We checked out Insight Northwest Counseling, and here’s what we were truly impressed with.

The practice stands out for its experienced team of therapists, each specializing in issues like school stress, emotional regulation, and identity acceptance.

One therapist in particular, Mattie McClaskey, impressed us with her expertise in anxiety, trauma, and navigating gender and sexual identity.  Clients have shared that they feel welcomed in a supportive environment where open communication is encouraged.

We were also impressed with the practice’s accessibility. Insight has a convenient location in Eugene, Oregon, and offers both in-person and virtual sessions. This flexibility makes it easier for people to find a time and format that works for them.

What we didn’t love, however, was the booking process. Due to the high demand for their services, securing an appointment can be tricky at times. But considering the quality of service they provide, it’s a small inconvenience worth navigating.

All in all, we were thoroughly impressed by Insight Northwest Counseling’s commitment to providing a space where clients can feel affirmed in their experiences. This could be a big help for anyone seeking support for emotional well-being and identity exploration.

Pros

  • Experienced therapists
  • Focus on students and young adults
  • Specialized therapies
  • Supportive environment
  • Accessibility
  • Focus on identity acceptance

Cons

  • Limited focus
  • Potential scheduling issues

Head and Heart Therapy stands out for its creative and down-to-earth therapeutic methods. One standout method is the Internal Family System (IFS), which views the mind as having different “parts” and focuses on helping these parts work together in harmony.

The team here includes skilled, licensed clinical social workers and licensed professional counselors who focus on helping clients connect the dots between what they know in their heads and what they feel in their hearts.

People who’ve worked with Head and Heart Therapy often share how much the space allows them to grow.

What impressed us was the consistent feedback from clients about the space’s warm and validating atmosphere. Many have shared how much this environment encourages growth, making it easier to confront tough emotions and embrace who they really are.

However, some clients have expressed a desire for more options for group therapy sessions. While the focus is on one-on-one support, adding group sessions could give people an additional layer of connection and insight.

Pros

  • Creative and down-to-earth therapeutic methods
  • Skilled team
  • Personal growth opportunities
  • Warm and validating environment
  • Flexible approach
  • Positive client feedback

Cons

  • Limited group therapy options

After checking out The Thriving Center of Psychology, we found it to be a solid choice for anyone dealing with stress, life transitions, or even religious and spiritual concerns.

The therapists here use a mix of evidence-based methods like mindfulness and cognitive reframing, which seems to resonate with a variety of clients.

One thing that stood out to us is how careful they are in matching clients with experienced therapists. People appreciate the tailored support they get, and the flexibility of offering both in-person and virtual sessions is a bonus.

The center’s approach to stress management is also pretty unique, combining holistic methods with traditional counseling.

For example, they use therapeutic techniques to manage mental and emotional stress while integrating practices such as yoga or meditation to alleviate the physical manifestations of stress.

On the down side, some clients have mentioned that navigating insurance reimbursements for out-of-network services can be a bit tricky. This could be an issue if you rely on insurance for coverage.

Pros

  • Multidisciplinary approach
  • Evidence-based techniques
  • Thorough therapist matching
  • Flexible service options
  • Tailored support
  • Unique stress management approach

Cons

  • Insurance reimbursement issues

Bluett Counseling specializes in sex and dating therapy. They offer a supportive space for individuals and couples to work through issues like performance anxiety, sexual trauma, and infidelity.

Patrick Bluett, the licensed counselor behind it all, uses person-centered behavioral therapy. He creates a supportive and non-judgmental environment where clients can express their feelings and thoughts freely. He focuses on the client and allows them to control the therapy.

What stood out to us was how clients seemed to appreciate the welcoming vibe. It’s a place where sensitive topics can be discussed openly, without judgment.

Patrick’s skill in unpacking deep-rooted behavioral patterns and improving communication skills helps clients navigate some pretty tough emotional waters.

We also really appreciate that Bluett Counseling offers teletherapy options. This makes it easier to get the support you need from wherever you are.

Just a heads-up: if you’re looking to use insurance, Bluett Counseling doesn’t accept it directly, which could be a challenge for some folks dealing with financial concerns.

Pros

  • Compassionate and inclusive approach
  • Welcoming environment
  • Expertise in behavioral patterns
  • Expertise in sex and dating issues
  • Teletherapy options

Cons

“Patrick is extremely attentive to folks needs in a way that feels very individualized.

He is genuine in his care and it shows through immediately which is comforting given the vulnerabilities we face in life.

He is in the LGBTQ2S+ community and is very queer affirming which is important to me and I feel safe in his space. The positive impact that he has made in my life is something I carry with me on the daily. Thank you Patrick!”

We recently had the opportunity to take a close look at Couples Counseling of Portland and their approach to helping couples navigate challenges such as infidelity, divorce, and complex relationship dynamics.

From our research, we were impressed by the breadth of therapeutic methods they use, particularly Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and the Gottman Method. These methods are designed to help couples reconnect, improve communication, and rebuild intimacy.

One of the things that stood out to us during our conversations with the staff was the commitment to using evidence-based methods. Therapists like Steven M. Cohn bring these proven techniques into their sessions, helping couples find their way back to each other.

Clients we talked to also appreciated the team’s efforts in creating a compassionate, judgment-free space for couples to work through tough issues. The mix of in-person and online sessions made it easier for couples to fit therapy into their busy lives.

However, some couples have mentioned they’d love to see more flexibility in fee structures to make therapy more affordable and accessible for everyone.

Pros

  • Specialized support
  • Evidence-based methods
  • Compassionate and safe space
  • Variety of services
  • Focus on healing
  • Couple counseling centered
  • Positive client feedback
  • Experienced therapists

Cons

  • Fixed pricing structure
  • Limited to couple counseling

We thought it would be awkward to share our personal problems with a stranger, but she made us feel comfortable.

“We found Couples Counseling of Portland on FB when we were looking for pre-marital counseling. It was a great experience with our therapist Samantha. She asked us questions about our relationship and helped us identify our strengths and weaknesses as a couple. At the beginning, we thought it would be awkward to share our personal problems with a stranger, but she made us feel comfortable.”

Haily Bidleman, Google Reviews

We have had nothing but positive experiences.

“I don’t often review businesses or people unless I’m extremely impressed or disappointed, and in this case, I am very impressed. My wife and I have been seeing Melissa at Couples Counseling of Portland for the past six weeks, and so far, we have had nothing but positive experiences. Our sessions will last until the end of next month, and it sounds cliche (I know) but we are already seeing positive changes in our relationship. We’re excited!”
