  • Focus on Injury Prevention and Rehabilitation

Cons

  • Advanced Booking is Recommended

The Little Pilates Studio is a boutique fitness space with a mission to empower individuals through Pilates. Their core belief lies in the transformative power of Pilates to enhance core strength, flexibility, and mindful movement. The studio aims to foster a community of like-minded individuals who support and inspire each other on their fitness journeys.

One of the standout features of The Little Pilates Studio is its welcoming atmosphere. From the moment you step in, you are greeted warmly, which helps ease the intimidation that often comes with joining a new fitness space. This sense of community is invaluable, especially for those who are new to Pilates.

The studio offers a wide range of Pilates classes that cater to all experience levels, from beginners to advanced practitioners. This variety ensures that no matter your fitness journey, there’s a class tailored to your specific needs.

The instructors at The Little Pilates Studio are highly experienced and attentive. They guide students through every step of the Pilates journey, from teaching the basics to setting realistic goals and encouraging progress.

The studio is equipped with modern Pilates apparatus, ensuring that participants have access to the tools they need for an effective workout.

Every Wednesday at 8 AM, the studio hosts a complimentary community class focused on classical Pilates. This class is suitable for all levels, making it an excellent opportunity for beginners to try Pilates without any cost commitment.

Pilates is known for being gentle on the joints while also helping with injury prevention and recovery. The Little Pilates Studio places a strong emphasis on these benefits, making it ideal for people looking to build strength in a low-impact, rehabilitative way.

  • Offers occasional discounts and deals
  • Holds virtual classes
  • Small class sizes

Cons

  • High membership fees
  • High cancellation fee for missed classes

Cascadia Pilates & CoreAlign offers a wide range of pilates and yoga classes that can suit different levels.

Many of their clients said the classes changed their lives, from their fitness routines to their body alignment. They advanced in their practice, and the variety of classes kept them entertained.

They keep class sizes small for the instructor to give their full attention to each of their students. This allows each class to have a relaxed atmosphere with

the instructor ready to adjust your alignment and keep you safe from injury.

Additionally, they offer private classes that can be adjusted based on your needs. This is important if you have special needs such as an injury, you’re a senior citizen, or you’re currently pregnant.

If you’re still unsure whether you want to start a Pilates practice, they offer rates for single classes. But should you plan to take a membership, their monthly membership fees are a bit pricey.

Unless you have a disciplined practice on a set schedule, we suggest that you get the class packages instead. Your unused credits in a monthly membership will expire at the end of the month, whereas class packages don’t.

Given the small class sizes, they’re strict with the attendance for each class. You’ll be deducted one class credit even if you cancel within the eight-hour period, and for some classes, you’ll be charged an $18 cancellation fee.

Overall, they’re a studio that wants to instill good habits and disciplined practice whether you’re a beginner or already advanced. But one last suggestion: ask for their current deals and offers to get the best value for money.

Pros

  • Has introductory packages for beginners
  • Complete equipment
  • Has online client portal
  • Good record of client loyalty
  • Attentive and energetic teachers

Cons

  • Expensive rates for non-members
  • Studio not as roomy

What initially brought our attention to reFORM Pilates & Movement was the good record of client loyalty, with some having been clients for more than a decade! It didn’t take us long to realize why.

First, they greet every person that comes through their door with enthusiasm. They’re encouraging and non-judgmental to those who are interested in trying their classes, regardless of background.

Clients also appreciated how they felt no sense of competition in their classes. Everyone in the studio—from the instructor to your classmates—is encouraging and friendly.

We also kept hearing about how the classes have improved the fitness of their regular clients. This is possible because of the competent instructors, who are all well-trained to assist you.

Their studio has the complete equipment needed for every class, but it isn’t as large as others on this list. There’s enough space for everyone in a class, but you might want to give them a personal visit first if you prefer large open spaces.

Another thing we like is the rates for their introductory packages and monthly memberships. Members are able to access all services with discounts for special workshops.

However, non-members pay considerably more for single sessions or packages. If this makes you tempted to become a member right away, do know that their initial membership contract is for three months.

So if you’re a beginner still trying to figure out what works for you, then we suggest that you take single sessions or packages before you sign on to a membership contract.

