The Top 5 Steak Restaurants in Portland

The Top 5 Steak Restaurants in Portland

Environment - A suitable environment for us means that the restaurant should be clean and the atmosphere should be relaxing and soothing.

Quality of the steak - It’s obvious to consider the quality of the steak. After all, if you’re paying a lot for it, it should be within your expectations. A high-quality steak has different definitions but it should at least be healthy-looking meat with good marbling.

Customer service -  How good one’s customer service is can play a big role in how pleased a customer will be. This is why we considered the staff’s attitude, professionalism, and knowledge of steaks.

Value for money - Good steak is expensive, but it shouldn’t be over the top just to taste great. This is why we considered the cost while also thinking about what you’re paying.

Pros

  • Generous servings
  • Fast serving time
  • Dim-lit and cozy

Cons

  • Some complaints about overdone meat

One of the reasons we added RingSide Steakhouse to our list of top steak restaurants in Portland is that they have such generous servings.

As we were interviewing their previous customers, a lot of them mentioned this. It made them feel like they got their money’s worth.

That’s because they do more than deliver on quantity: they also deliver on quality. A lot of the people we talked to said that the food here lived up to their expectations.

We agree because when we ate here, we got only delicious food done right. It really showed us why there were so many good reviews from their patrons.

However, we should note that some of the clients we interviewed still had complaints. Some complained about overdone meat, for example, often for well-done orders.

Interestingly, we didn’t hear similar remarks from those who ordered rare or medium-rare, so this may be more of a consideration if you’re the type who opts for well-done in your steak temperatures.

Moving forward, if you appreciate a nice fine-dining restaurant with dim-lit lighting, you’d most likely love the ambiance in this place. It’s perfect for intimate conversations or special occasions.

Speaking of special occasions, a lot of the customers we talked to said that they went here to celebrate an anniversary, a birthday, etc. Also, since a lot of them were pleased with their first experience here, it even became a tradition in their family to go every year.

That says a lot about how happy we are with their experience here, we think. You don’t make a standing date with loved ones at a place you dislike.

It’s easy to see why people would come here regularly: aside from the food and atmosphere being good, service here is speedy. We were attended to as soon as we opened the door, with people taking our coats and seating us politely.

Additionally, we didn’t have to wait for food long, so the overall experience was fast, pleasant, and filling.

Pros

  • Great customer response
  • Friendly with those with dietary restrictions
  • Attentive staff
  • Easy booking process

Cons

  • Complaints about late orders

As we were dining at Urban Farmer Portland, one of the first things that impressed us was how attentive the staff was.

There were times when we didn’t need to call them to have our water refilled. Instead, they were already there with a refill before we even noticed that we were out of water.

They were also quick to answer when we called them for any concerns we might have even if there were a lot of people around.

We noticed on their menu that there are a lot of vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free options, by the way. So, if you have dietary restrictions, this steak restaurant can cater to your needs.

And as a side-note, the booking process here was easy. You can do it on the website as you choose what time and date work for you.

In fact, we didn’t need to reserve weeks or months ahead to get a table unlike some restaurants, so we were also pleased with that. They were quick to confirm our reservation – and quick to respond to inquiries, overall, even on the phone.

When we were interviewing their previous customers, we found that this is the norm for them. They seem to answer customer concerns and questions professionally and quickly.

Having tried the food ourselves, we can see what the hype is about. Even when we tried the simplest things off the menu like Buttermilk Pancakes, we immediately saw the allure of dining here.

The pancakes had just the right amount of sweetness, so even people who don’t have a sweet tooth would enjoy them. This is from their breakfast menu, by the way.

Of course, to get the most out of our experience, we had to try dishes from the dinner menu as well. One of the things the waiter recommended was the bacon-wrapped pork tenderloin.

Being a fan of both bacon and tenderloin, we thought “Why not” and proceeded to order it and taste it ourselves. When they already served it to us, we were surprised by the size of the serving (huge!).

What about the taste? At first, we thought that the flavor of either the bacon or the tenderloin would be dominant but the taste seemed to complement each other.

The tenderloin was so juicy and the difference of its texture from the bacon added to the experience.

