One of Better Basements and Waterproofing’s advantages is that they actually work on Saturdays. A lot of contractors stick to weekday schedules, so this is a real convenience. Clients don’t have to burn a day off just ot be home while the crew’s there.
Many of the clients we spoke to also appreciate how communicative the team is. They explain in detail the things they’ll do and the reasons behind doing them, which is reassuring.

We were very impressed with Ability Plus Drainage Company’s over three decades of experience. They’ve built a reputation that’s hard to ignore, and their services are backed by hundreds of locals they’ve helped fix drainage and waterproofing issues.
What’s even better is that the company is a family-owned business. Businesses like this excel in building strong relationships with their clients, which is evident in the fact that Ability Plus has a very loyal customer base.
We love that they offer crawlspace exterior waterproofing. It’s not a service most contractors offer since it involves digging and takes a lot of work, but it’s very important in Portland’s rainy climate.
And it’s not like they just offer it for the sake of offering it. They actually do a great job at it. Some clients reported better air quality and no moisture leakage after the team waterproofed their crawl spaces.
We also love that they offer foundation waterproofing. They repair and seal all the cracks on a house’s foundation and install skirt drains to collect and divert water.
We’re just disappointed that they offer free estimates. For homeowners sticking to a budget, this can make it hard to grasp if the service is right for them.

“Ten years ago Ability Plus installed two sump pumps and did major work to keep our (and as a bonus our neighbor’s basement) free from the deluge that flooded our basement and threatened our new basement renovation, I was told sump pumps had a ten years lifespan so now ten years later I contacted Ability Plus proactively for replacement pumps so as to avoid water issues. Konnor came by to look at them- the old ones were still doing their job- but time for replacement. They came by a week or so later and two new pumps were installed; cleanly, efficiently, and promptly. I recommend Ability Plus without reservations!”

We found TerraFirma to be a one-stop shop for basement problems in Portland. They can install drainage channel systems, vapor barriers, and sump pumps. This means you don’t need to juggle multiple contractors if your basement has more than one issue.
What’s great is that they offer a transferable, lifetime warranty for drainage system installations. Having this kind of warranty in a city where heavy rains are a yearly worry is a huge relief, if we’re being honest.
Many of their past clients we spoke to also praised the team for cleaning up after the installation. They said that the team cleaned every nook and cranny of the basement, making sure they removed all the debris.
What we love most, though, is the emergency service they offer to their existing clients. Once you have had at least one transaction with them, you can call them even outside business hours to fix any issues related to the work they’ve done.
The one knock some locals mention is coordination. One client said that the supervisor failed to brief the crew beforehand about the project, which caused some delays.

Masonry Waterproofing and Drainage Master’s responsive contact centre is a huge plus for us. They responded to our emails promptly, allowing us to gather many details before even talking to their clients.
We also liked their level of specialization. They spent almost two decades focusing entirely on basement waterproofing in Portland, and that kind of experience shows in their service.
They can do both exterior and interior basement waterproofing. Only contractors who specialize in basement waterproofing and have extensive experience offer exterior waterproofing, as it requires specific expertise.
Many of their past clients also told us that the team is pretty quick in issuing an estimate. After the on-site inspection, they can provide a fully detailed assessment in just 30 minutes.
The only drawback is that they’re unavailable on weekends. Not a bad con if you ask us, as most contractors naturally work on weekdays.

“The folks at Masonry & Waterproofing did an excellent job firming up the crawl space at our cabin. They not only added new beams, posts and pier blocks but mucked out all the debris that had been left behind over the decades and added a plastic moisture barrier. When it became apparent some more support was needed they took care of it without additional charges. They also took care of an aging chimney and added flashing and crowning to control water seepage. We also liked that they go beyond crawlspaces and work on basements too. They can install, repair, and maintain your basement’s sump pumps. With this, they can prevent mold and mildew from growing in your basement.
We also love that they offer flexible maintenance plans. There are options from one year to five years. During the plan’s duration, clients enjoy discounts on the team’s services and backup units, including dehumidifiers.
We also appreciate that they provide financing options to clients. They partnered with GreenSky, allowing people on a budget to afford their services. What’s great is that there’ll be no interest if you pay in full within six months.
On the flip side, we didn’t like that some team members smoked cigarettes before working. This feels disrespectful, especially since they’re entering someone else’s home. Some clients even reported feeling uncomfortable.

“Dr. Crawlspace did an absolutely outstanding crawlspace encapsulation job at our home, and they also replaced our broken sump pump and installed a sump pump alarm system, dehumidifier, and a radon system. In advance, they carefully explained all the material that they were going to use and exactly why they chose that particular type of material. They convinced me that their encapsulation is very strong compared to other ones from other companies that boast about thickness being the key. “Extremely glad we utilized them! They cleaned out our very tiny, narrow crawl space (I don’t know how they got in there) and opened up our vents, plus replaced rotten posts under the house. The most important thing is they pointed out where our HVAC system was pouring water into the space which needed to be fixed ASAP (like by the sellers 20 years ago).