Pros

  • Highly individualized classes
  • Low-impact yet intense full-body workouts
  • Inclusive studio
  • Variety of membership packages available
  • No expiration dates on packages

Cons

  • No schedules on Sundays

Rose City Fitness is a woman-owned boutique studio, and one of the best in the area.

What we like the most about them is their highly individualized classes with only 5 people in each class. This way, each person gets all that they need from a class.

We love how they mix reformer pilates, TRX, and functional strength training to get a low-impact yet intense full-body workout.

Here, you can learn all about the importance of breath, proprioception, form, functional movement, foam rolling, and slow and fast twitch muscle fibers. These are things we hardly learn much about so we think it’s great to know more about these for a better workout.

Everyone can find this place to be a safe space. They don’t tolerate racism, homophobia, transphobia, or discriminatory behavior.

They have different membership packages, and we think it’s amazing that they have no expiration dates!

Class schedules and starting rates are conveniently available on their website.

  • Competitive rates
  • Attentive and interactive instructors
  • Has a monthly unlimited package

Cons

  • Classes get full quickly
  • High cancellation fee for missed classes

Studio Blue has been chosen as the best pilates studio in Portland by several publications, and we weren’t surprised at all.

They prioritize the well-being of everyone who enters their doors. For example, before you can join group equipment classes, you must have a private session to acquaint yourself with the machine—at a discount, which is quite a relief!

Additionally, they’ve shown great care to clients who have special needs and can adjust classes or sequences accordingly. The instructors are always careful that you’re in the proper alignment that suits your body’s strength and capabilities.

They’re a great choice if you’re still undecided on which class would work for you because they offer a free trial week for beginners. Not only that, they have affordable rates for packages and single classes.

Most clients take advantage of this, and the majority of them have continued to take classes with Studio Blue. The studio also offers all-level classes that are open for anyone to join, and we’ve heard great feedback from beginners and experts alike!

With this level of popularity, classes get full quickly, so you need to sign up in advance. Otherwise, you’d be put on a waitlist.

On busier days, parking can get full too, so we suggest that you arrive early.

Another concern we have to bring up is their cancellation fee. While they have a generous 24-hour cancellation window, they charge $35 for a missed reserved class and $10–$20 for missed mat and equipment classes, respectively.

However, we’ve hardly heard any complaints about their cancellation fees. Clients understand how Studio Blue’s classes are in high demand, and it’s a price they’re willing to pay for the quality of classes they get.

Pros

  • Wide variety of classes
  • Good record of customer loyalty
  • Small class sizes
  • Competitive rates
  • Classes accessible to different levels and ages

Cons

  • Classes get full quickly
  • No monthly memberships

Despite Begin Pilates only opening their doors to their Portland studio in 2016, they’ve already built a good reputation for the accessibility of their classes.

They have classes for all kinds of levels and different types of needs. For example, they’ve got classes for people with limited flexibility, and those who attended these classes found themselves eager to continue their fitness regimen.

The studio has a warm and welcoming vibe to it, and if you’re the type who feels conscious about being a beginner, then you won’t feel that here. The instructors are attentive and respect the limitations of your body and fitness level.

Clients have also commended how competent the instructors are, especially for private classes. Many come to Begin Pilates with different concerns, like injuries, pain, or fresh from giving birth, to be met with a keen and helpful instructor.

Another thing we like about them is their rates. The rates for single classes, packages, and even private sessions are probably among the most competitive on this list.

However, they don’t offer monthly memberships with unlimited classes. The most they have is a 10-class package, so that’s something you want to consider if you’ll be attending multiple classes a week.

Additionally, they offer classes all days of the week, including their virtual ones. However, their classes do get full quickly, and it isn’t rare for some classes to be full for a whole week!

Class sign-ups refresh every week, and if you signed up late, you’ll end up on the waitlist. But if you’re in dire need of a class, we suggest you attend their livestream classes, which don’t have an attendance limit.

Pros

  • Has multiple franchises nationwide
  • Offers unlimited membership valid nationwide
  • Has classes for teens
  • First class free for beginners
  • Complete equipment

Cons

  • Only offers Pilates classes
  • Studio is a bit cramped

Club Pilates is the only studio on this list with multiple franchises around the country. This makes them the best pick for those who are constantly traveling.

