sentence.
But because they focus so much on speech sounds, Beech & Street might not be the best fit for families looking for help with broader language or social skills. Unlike other places, they don’t assist with speaking disorders caused by autism.
All warm and communicative
“Beech Street has been so ideal for us. We have worked with a number of therapists- all warm and communicative. My daughter has made amazing progress. The best part is scheduling and location. They have been super accommodating about our families schedule. Weaving appointments into our busy lives has been a breeze. When our daughter was in preschool they even saw her at her school!”

Each therapist is so skilled
“My son has worked with multiple therapist at Beech Street and all of them are amazing. They meet my son where he is at and create an environment where he feels safe. Each therapist is so skilled and has a gentle child led way of meeting the child’s language goals. I wouldn’t bring my child anywhere else.”

Sunbreak Therapy stands out for its strong involvement with parents, particularly through the Hanen Program, called “It Takes Two to Talk.” This program teaches parents of kids ages 0-5 with language delays how to build language skills through everyday play.
One parent told us that after joining, she learned how to turn playtime into a language-rich experience. Her child also started using three-word sentences within a few months.
We also like how Sunbreak’s collaborative approach lets families help shape their own goals and strategies. One mom of a child with apraxia told us the therapist used her input to tailor each session to her child’s interests and needs.
Sunbreak also helps with a ton of speech challenges. Their child’s articulation therapy is especially popular, with many parents noting that it helped build their child’s speech clarity and confidence.
The only catch is that Sunbreak mainly focuses on early intervention, so it might not be the best fit for families with older kids.
Great speech therapist
“My kiddos love sunbreak and truly has helped my son jonathan. He has come such a long way with the support and encouragement and all the great speech therapist and they are the ones who got his tongue diagnosed ❤️”

Rose Bud Speech Therapy starts with a thorough evaluation. They cover everything from articulation and early language to orofacial myofunctional disorders (face muscle issues), so nothing gets missed.
A few parents appreciated the patience of their therapists during the evaluation as well. When their kids had trouble focusing, the therapists redirected their attention using eye-catching props and toys.
We also love that Rosebud creates weekly plans tailored to each of their clients’ goals, based on the evaluation, all within a fun and playful setting.
Parents love their fun “Parent & Me” classes. The Early Language Enrichment Playgroup (6-15 months) and the Late Talker Play Group (15-36 months) provide parents and children with an opportunity to learn and grow together.
One mom who attended the Late Talker group told us the strategies she learned not only boosted her child’s language but also brought them closer.
The only downside is that the clinic is small, so you might run into limited availability or longer wait times for appointments.
Had my son speaking more clearly
“Ms Izzy is truly the best speech therapist! My son saw her for about a year and a half and was barely understandable as a 3 1/2 year old. After much work, she had my son speaking more clearly and annunciating words SO much better. Now that he is 5 and a year and a half of working with Ms Izzy his speech has improved tremendously!
Everyone around him can now understand what he is saying and notice the difference.
Ms Izzy was very patient while working with my active son, she creatively had him working on words while playing games with him. It became a session that we looked forward to. Ms Izzy made us feel comfortable and welcome with her calm and positive demeanor. She is outstanding and can’t recommend her enough!”

Incredibly patient and kind
“We had our son at Rose Bud Speech Therapy for over a year and loved our experience with both Itzel and Casey. They were incredibly patient and kind with our son and he really enjoyed every one of his sessions. His speech improved at Rose Bud and is now graduated and continuing to make progress!”

Speaktacular Speech & Language stands out for its well-rounded support, helping kids and adults get the help they need.
We appreciate how they give practical tools and tips for at-home practice. One college student told us the homework assignments and video check-ins helped him sharpen his articulation for public speaking. He also noticed that he made progress much faster.
Speaktacular also helps with dysphagia, language recovery after brain injuries, and memory training. One stroke survivor told us the tailored exercises and steady encouragement helped them get their words back, making a real difference in their quality of life.
For children, they specialize in language support for those with Autism Spectrum Disorder. One parent we spoke to liked how patient the therapists were, working with their children in short bursts each session.
They also help kids who might not qualify for an IEP, making sure no one falls through the cracks.
The only real complaint we’ve heard is that they don’t always answer their phones. Some people said they had to call three times before getting through to schedule a consult.
She made it fun and engaging
“Jess is a fantastic speech therapist! Our son made enormous improvements working with her and has since “graduated” from speech therapy. She made it fun and engaging, even after long school days. We’ve recommended Speaktacular to friends who have also had a great experience!”

Really address the root causes of the speech difficulties
“Jess is AMAZING. The change we have seen in working with her has been night and day. My son enjoys going and I appreciate the flexibility of being able to do sessions both in person and virtually. Jess has been able to advocate and assist in us getting the help we need to really address the root causes of the speech difficulties. I can’t say enough good things about our experience. Thank you for everything.”
