Top 5 Security Companies in Portland

How We Picked Trusted Security Companies in Portland

Reputation

You’d want a security company that’s built a reputation of trust in the years they’ve been in business. Hence, we only chose the companies with a good track record among their clients

Credentials

The security personnel you hire must have the appropriate training and certification before they get to work with you, for your safety and theirs.

Insurance

Due to the nature of the job, it’s important that the company you work with will have insurance to cover any possible accidents that can happen on the job.

Quality of Service

Aside from the proper credentials, the security personnel must be professional and skilled in what they do. We only chose companies that consistently gave good quality service.

Pros

  • Well-trained guards
  • Accommodating of changing schedules
  • Experienced guards
  • Good record of client trust

Cons

  • Complaints about office staff being unprofessional
  • Minor reports of personnel being disrespectful

Portland Patrol has been in business for 25 years, and as a sign of their excellent training, most of their personnel eventually become police officers!

They’re mostly hired for events and companies needing private security, and it’s up to you whether you choose armed or unarmed guards. You can also choose between having these guards patrol around an area or having them stick to one post.

Most of their clients felt that the guards assigned to them were professional, which made them feel safe. The guards are accommodating of any schedule changes on your end as well as long as you keep them informed.

But we did learn that the quality of service you get isn’t always consistent and will depend on the guards assigned to you.

We heard minor reports of guards being disrespectful and impolite to some private citizens they encountered during the job. These are rare reports, but it’s still important to take note of them regardless.

It’s their office staff that gets more complaints about being unprofessional and unhelpful when it comes to client concerns.

This has been a consistent complaint among their clients, and the redeeming factor has been the quality of service they get from the security guards.

Given all that, do be aware of the possible inconsistencies in service, and if it doesn’t meet your expectations, feel free to explore the other options on this list.

Pros

  • Competent personnel
  • Good phone dispatchers
  • Creates customized security plans
  • Trustworthy guards

Cons

  • High turnover rate means guards assigned to you will change
  • Inconsistent customer service

Pacific Patrol Services sees every person they work with as a partner instead of a client. They provide customized security plans that can be adjusted to fit your needs.

They mostly work with private institutions such as property managers, homeowners associations, and property owners. Once you avail of their services, you’ll be asked what you prioritize most so that they can come up with the appropriate security plan.

It’s important to note that they only have unarmed guards, so if you’re strictly in need of armed guards, it’s best to look elsewhere.

We’ve found most of their guards to be competent, and most of their clients agree.

Their clients have found the guards assigned to them to be trustworthy and professional, but because of the company’s high turnover rate, it’s likely that the guards assigned to them will regularly change.

This is important to take note of, especially if you’re someone who would prefer to develop a long-term professional relationship with the guards assigned to you.

Reports on the quality of their customer service have been inconsistent as well, especially ones about the office staff. Many clients have claimed that the office staff was poor in communicating with them, which led to frustrations on the client’s end.

However, this is largely dependent on the office staff assigned to talk to you, and should you encounter any issues, you can request another person to assist you.

Pros

  • Good communicators
  • Easy to work with
  • Reliable
  • Good record of client trust

Cons

  • High turnover rate means guards assigned to you will change
  • Some reports of inadequate training

Executive Security Services has a range of industries they specialize in and is a member of several security associations.

Their biggest advantage is their excellent communication skills, and it will be rare for you to come across some friction should you decide to work with them.

As we’ve said, they do have a number of industries they specialize in, but we’re most confident in recommending them to you should you need on-site security, loss/theft prevention, and security and transportation of high-value goods.

That doesn’t mean they can’t provide good-quality service for other kinds of needs or industries, but these are the areas they focus training on and are better at.

We have, however, heard of some complaints from their former employees that they felt they received inadequate training for some of the jobs they were assigned to and were concerned about the quality of service the clients would receive.

Their company has a high turnover rate as well, so if you plan to get their services long-term, be aware of the likelihood that the guards assigned to you will regularly change.

Overall, the general consensus among the clients we’ve spoken to has been good, but we do recommend that you hire them if you belong in one of the industries they specialize in to get the best service.

Pros

  • Attentive guards
  • Provides online quotes
  • Flexible pricing
  • Can work on short notice

Cons

  • Minor reports of rude guards
  • Some reports of unprofessional staff

American Diverse Security, or ADS as they go by, has multiple offices around the country and has been providing security services for the past 25 years.

They have armed and unarmed officers for any possible need, including commercial and residential security, event security, and mobile patrol.

What we like best about them is how easy it is to reach them online. You can request a free quote, and if you’re only seeking out short-term or temporary security, you don’t need a long-term contract with them.

Most of their clients have been impressed with the guards who worked with them, especially regarding their attention to detail. The guards were able to spot possible thefts and as a result, made the clients feel safer.

Service will vary with the guard you’re assigned with, and not every client of theirs was satisfied with the quality of service they got. Some claimed that the guards weren’t as attentive at their posts and didn’t seem to care much.

There were also minor reports about some guards being rude to the people in the crowd for an event, but we can’t entirely put the blame on the guards on duty for this one, as it’s possible they were attending to a security concern.

These are, however, rare instances, and the majority of their clients have been satisfied with their services, which makes us confident that they’ll give you good quality service should you work with them.

Pros

  • Well-trained guards
  • Professional staff
  • Ran by veterans
  • Excellent service

Cons

  • Limited services offered
  • Small team

Black Wolf Protection Group is a veteran-owned security company that has a passion for protecting the communities they serve.

Since they’re veteran-owned and operated, it means that their guards have received military training and are familiar with different kinds of security situations. They’ve got military-level discipline too that’s hard to find elsewhere.

You can choose between hiring armed or unarmed officers, in uniform or plain clothes. Other than that, they also offer security training programs and workplace violence protection.

Most of their clients were pleased with the quality of service they received and were also glad that the guards they hired were military veterans. This added another level of credibility that clients appreciated.

Their range of services isn’t as wide as other companies on this list, but it’s still worth a shot to call them and ask if they can provide the services you need. They do their best to adjust to their client’s needs, so it’s likely they can find a way for you.

They also have a smaller team compared to others, so if you’re in need of a large number of guards, it’s best to clarify with them first if they’ve got enough personnel.

That said, we find them to be a competent security service provider, and we’re positive that they’ll give you service of the highest quality that will keep you safe.