Pros

  • Knowledgeable staff
  • Generous portions
  • Great value for money

Cons

  • The service quality can be inconsistent

A lot of the customers of Ruth’s Chris Steak House told us they love how knowledgeable their staff is. Other than knowing every item on the menu, the waiters also knew the answers to questions about specific dishes.

From describing what the dish is to telling where the meat came from, they showed their expertise in handling these inquiries. That’s very helpful, especially for those who have food allergies or restrictions.

As for the food, a lot of the customers we talked to were also pleased about it. It was mostly because the portions were generous.

When we tried it out ourselves, we could say that the taste was also up to par. The ribeye, in particular, captured our hearts with how juicy and marbled the meat was.

And in case you’re wondering, it was cooked to perfection.

When it comes to the atmosphere, though… Well, let’s say it can get quite busy. It might not be as relaxing as the other places, but it’s still a nice option for conversations and celebrations.

We’re not sure if this is an advantage or a disadvantage. It might depend on the person and what vibe you’re going for.

If you’re looking for something more intimate, we believe there are better options.

A lot of customers agreed with us that this place offers great value for money. However, the service doesn’t seem to be consistent.

Some reported that the waiters were rude and not attentive, for example. This is not something you should experience at all, especially in an expensive restaurant, so this is an important aspect to consider before booking a table here.

Pros

  • Beautiful plating
  • Great side dishes
  • Also has a cigar lounge

Cons

  • Slow service

One of the things that impressed us the most when we dined at El Gaucho was the beautiful plating. A lot of the customers seem to agree because we also heard the same feedback from numerous people.

The plating adds to the experience because it made it not just about eating, but also about the craftsmanship of good food. It adds another layer to the experience, in our opinion.

Anyway, a lot of the customers we talked to love the side dishes as well. We agree with this because there was a lot of variety in terms of flavor, but it always complemented the main dish, which is exactly how it should be.

As for the steak (which we ourselves liked), a lot of people raved about it, of course. Out of the people we talked to, no one had any complaints about the flavor, quality, or doneness of the steak.

The atmosphere was great too. There was even live music when we dined, which we thought was a nice addition.

Speaking of nice additions, this steak restaurant also has a cigar lounge. We added this to our list of pros because a lot of customers we talked to seemed to have enjoyed it.

Their cigar menu is also already available on their website as well as their wine, dessert, cocktails, dinner, and to-go menu.

Now, while there are a lot of things to love about this steak restaurant, there were a few people who complained that the service was slow during their visits. They were seated immediately, but it took a while for someone to ask for their orders.

Additionally, there were also a few who said that their orders arrived longer than they should have. Sometimes, the other table who arrived later than them got their orders first.

We had the good fortune not to experience either issue during our own night at the restaurant, but one trip isn’t exactly representative, so keep that in mind.

Pros

  • Quick and attentive servers
  • Generous portions

Cons

  • Complaints about the service
  • Not enough parking spots

One of the things that customers first mention when asked about Sayler’s Old Country Kitchen: the servers here are quick and attentive.

The place is known for having staff who take their orders as soon as possible and addressing customers’ concerns promptly.

We had the same experience when we went to the restaurant. Even though it was busy during our visit, the servers seemed to juggle different tables quite well.

We don’t know how they did it, but it was one of the reasons our visit was pleasant.

As for our orders, we found that the portions were good but not overdone. There was just enough food on each plate for us to feel full and nothing more.

If you’re the type who wants stuff to take home, this may not be to your liking. In our case, we preferred it over having a lot of leftovers to take with us.

As for the taste, it seems to be a mixed bag.

Even in our own dining party, opinions were mixed. Some of us thought the steak could use more seasoning whereas others thought it fine as it was.

On the other hand, we nearly all enjoyed the other dishes we ordered so we still had a pleasant dining experience.

There were still some flies in the ointment, so to speak. For example, there were some people we talked to who complained about the service at the restaurant.

They said some waiters would talk about customers in front of others or they would hang up on a call with a customer. There weren’t a lot of people who mentioned things like these, fortunately, but it is still something to be considered.

Another thing we think is worth noting is that there aren’t a lot of parking spots. If you happen to arrive during a busy time, there will likely be no more spots left.