They’re the only one on this list who offers a passport membership valid in any studio nationwide. So if you’re someone who’ll just be in one area, they’ve got monthly and annual memberships along with class packages.

If you’ve yet to try Pilates, you can avail a free first session with them. The first session runs for 30 minutes and is meant to assess your fitness level and acquaint you with the basics of Pilates.

Club Pilates offers nine different class types that suit different levels and age groups. They also have their own ranking for levels, ranging from 1 to 2.5.

These levels are called Foundation, Progression, Evolution, and Mastery.

Additionally, the instructors do a good job of assessing that you’re well-versed in your current level before you move along to the next.

While they have a wide range of classes for Pilates, you won’t be able to find classes for other practices such as yoga or barre. So if you’re someone who wants different kinds of practices from your studio, they might not be for you.

Among the studios on this list, they’re the ones that have the least open space. For one, there’s no separate space for mat classes, and the mats are placed right beside their machines.

While we haven’t heard complaints regarding their studio space, we still suggest that you take a first free session with them. This way, you’ll be able to assess if the space allocated for each person will be spacious enough for you.

Pros

  • Rates are easily seen on their website
  • Has 10 practitioners
  • Extensive range of services

Cons

  • Closed during Thursdays and weekends

With Body Mechanics Pilates & Bodywork, you can enjoy your pilates class alone, with a friend, or with a group of three people. If you are only a beginner, we recommend to avail their private session so that the practitioner will solely focus on you.

What’s great about choosing them is that if you do not prefer attending physical classes, you can choose to subscribe to their virtual classroom for only $18 monthly.

Pilates classes are not their only services. They also offer massages and Anatomy Trains Structural Integration.

Another reason why we prefer them is that they are fully equipped with everything you need for great work out. Additionally, their space also feels like a healing sanctuary that is filled with beautiful art and uplifting energy!

Apart from these, we love how their practitioners respect injures and limitations of their client if there are any. They do not say that they have to push through and conquer them like other trainers do.

Do take note that they are closed during Thursdays and weekends so make sure to double check your schedule before availing any of their classes.

Cons

We think Lemon Tree Wellness is undoubtedly one of the best wellness places in the area.

This place is a health and wellness collective offering a variety of services. Their services include Pilates, Acupuncture, Bodywork, Energy Healing, Wellness Coaching, and Wellness Workshops.

Overall wellness should be for everyone so we love that they’re body-positive, inclusive, and welcoming of all shapes, sizes, orientations, and colors.

We find that they’re great for those who want to elevate their energy, renew their wellbeing, and align their daily life.

We really like their pilates classes and how it’s private with only a small group so the instructors can really focus on each student.

Plus, they offer classes from Monday to Friday along the schedule of each class. We think it’s great that they’re accommodating as well because you can request a class time if you can’t find one that you like.

Their classes are ideal for virtually anyone, but especially for those recovering from illness, surgery, or pregnancy and childbirth, who want to have a greater sense of freedom and spaciousness in their movement, and who want to improve their confidence, energy level and mental health.

They have session packages for both in studio and online classes with their prices as well.

We highly recommend them because their instructors are excellent and experts in their craft!

Cons

Studio 400 & Santosha Pilates, LLC is a movement therapy studio that offers personalized Pilates and yoga techniques to help individuals alleviate pain and achieve ideal posture.

We like how they give extra focus in creating highly personalized sessions for each individual client. They offer private 1:1 sessions, homework videos via an on-demand subscription library, and movement classes utilizing Pilates and other similar techniques.

What’s great about this is that a personalized approach allows clients to receive specific attention and care to help them achieve their goals.

Aside from this, we like them because the instructor at Studio 400 & Santosha Pilates, LLC has over ten years of experience in teaching and has discovered a combination of methods that work to create healing.

Unlike others, they use a combination of Pilates, yoga, and fascia hydration techniques to help individuals.

While the studio offers highly personalized sessions, they specialize in Pilates and yoga techniques. Individuals who are seeking a wider variety of movement therapy methods may need to look elsewhere.
