Pros
- Good value for money
- Clean rooms
- Has armed guard patrolling the area
- Pets are allowed
- Close to the airport
Cons
- Some concerns of safety
- Thin walls and can be noisy
- Reports of air conditioning not working
Motel 6 has a chain of motels nationwide, and they’ve become a popular choice for travelers around the country.
The amenities and service will vary according to which Motel 6 you’re staying at, but this specific location has an outdoor pool, free Wi-Fi, and free parking for their guests.
All their rooms have air conditioning and a mini fridge, and you can choose between a smoking or nonsmoking room. Regardless of which one you choose, their rooms are clean and their guests found the beds to be comfortable.
A common complaint we did hear about their rooms is that some of their AC units are broken and old, which means your room can be hot. Hence, we suggest that you test out your AC unit the moment you arrive at your room to ensure it works fine.
The walls are also thin, and depending on which room you get, you might end up overhearing your neighbor or the freeway outside. Given this, it will be better for you to request a room that isn’t right by the freeway.
Considering its location, some guests have been concerned about their safety, and the motel has had crime reports in years past. However, the motel has since added an armed guard to the grounds to keep their guests safe.
As for the motel’s hospitality, it’s good enough for its price and for the services they offer, but it’s best to manage your expectations, as this is still a budget motel after all.

Pros
- Convenient location
- Large beds
- Has bathtubs in all rooms
- Fair prices
- Polite staff
Cons
- Dated decor for rooms
- Some issues with online reservations
Viking Motel has been in business since 1978 and has been owned and operated by the same family ever since. One look at their exterior will give an impression that it’s homier than motels usually are.
Their rooms are comfortable, clean, and well-maintained. You can choose between a room with a single king bed or a double room that has two queen beds, which is perfect for small groups or families.
The design and decor in their rooms are a bit outdated, from the walls to the bedsheets, but these are purely aesthetic complaints and don’t affect the overall quality in our opinion.
But you won’t have to worry about that if you’re not one who’ll stay for long periods of time in your room. Viking Motel is in a convenient location that’s close to the MAX Lightrail and is just walking distance from restaurants and groceries in the city.
They don’t have a lot of public amenities in the motel for you to enjoy, but they do have an outdoor patio and coin laundry in their location.
You won’t have to worry much about noise unless you’re in a split room, and the location isn’t by a noisy street that sees a lot of traffic.
The one complaint we did keep hearing was about their online reservation system. Some guests’ reservations were not entertained upon their arrival.
Given this, we suggest that you call them to confirm your reservation before your visit.
3. Portland Inn and Suites

Pros
- Wide choice of rooms
- Clean and spacious rooms
- Safe and convenient location
- Has complimentary gourmet coffee
Cons
- Can be noisy
- High charges for stains or damages
Portland Inn and Suites offers four different kinds of rooms that are suitable for any kind of traveler.
They’ve got a queen room, a queen suite, a standard family room, and a two-queen suite. Each room has its own flat-screen cable TV, air conditioning, and heating as well as its very own kitchenette.
Despite its price, there are a few bits of luxury for you to experience in the Portland Inn and Suites. For one, they’ve got memory foam pillows and designer beddings that are rare to find in other budget motels.
We were also impressed by the cleanliness of their rooms and the whole establishment, and many of their guests have commended their housekeeping services for being detailed and quick to respond to calls.
They do take cleanliness very seriously, and if you somehow end up staining the bedsheets, they will charge you a hefty fine of more than $100. We understand the reason for charging, but we also think the price isn’t reasonable.
This is, however, avoidable if you’re careful. What isn’t avoidable is the noise that’s more prominent if you’re placed in a room by the street.
Several guests have complained of the noise coming from outside, and while there weren’t too many complaints about noise from other rooms, it’s still a possibility.
Overall, we still think Portland Inn and Suites is a comfortable and convenient place to stay in, but it’s best to request a room away from the street to ensure a good night’s sleep.

Pros
- Convenient location
- Clean and quiet rooms
- Stair-free access to rooms
- Fast Wi-Fi
- Cheaper rates for children below 15
Cons
- Some rooms are small
- Some complaints of AC unit being loud
- Minor complaints about safety
Capitol Hill Motel is a quaint motel that’s perfect if you need a convenient spot downtown. An added bonus to their convenient location is that noise isn’t a common issue with their guests.
The biggest advantage they have is their excellent hospitality. The owner and the staff are attentive to feedback, and guests found them to be friendly and accommodating.
When it comes to aesthetics, the motel has a vintage vibe and matches expectations for what a roadside motel looks like, complete with the signs. However, this does mean that the decor in their rooms can be outdated to some.
This is, of course, only a minor complaint, considering the rooms are clean and well-maintained. Depending on the room you get, it may be a little cramped, but there’s enough space for the bed and the bathroom.
Another complaint we did hear about was how some of their AC units can be loud, especially since they’re older units. However, we don’t think this will be a hindrance to your stay, as the motel’s staff is ready to assist you with your concerns.
There were also a few guests who felt unsafe upon their arrival when they saw the location of Capitol Hill Motel, but we found no major crime reports or anything of that sort in our research.
What puts them on this list is their high-quality hospitality, and we think that they will do their best to make you feel safe and comfortable.

Pros
- Low rates
- Convenient location
- Helpful staff
- Free coffee and tea
Cons
- Small rooms
- Limited parking
- Some reports of bedbugs
Eastside Lodge may not look like your traditional motel with their sleek all-black exterior, but they offer some of the lowest rates for budget motels in the city.
The price is dependent on the date and the room you’ll choose, but their prices usually don’t go any higher than $125. That does mean you will have to manage your expectations with what they offer, but they have all the basics.
The rooms are smaller compared to other motels on this list, and most of the space is taken up by the beds. Don’t worry because while their rooms are small, it isn’t small enough for you to feel claustrophobic in them.
Cleanliness isn’t their strongest suit either, as there were some guests who complained about the presence of bedbugs.
These guests were also unsatisfied with the service they experienced, as they were unable to receive a refund from the motel.
However, we were also able to hear good remarks about the quality of service they got from the motel staff. This will depend on the staff on shift, so we can’t give a definite score on that.
In our opinion, Eastside Lodge is a great option for those who’ll only need their rooms for a place to sleep. It’s in a convenient location in town, especially to those who are going out to explore the Portland nightlife.
But one last note: they only have limited parking slots, so if their slots are full, you’ll have to find street parking by the area.
