Pros
- 40 years in legal practice
- Offers free consultations
- Offers complimentary credit rebuilding
Cons
- No financing options
In our opinion, Olsen Daines excels in two things: client servicing and client resources.
We think their client service is excellent because they’re always accessible. They make themselves available to clients even on evenings and weekends and can also do emergency same-day filing.
We also appreciate that they offer free consultations, especially for clients contemplating on taking bankruptcy-related actions. In fact, these consultations also come with complimentary credit rebuilding assistance.
These preliminary services already tell us how committed Olsen Daines is to their clients’ welfare.
While most law firms in Portland offer resources to their clients, we find Olsen Daines’ resources not only comprehensive, but also very practical.
For instance, more than providing the different ways one can recover from bankruptcy, they also shed insight on the chances of their clients qualifying for a home loan after bankruptcy, or purchasing a new vehicle in the middle of a bankruptcy action.
Beyond the technicalities of bankruptcy law, we think it is important for law firms offer foresight and help their clients make decisions that might possibly affect their financial situation.
This is what we think Olsen Daines does very well.
Overall, Olsen Daines can give you excellent end-to-end legal services paired with practical client resources.

Pros
- File now, pay later option
- Offers alternative payment options
- Provides free consultations
Cons
- Limited scope of services
We think that that Christopher J. Kane PC understands the feeling of overwhelm when it comes to bankruptcy. As such, we like how he offers a fresh start to those who need it, whether individuals or small businesses.
They do this by offering their own Zero Down Program, which gives their clients the opportunity to file now and pay later. It is a financing option granted to clients who earn at least $2,000 a month in gross income.
We also appreciate the personalized service they provide. Throughout the process, Atty. Kane personally talks to clients and doesn’t simply leave their cases to a paralegal, which is a simple but effective way to establish trust.
Also noteworthy is how they’ve designed their services to increase convenience for their clients.
First, they offer free consultations, which can be done through videoconferencing should clients prefer this method. This can also be easily scheduled through their website, or through a call.
Second, they offer to file their clients’ bankruptcy documentations electronically, which helps save time, effort, and money.
Finally, they also thoughtfully provide alternative payment options to their clients, including online payment through LawPay.
For the “little guy” in the courtroom, we think it’s safe to say that Christopher J. Kane PC is a great fit. This firm operates from a place of empathy and expertise, firmly grounded in personalized client service for that much-needed human touch.

Pros
- Offers free consultations
- Provides flexible consultation options
- Shares comprehensive resources
Cons
- Limited scope of services
- No financing options
For us, Brian Wheeler is the best choice for those who are looking for a way to start but are feeling a little lost. This is hugely because of the easy start they provide for their potential clients.
A couple of things stood out to us when it comes to how Brian Wheeler makes getting started on a bankruptcy action more bearable.
First, we appreciate that Brian Wheeler offers free initial bankruptcy consultations. Clients have the option of doing this in person, over the phone, or even via email, depending on their level of comfort.
We also like that this free consultation can last as long as an hour, which is already more generous in comparison to other law firms that only offer 20 minutes of their time tops.
They also provide a list of the basic questions that will be asked during the initial bankruptcy consultation, which helps the client prepare the information beforehand.
Secondly, with the resources this firm provides, we believe that clients benefit from additional insight and data pertaining to their unique situation.
Aside from an easy start, clients can also expect an excellent finish from Brian Wheeler.
We appreciate that they recommend clients to a bankruptcy counseling company called Urgent Credit Counseling, which offers affordable online counseling that could be useful post-court.

Pros
- 20 years in legal practice
- Offers free consultations
- 24-hour service
Cons
- No financing options
Michael D. O’Brien and Associates PC is extremely credible in Bankruptcy Law, housing two of the only three lawyers in Oregon who are nationally certified as Consumer Bankruptcy Specialists.
Having been in legal practice for 20 years, they’ve also earned awards and distinctions that add to their credibility, which is nothing short of impressive.
In fact, some of these include a literary distinction from Legal Excellence Awards and being one of the 10 Best Attorneys for Client Satisfaction.
Based on credentials alone, it is easy to see why so many clients gravitate towards this firm.
While they claim to offer affordable payment plans, we discovered that this isn’t actually the case. What they do offer is a list of additional legal fees that clients need to prepare to pay for throughout the process.
We do appreciate that they include these costs in their fee quotation, which saves their clients the inconvenience of paying these costs separately.
One of the best things about this firm for us is that they offer free consultations to their clients, as well as 24/7 services. There is nothing more reassuring than legal counsel being available to you at any time of the day.
Although they don’t offer financing options to their clients, they do provide an online payment option with LawPay, easily accessible through their website. This makes transactions seamless and safe, which is always a plus.
5. Northwest Debt Relief Law Firm

Client Service | 3.5/5 |

Pros
- Offers alternative payment options
- Provides credit rebuilding program
- Free consultation available
Cons
- Some issues with accessibility of service
There are two things that we like about Northwest Debt Relief Law Firm: first, the alternative payment plans they offer, and second, their credit rebuilding program.
There are a lot of fees that go into the total cost of a bankruptcy action, such as the client’s income or assets.
Nevertheless, Northwest Debt Relief can offer to start their clients’ Chapter 7 Bankruptcy case for $450 covering their pre-file legal fees.
After the action has been filed, the clients are given the opportunity to pay the remainder of the attorney’s fees in monthly payments of $150 for 10 months.
Furthermore, if you can complete the attorney fees in one payment, they will give you a $300 discount.
We think that this makes them suitable for clients with limited finances and are looking for flexible payment arrangements.
Second, while other bankruptcy lawyers in Portland offer credit rebuilding services, we think their approach is more sustainable.
This is because the credit-rebuilding service they offer isn’t just a list of to-dos, but a complete educational program.
They’ve partnered up with 720 Credit Score, a company that provides credit education covering the step-by-step process of rebuilding credit scores.
The best part about this is that this program is all for free! We can really see this firm’s commitment to help people with limited resources.
All in all, Northwest Debt Relief makes a good investment with its flexible and holistic services.

Pros
- Free and confidential consultation
- Compassionate, professional and knowledgeable lawyer
- Specializes in Chapter 7 and 13 bankruptcies
Cons
- Operating hours unavailable
Adam Weiner has been in the field of law in Oregon since 1998, so he is well-versed when it comes to the laws in this state.
He as spent many years representing individuals in different types of litigation, but decided to focus on representing individuals and small businesses in Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 bankruptcies in 2009.
We think he is one of the most professional, knowledgeable and compassionate lawyers that give it their all to help guide individuals with their debt issues.
When it comes to issues involving Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcy, we find that he’s one of the best to go to.
In fact, he filed a Chapter 7 way back in 2006, so he understand what it’s like to be in that position, as well as how the process goes.
What we like is his personal attention to each and every client. He sees to it that he pays each one great attention, so each clients feels cared for.
He has received many awards for this, and rightfully so.
We like that they offer free and confidential consultations for bankruptcy concerns.
If you want a seamless experience to resolve your issues, we think that Adam is an excellent option for you.
