Pros

  • Competitive bids
  • Quick scheduling
  • On time to projects
  • Good quality work
  • Efficient crew

Cons

  • Some complaints of billing not being transparent

With over 30 years in the paving industry, William Stanley & Sons has built a reputation for reliability and good quality work. Whether you need commercial or residential paving, they’ve got you covered.

Their years in the industry have allowed them to master the required skills, and we’ve heard a lot of good feedback about their work! Clients we’ve spoken to commended their work’s precision, from paving to striping.

If your project is in a residential area, you’ll be pleased to know that William Stanley & Sons are considerate to the residents in the area. They’ll be sure not to cause any inconveniences and will get the work done as quickly as possible.

They’ve also got a good record when it comes to reliability. They arrive on time to prepare their equipment and start working, finish projects on schedule, and clean up after they leave.

We were happy to find out that they’re quick to schedule projects and also accommodate their clients’ schedules and requests. Additionally, should an issue come up during the project or if there are sudden changes, they’re quick to address it.

Customers also admired their competitive bids, but some complained that the bidding process was not transparent. They claimed that there were additional fees when it came to contract signing.

That was the only complaint we heard. So if you’re set on giving them a call, be sure to double-check the breakdown of fees before you come to any agreement.

Pros

  • Quick to give cost estimates
  • Fair pricing
  • Transparent billing
  • Good-quality work
  • Attentive to client’s vision
  • Great customer service

Cons

  • Big equipment might not fit in narrow and steep places

Because of their excellent customer service, Alamo Paving left a good mark on the clients they’ve worked with. They’ve done a lot of work in residential areas and are familiar with the needs of private residents.

Their genuine care for their clients convinced us to put Alamo Paving on this list. Those we’ve spoken to said they appreciate Alamo Paving’s effort in listening to them as they described the vision they have for their property.

They’re also not afraid to advise you on the best way to meet your vision with respect to your budget. If you’ve got questions or don’t know how to go about a particular issue, they’ll be happy to address them.

Their work demeanor is impressive, too. They’re quick to send cost estimates and bids, and their estimating team gives a thorough and complete quote to save you from worrying about hidden costs or fees.

You’ll be able to relax once work is done on your property because they keep their clients updated on the project, even if you’re not in the area.

Some of their former clients even said they hired Alamo Paving to work on their property while they were in another state!

It’s this kind of trust clients have in Alamo Paving that assures us they’ll give you the best possible outcome while keeping your best interest in mind.

But do be warned: if the roads leading to your property are narrow or steep, their large equipment might not make it through! Therefore, we suggest you call them to confirm that your property is suitable for the project.

Pros

  • Helpful crew and office staff
  • Good-quality work
  • Highly responsive
  • Quick to give cost estimates
  • Can work weekends
  • Wide range of services

Cons

  • Minor complaints of their drivers cutting traffic
  • Some instances of incomplete cleanup after projects

Pavement Maintenance Inc.’s wide range of services first caught our eye, but we were impressed with other things too! We found them to be the most accommodating among all those on this list.

If your project is on a tight deadline and you need everything to be done quickly, they’ll probably be your best bet. They’re able to work weekends and can adjust if there are any sudden schedule changes.

They take commercial and residential projects and show the same quality of work in both. Additionally, they’re considerate to occupants who may be affected by their work and give prompt notices before they begin.

Our main gripe, however, is some inconsistency in their service. While most of their clients we’ve spoken to were pleased by the work, some had complaints.

One is that they found some of Pavement Maintenance Inc.’s drivers violating traffic rules, and the second is that there was incomplete cleanup after they finished their work.

These two complaints do worry us, but we were put at ease once we noticed how responsive Pavement Maintenance is towards concerns like these. They can take accountability for their lapses and aim to do better the next time.

Accountability is important to us because mistakes can happen during projects like these. So if you want to be safe with a contractor who’s unafraid to own up to their mistakes, they’re definitely a good pick.

Pros

  • Friendly crew and office staff
  • Quick to schedule projects
  • Uses recycled products
  • Also sells asphalt
  • Huge range of equipment
  • Can work on big projects

Cons

  • Minor complaints of air pollution from projects

Porter W. Yett has been in the business for nearly 100 years, and any company that has stayed running that long has surely built a good track record. Other than the services they offer, they also sell their own asphalt mixes.

You won’t have to worry about additional costs for raw materials if you hire them for any asphalt-related projects. Plus, you’ll be able to choose the appropriate asphalt mix they made themselves.

They’re the only business we found to put recycling as a foundation of their business model without sacrificing the quality of their products. Recycled asphalt isn’t only good for the planet but is also cheaper.

Despite their business size, they offer great prices for their asphalt products and services. They also only hire the most competent office staff and work crew, and we think your property will be in good hands if you hire them.

What makes them unique is that they’re the only business on this list capable of working on huge projects, and we mean huge! They’ve worked on airports, bridges, and federal roads, so you know they can handle the scale of your project.

If there’s one thing that concerns us, it’s air pollution complaints from their projects. While it’s normal for asphalt to produce some dust, too much of it can disturb citizens in the area and harm their health.

However, if your project is only at a residential scale, then worry not. You most likely won’t be needing that much asphalt to produce a huge cloud of dust.

Pros

  • Transparent billing
  • Good at communicating
  • Fair prices
  • Quick to give cost estimates
  • Experienced crew
  • Good cleanup

Cons

  • Some instances of rescheduling
  • Minor complaints of mistakes made

Being a smaller business than others on this list, Checkered Flag Asphalt Paving & Sealcoating mainly works with families and other small businesses in the area.

They’ve developed a friendly approach to doing business and pay close attention to each client. They understand their clients’ concerns and work with what they’re comfortable with.

The clients we’ve spoken to admired Checkered Flag Asphalt Paving & Sealcoating’s owner Don, who works on-site on each project and communicates with each customer of his as well.

Don chooses competent and experienced crew members to work on his business, especially when he knows people are looking to save time and money on projects. They’re committed to giving you the best rates for your projects, whether big or small.

Their smaller crew size doesn’t affect the quality of the work they do. They punctually arrive on location and end on time, but that doesn’t mean their work is rushed. They also pay attention to small details during the project.

If there’s one thing their size has affected them with, it’s a few instances of rescheduling, which can be because of crew shortage. However, they always inform you beforehand and make up for it.

No business is free from making mistakes, and we have heard of some former clients report some errors done in their projects. But it’s how they handled this that impressed us. They fix their mistakes without extra charge!

Overall, Checkered Flag Asphalt Paving & Sealcoating left a good mark on their clients and us, which makes us confident that they’ll give you great service.
