The Lippmann Company has been labeled by many as a one-stop shop for your party needs, and it’s for good reason.

First, they’ve got items for different kinds of events such as birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, Halloween, Pride, Cinco de Mayo, and even adult-themed parties.

You can also rent games and props for your event, like a jukebox, cardboard cutouts, and a full bingo set. We also like how they make it convenient for customers and have a complete rental price list on their website.

They also sell balloons from the common latex balloon to customizable foil balloons. You can also buy, rent, or refill a helium tank from them if you need it for your party.

But if you’re looking for basic party supplies like paper plates and cups, we suggest that you look elsewhere. The specialty items in the Lippmann store are fairly priced, but you can save more if you shop for basic party needs somewhere else.

They’ve got adequate stock all year round for common events like birthdays and weddings, but it’s possible for them to have little to no stock when the holidays are coming.

For example, if you’re shopping for Christmas items right after Thanksgiving, you may not find them right away, so it will be better to give them a call before your visit to ask if they have what you need.

Boom Boom’s Balloons specializes in balloons and piñatas but mostly the latter. In their store, you’ll find a wide selection of piñatas in all shapes and forms.

They have piñatas in common designs that are usually used for birthdays, but they also have some of cartoon characters and animals that are great for children’s birthday parties.

If you’re in need of a custom design, you can request the design you have in mind and they’ll be happy to make it for you. But we do encourage you to have a clear agreement with the owner on this one, as this is where the complaints come from.

A few customers have reported that they’ve had disagreements with the owner regarding their custom piñata, with one claiming that they never got the piñata they ordered, as the owner had sold it to someone else.

Another complained about the quality of the piñata they received and was charged extra when they requested adjustments.

But if it’s any consolation, these are rare complaints and don’t represent the majority of the customer feedback we heard.

A bigger drawback would be the limited selection of items Boom Boom’s Balloons has. Aside from balloons and piñatas, they only have ribbons, cards, and some other craft items.

So unless you’re specifically looking for piñatas and balloons, it may be better to shop in the other options on this list.

Cheers To You Party Goods is a boutique party goods store that has everything you’ll need for special events in your life like birthdays, weddings, and baby showers.

Should you visit their store, they’ve got a dedicated balloon bar that makes it fun for customers to select different kinds of balloons and tassels. Not only that, the store’s display is well-organized and you won’t have a hard time finding what you need.

What they specialize in most, however, are custom balloon arrangements and custom yard greetings.

The owner takes time in getting to know your preferences and vision for the event, and from what we’ve heard from their customers, they’ve got a good record in its execution.

That said, we do think they’re best suited for more personal events like birthdays, graduations, and anniversaries, rather than holidays like Christmas or Halloween.

That doesn’t mean they won’t take custom orders for holidays, but most of their orders are for personal events rather than regular holidays. You won’t find a wide selection of items for regular holidays in their store either.

But what they do have in store are of good quality, and they’re dedicated to giving customer satisfaction and even follow-up after your event to make sure you had a good time!

The quality of their products does mean some items lean toward the expensive side, but if it fits within your budget for your event, we think it’s worth it.

Party Fair has a wide selection of party items and themes and is almost always well-stocked throughout the year. 

But if you need to get an idea of the kind of items they have in stock, you can look through their online store and order from there. It will be different from actually shopping in-store, but it’s a plus for those who seek convenience.

They’re a good choice if you’re planning a kid’s birthday party because they have a lot of licensed party supply themes like Frozen, Pokemon, Minecraft, and Disney Princesses.

They also offer different kinds of balloons, but if you order online, be sure to choose the right selections to make sure the balloon is ready and inflated once you pick it up.

But should you buy balloons in-store, we suggest that you come in early. Several customers have complained that they were told that the balloon machine is turned off at a certain time in the day without giving them prior notice.

The time as to which the balloon machine is turned off is inconsistent, which points to the poor customer service you’ll encounter at Party Fair. Their staff doesn’t seem keen to assist you, and customers feel as though the staff is aloof.

So if you do plan to give them a visit, do be wary of their poor record of customer service. If you’d like to avoid that, we suggest that you order online so you can just pick up your order once it’s ready.

Would this list be complete if we didn’t put Dollar Tree in it? This is the best place to go if you’re planning a party on a tight budget.

There are multiple Dollar Tree stores around Portland, but we chose this one because it’s larger than others. The displays will vary depending on the store you visit, but this larger store will give you a better chance of finding what you need.

The biggest advantage Dollar Tree has over others on this list is their wide variety of all products. They don’t just sell party goods and supplies but also homeware and food, so you can sneak in a few bags of candy while shopping for your party.

Shopping online on their website is a breeze too, and you have the option to pick it up in the store of your choice or have it delivered to your home. Not only that, but you may also find items online that won’t be in the store nearest you.

This is important because it’s not uncommon for Dollar Tree to run out of stock of some items in their stores. Thus, shopping online will be a better option if you don’t want to store-hop in between their branches.

We also urge you to not expect much from their customer service. They have a history of being understaffed, so you can’t expect someone to be able to attend to you.

But if you’re an independent shopper who can get around the store on your own, then you should definitely go to Dollar Tree for your party needs.
