Pros

  • Cozy basement bar
  • Specializes in jazz music
  • Showcases international, national, and regional artists

Cons

  • Basic food menu
  • Poor ventilation

If enjoying live jazz music in a cozy basement bar is your idea of fun, Jack London Revue might just be your next favorite bar.

Located in downtown Portland, they make an easy choice for a relaxing night out with good friends and loved ones.

We love that they especially showcase the original American tradition of jazz music as well as a wide range of music inspired by jazz.

With this special selection of shows, we think they make a great choice for those who enjoy the spontaneity that jazz music offers.

We also appreciate that they feature the best of Northwest’s musicians, showcasing international, national, and regional touring acts.

If you’re looking to discover great new talents, Jack London is definitely a place to start.

Tickets start at $9 but can come up to over $200 depending on the celebrity artist featured.

Jack London fans also say they enjoy the salad and the fries they serve.

However, we do think their food menu is quite simple. In fact, the menu they have on their website only includes five dishes.

Poor ventilation in the bar is also an issue. Nevertheless, patrons can still enjoy a bigger space with more entertainment options upstairs.

Pros

  • Holds open bar events
  • Has a roof deck full-service bar
  • Modern sound systems

Cons

  • Expensive food and drinks
  • Underwhelming food and drinks

Let’s say it’s Friday night, and a long week just ended. You want to let loose, and release any pent-up energy you’ve been holding in.

Wouldn’t singing with a hyped-up crowd in an open show bar patio sound good? We just found you a place to spend this exact Friday night.

Renovated from being an old high school, Revolution Hall is a multi-venue entertainment hub. Here you can find a concert hall, show bar, and a roof deck full-service bar.

Portland locals and guests looking for live music come to their show bar to enjoy a flexible selection including alt-indie, folk, pop, and rock.

We love that they also hold open bar events where guests can come up and simply sing their hearts out—no auditions, no rehearsals, no commitments.

Their show bar set also showcases talented DJs, comedy acts, and drag shows.

If you’re looking for a concert experience, they also feature artists in their Revolution Hall, where fans enjoy incredible seats and modern sound systems.

We also love the full-service bar on their roof deck. With the stunning view it offers, this terrace makes a good sit-down bar where guests can simply relax and enjoy their food.

That said, their food and drinks can, however, be underwhelming, despite the expensive price they cost.

While we love that they offer Electronic Ticket (ETix) options, be warned that they may tack additional fees on top of the ticket prices.

Pros

  • Showcases party bands and DJs
  • Great selection of entertainment options
  • Excellent food and drink

Cons

  • Low ceiling
  • Strict proof of vaccination policies

If you enjoy music and art together, The Goodfoot might just be the place for you.

We love that this two-level venue offers a selection of entertainment options.

Downstairs, their turnout can enjoy a wide range of live music including groove, funk, disco, sexy slow, and jazz. They showcase party bands and DJs playing a mix of dance music.

If reveling in club music is your scene, The Goodfoot has all this talent to offer plus a huge and air-conditioned space for you.

They also sometimes feature artists and musicians popular for their jazz and acoustic music. Although, their sets are usually only limited.

Unfortunately, the ceiling in the basement is also pretty low, which can make the space feel cramped, especially during crowded nights.

But you may be relieved to hear that ticket pricing is relatively cheap. Tickets can cost from $5 to $15 only, and on some nights, they offer free shows too!

If you’re looking for a more relaxing treat, there’s a pub upstairs that serves superb food and drinks and for cheaper prices too! Cocktails range from $7 to $9 only.

Another location feature that we love about them is the art shown on their walls.

We deeply appreciate that they showcase local musicians and artists in all their events. This, we think, truly makes them a pillar of Portland’s culture and entertainment.

They’re, however, strict in requiring vaccination cards. Guests who can’t show proof of their vaccination won’t be entertained, even if they bring negative test results.

Pros

  • Cabin-log aesthetic makes a cozy and warm ambiance
  • Diverse range of music
  • Great selection of food and drinks

Cons

  • Food service can be slow
  • A few guests find their venue small

With its cabin-log aesthetic, Doug Fir Lounge offers a special music experience for its patrons.

We especially love the wide selection of music they offer. They showcase several local and touring artists from different music genres including pop, rock, alternative indie, and reggae.

If you’ve been exploring your music interests, Doug Fir surely features a great list of artist recommendations!

Tickets are from $12 to $25, and patrons can also catch a number of free shows!

Their food and drink selection also doesn’t disappoint.

We love that they offer a complete list of food options including breakfast, dinner, dessert, cocktails, and wine.

Their cocktails are a consistent crowd favorite. And their Bloody Mary is definitely worth coming back for.

Food service can be a hit and miss, though. While some get their food on time, others have to wait long minutes before they can enjoy theirs.

In any case, the staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. We appreciate that they’re attentive to their guests’ requests.

A few guests say the music lounge is too small for them. Still, others enjoy the intimate setting that adds to the warm and cozy ambiance the place has.

The outdoor seats are also perfect for a fresh and laid-back moment of simply enjoying music over good food and drinks.

Pros

  • Diverse range of music selection
  • Vintage aesthetic
  • Excellent food

Cons

  • Rude staff and bartenders
  • Slow food service

Established in 1902, Kelly’s Olympian is truly Portland’s classic.

Over the century, they’ve gone through a sequence of transformations, and in 2008, they finally opened a live music venue for the locals and guests of Portland to enjoy.

We love the unique and exciting music genres they showcase such as indie dream pop, hip hop, goth, alternative, and post-punk.

They feature solo artists and bands alike including Mac Cornish, Rum River Cult, Hovering Shrikes, and Igikopop.

On top of these interesting talents, they also host comedy parties and open mic events.

Tickets usually start at $5 and can come up to $25. Free shows are offered too!

Kelly’s fans also enjoy an over-the-top food menu complete with appetizers, sandwiches, burgers, and salads. Particularly, guests love their burger and buffalo flavored wings.

Unfortunately, food service with them can be slow.

Patrons have also noted that some of their staff and bartenders aren’t friendly and accommodating. In fact, quite a number of guests found them to be rude.

In any case, if you’re only looking for good music, we still think they offer an enjoyable experience.

This dive bar’s vibe is also authentically vintage!

We love that neon signs are everywhere, and bikes are hanging from the ceiling. They even have a pinball machine and a photo booth!

If that’s your kind of aesthetic, Kelly’s will definitely deliver.

Pros

  • Spacious room
  • Quality sound system
  • Many drink options
  • Live music every day

Cons

  • Complaints about slow and bad service

At The Garages Live Music Venue Eatery & Taphouse is a comfortable neighborhood pub that features live music from local and regional musicians and talent.

We find this to be a different kind of restaurant/bar/music venue. The place boasts of a spacious room, lights, and decor that make a nice backdrop.

They also offer professional quality sound system that patrons and bands have dubbed “the best sounding system in the Northwest.” This sound system designed and mixed by 30 year veteran in sound engineering, Steve Griffiths.

This pub also has 24 beers on tap, fine wines by the glass or the bottle, many hard ciders & CBD drinks, 4 Pool Tables, and a large outdoor, covered and heated courtyard with 2 fire pits.

What we like about the place is that they have live music every day, so no matter the day of the week, you can hear various bands perform.

Of course, we asked past customers what they think of the place and many find it to be an excellent place for food, drinks and music.

We did hear that their food and drink service is quite slow especially. We’ve also heard complaints about terrible service and some rude staff. There were also some who found their food unimpressive.

In our opinion, it’s a great place to go to and we’ve had pleasant experiences!
