Top 5 Cat Boarding Facilities in Portland
How we picked
Facilities
You want your cat to have everything they need in a place outside of your home. We chose places that have everything your cat will need and made sure these places are well-maintained.
Services Offered
Outside of having a place for your cat to stay, it’s important that your cat will be taken care of and that their needs are met. This also includes the need to administer medication.
Insurance
Unpredictable things can happen and your cat may be caught in an accident or catch an illness, and it’s best for you and your cat to be covered by insurance should anything happen.
Cost
You can give your cat a comfortable and luxurious experience without breaking the bank. We chose places that offer the best value for money with the services they provide.

Pros
- Gives daily updates
- Cage-free amenities
- Has a communal space for cats
- Each cat has their own suite
- Caring staff
Cons
- Limited suites
- Won’t accommodate walk-ins
Formerly BellyRub Pets, Pounce Play and Stay has since moved toward specializing in cat care.
Upon first sight, you’ll be impressed at the amenities they have available for your cat. They don’t have cages, but instead, each cat will get their own suite.
Not only that, there’s a communal space for all their feline guests to play and socialize. But if your cat isn’t friendly and would prefer to be alone, then you don’t have to worry, as their staff is very skilled at reading each cat’s personality.
They offer basic grooming services like brushing and trimming your cat’s nails, but that depends on whether your cat will allow it. If your cat needs to take medication or vitamins, they can administer that too.
We’re impressed by how seriously they take the welfare of each cat, but that does mean they have to limit the number of cats they take in. They only have 25 suites, so if it’s the holiday or vacation season, it will be better for you to reserve in advance.
They’re also thorough in their reservation process, and you’ll have to fill up an online form of your cat’s health and behavioral background, including the information about their vets.
They won’t welcome pets until they have confirmed the vet details, and walk-ins are strictly not allowed. This is to ensure the safety of all of their feline guests, but it’s important to take note of this before you book your cat a stay in their facilities.

Pros
- Large space in each cat suite
- Good prices
- Staff takes time to bond with cats
- Cage-free amenities
- Can accommodate cats with special needs
Cons
- Cats can’t get out of their suites
- No chance for socialization with other cats
Kitty Cat Condos stays true to their name. One look at each of their suites and condos will assure you that your cat will have a safe and luxurious time in their stay here.
Depending on the kind of accommodation you’ll get, a room can have climbing trees, beds, cat furniture, a window view, and even a TV!
But if you want a more humble place for your purring friend, then you can opt for budget cubicles that are equipped only with the basics.
The smaller cubicles are better for kittens and cats with mobility issues, not for cats who need a space to explore.
On this same note, your cats won’t be let out of their suites during their stay, which is why it would be better to book your feline friend in a larger room.
But you don’t have to worry about the possibility that your cat could get lonely because their staff takes the time to bond with your cat and will give them lots of rubs and love if they see that your cat asks for it.
Additionally, your cats won’t have the opportunity to socialize and play with the other guests for safety. We understand why, but if you prefer your cat to be able to socialize and roam around in common areas, then you may want to look elsewhere.
But if you think your cat can thrive being in a room alone while you’re away, then Kitty Cat Condos is the place to go.
3. Cats in the City

Pros
- Cage-free amenities
- Has lots of toys
- Accommodates cats with special needs
- Has online client portal
- Gives thorough care
Cons
- Owners aren’t allowed to visit cats during their stay
- On the pricier end
- Has a 3-day minimum boarding fee
Cats in the City is not just another cat hotel, but they offer a bevy of cat services as well. They’re a cat hotel and spa, offering cat boarding, grooming services, and even a cat taxi.
They’ve got two locations in the city, one in Tacoma and one in Tabor. You can choose which one will be more convenient for you, although the Tabor location has more room options for cats.
All of their private rooms are spacious, and depending on which one you’ll get, your cat can even have their very own staircase! But if that’s out of your budget, all the other rooms have cat toys and structures for them to climb on.
There are rooms that have direct window views or access to the outdoors that’s still closed off in a private area for your cat, which is great if your cat loves to explore the indoors and outdoors.
They lean toward the more expensive side, and the cheapest option starts at $50 with a three-day minimum. If that’s too much for you, please look at the other options on this list.
They also charge for additional services like medication administration and even one-on-one time with your cats, which other cat hotels offer as part of their services.
You’re also not allowed to visit your cat during their stay, and this is so your cat won’t look for you when you leave again. This can be a dealbreaker to some purr parents, so do take note of this before you book your cat a stay in Cats in the City.
4. Meowhaus Feline Boarding & Day Spa

Pros
- Cage-free amenities
- Offers a free nail trim with 2-night stays
- Gives cats free daily treats
- Cuddles cats on the regular
- Gives constant updates
Cons
- A bit expensive
- Can be hard to get a hold of
- Charges for medication administration
Meowhaus Feline Boarding & Day Spa is a great place for cats who love seeing the sun because all of their suites have a skybox balcony for cats to enjoy.
Each suite is designed to keep cats entertained with multiple levels for them to climb on and a scratching carpet. Some rooms have a window view into the aviary.
We especially like how they have a suite dedicated to cats with special needs or mobility issues. The climbing options are still there but with the added security of ramps and carpeted stairs should your cat need it.
If you’d like your cat to get pampered during their stay in Meowhaus, you can also have them bathed and brushed—with additional fees, of course—but if your cat is staying for at least two nights, they can get a free nail trim.
They’re a bit on the pricier end with rates starting at $40 for the standard suite, but we think it’s worth it considering the level of care the staff gives to each feline guest of theirs.
If there’s a gripe we have about their rates, it’s the fact that they charge for medication administration at $5 a day, and this can go up to $20 if your cat needs injections or any other specialized treatments.
They’re also not the best at keeping up with their emails and online reservations. A call might be a better option, but sometimes these are unanswered too and your safest bet will be visiting them in person to reserve your slot.
5. Mittens Motel
Services: Cat boarding, cat daycare, cat grooming, cat fostering and adoption, medication administration

Pros
- Has first-time discount
- Friendly and caring staff
- Walk-ins welcome during business hours
- Affordable
Cons
- Few complaints about smell
- Small basic rooms
Other than being a cat hotel and spa, Mittens Motel also fosters and adopts cats and supports local cat rescues in the area. In fact, you may even find yourself taking another cat home after your visit!
We’re impressed with the kind of care their staff gives to each of their guests, and they’re quick to understand your cat’s distinct personality as well as their likes and dislikes.
If it’s your cat’s first time staying with them, you’ll receive a 10% discount on your fees. Additionally, they also offer military and senior citizens discounts as well as ones for guests staying over 30 days.
Their fees are affordable, beginning at $25 a day for the most basic room, but it won’t be a lot of space for your cat to wander around. It only comes with a bed and no other climbing structures, unless you upgrade to the more premium rooms.
Your cats are free to wander around the common areas, but it’s always under supervision by the staff. This will be beneficial to sociable cats who want to play with the other feline guests.
The place is decently maintained, but it can still be improved. Several owners have complained of the smell of urine upon their visit and were worried about their cat’s health and cleanliness, but luckily this never became an issue.
Having said that, we do recommend that you visit them first to see if the facilities meet your expectations. If not, other options on this list may be a better choice for you.
