Pros

  • Offers private dog training
  • Board and training program available
  • Small trainer to dog ratio in programs
  • Private customized programs
  • Highly experienced dog trainers and behavior consultants

Cons

  • Certain programs can be expensive

PAVLOV Dog Training can be an exciting choice for homeowners who want to free up some time in their busy schedules. This is because they offer flexible training programs that aren’t too demanding on the owner’s part.

One of these is their private dog training lessons (a customized program done at the convenience of the client’s home. Instead of driving to the center for training, the team comes to the client’s home, eliminating the need to travel.

Not only does this save time, but it also saves money in the long run, especially for intensive programs. Plus, we do think it’s a great starting point for dogs who need to get familiar with their immediate surroundings and neighborhood.

If private dog training isn’t your thing, they also gave a board and train program. We love the class sizes are small (only 3 dogs per trainer) and that the program involves two tiers of obedience training (off and on leash).

While the majority of the clients we interviewed love this program, we can’t help but feel a bit off about its prices. Two weeks of the program can easily cost the owner $3,000 – really something to think about if you’re not too loaded with cash.

But, what gave us peace of mind in knowing that they have highly experienced dog training specialists to deal with your pets. Plus, they’re known to be quite friendly with their training approach too, which puts us at ease.

Pros

  • 16 different classes available
  • Individual attention provided in a group setting
  • Small class size
  • Reasonable class rates
  • Virtual dog training programs available
  • Trained professional instructors and assistants

Cons

  • No in-home private dog training
  • Class slots may fill up fast

If you prefer a more structured approach to dog training, you might enjoy what Happy-Go-Lucky Dog Training offers. They have a wide variety of classes that are specifically designed to hone specific dog skills.

The training centers hold an average of 16 classes per week between their 2 training rooms. These classes are supervised by 6 professional dog trainers and 5 assistant instructors, which is more than enough to keep classes in order.

Apart from control, having a lot of eyes in a class also means better individual attention. That’s why we know every dog here receives equal and one-on-one care, plus additional practice tricks become easier to teach with this approach.

While the class size is fairly small with only 5 to 7 dogs, the downside is that there’s a chance that slots may fill up fast. So if you’re considering group dog training, you may want to stay updated whenever they open enrolment.

Alternatively, there are also private dog training sessions available at a slightly higher rate. However, they don’t have in-home lessons at the moment, so the private training is still done at their center.

If you really prefer something that can be done at home, you may want to look into their virtual training services. Another option is purchasing their Train At Home video package which enables you to train your dog at your own pace.

Pros

  • Specializes in foundational training and specialization
  • Comprehensive classes offered
  • In-studio or online training options
  • Outdoor course electives available
  • Small class size
  • Free training materials for owners

Cons

  • Can be difficult to contact at times

Wonder Puppy is one of the most reputable dog training centers in Portland – and all for good reasons, of course. The center basically has various puppy-centered programs at reasonable rates that won’t hurt your pockets.

This full-service puppy parenting center offers socialization services as well as basic skill classes. Basic skills are divided into 3 tiers and the class will depend on your dog’s age and the skills you’re trying to build.

What’s good about these classes is that the class size is fairly small, so there’s still room for individual attention. Other than that, there’s also an option to take this online if that would be more convenient for you.

For owners that want a more customized experience, private dog training is definitely their best bet. Similar to other classes, this can also be done in-studio or online (it can also be done outdoors depending on your dog’s needs).

Apart from these structured training options, they also do have these electives meant for puppies aged 5 months and above. This outdoor course is aimed at establishing control in an outdoor environment which is something you can consider.

The only issue we see with this center is that they can be difficult to contact at times, but the rest of the things are just fine. The rates are also slightly higher than usual but they do have free training materials that owners can use.

Pros

  • Over 10 years of experience in the field
  • Provides excellence dog training programs
  • Online training course is available
  • Safe and structured learning environment
  • Well-equipped facility

Cons

  • Minor difficulty in setting up an appointment (often fully-booked)

We understand how important the safety and the excellence of the training facility are for a fur-parent like you. With Kindred Dog PDX Dog Training and its over a decade of experience, we think you and your dog are in for a treat.

First things first, their facility provides a safe and structured learning environment (weather-friendly), both for the pets and their owners. To be precise, their building is 5,200 square feet in total, perfect to provide ample rooms for every training program they offer.

Speaking of their programs, owners can choose among the current ones they have: private lessons, board and trains, and group lessons. The good news is, that they look forward to expanding into holding workshops as well, which opens more doors for exciting activities.

Amongst the said services, we love their private dog training lessons simply because they utilize both in-person and digital teaching, very convenient on your part. Moreover, they let the owner be fully on-board on everything and personally be the dog trainer.

This, for us, is a good thing seeing that it gives the fur-parents the knowledge and application of the commands. In this way, you can definitely be aware of how to give directions in moments where your dog needs it most, which is the very reason for this training.

Ever since the center has gained a 5-star rating on Yelp, they’ve been really busy accommodating new dogs under their care. That’s why we do recommend setting up an appointment as soon as possible if you ever want to avail of their service.

Pros

  • Council for Professional Dog Trainers Certified
  • Positive and reward-based training system
  • Conducts thorough consultation
  • Customized training plan
  • Provides discount/package for returning clients

Cons

  • High pricing system

One thing that made us recommend Noble Woof Dog Training PDX is because of their certified dog trainers. Honestly speaking, this gives us a great impression of them which we’ll highlight in this review.

Speaking of that, we made aware of the fact that they have gone training under Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers, making them knowledge-assessed in the industry. This thing alone clearly sets them apart from their competitors in the area.

Their positive and reward-based training system is another reason they made it on our list. The center believes that this sets them up to learn quicker all without a need for confusing corrections, and we couldn’t agree more.

Moreover, they conduct a 90-minute consultation first to assess what kind of training suits your dog, which, we think, is definitely a great start. If needed (what usually happens), they will customize a training plan that they will make sure works towards the goal.

For high-quality service, the center surely charges high prices which might make you think twice. Under their basic training, new client consultations plus three sessions, the price starts at $600, while the six sessions cost $1,130.

Fortunately, they offer returning client packages (for established ones), which are hundreds of dollars less than the price we mentioned above. In addition to that, they are open to discussing payment plans, an ideal thing for clients that are on a tight budget.

Pros

  • Positive & Science Based Dog Training
  • Specializes in problem behaviors
  • Free consultation
  • Certified and educated VSPDT

Cons

  • Operating hours unavailable

Another dog training company we’d like to recommend is Sit Down & Beyond Dog Training.

It’s ran by Shuli and he is passionate about helping dogs and humans live in harmony.

What we like about his approach is it’s positive and science-based type of training, which proven to be the only reliable and long-lasting training method for dogs.

He specializes in problem behaviors such as excessive barking, resource guarding, leash pulling & reactivity, jumping, bad greeting etiquette, aggression, and more.

He also offers a free 15-minute consultation to talk more about your dog and what you need help with.

We can vouch for his ability to get dogs to quickly improve with only just a few sessions. He’s an extremely talented trainer, that’s for sure.

We like how he knows how to get owners to better understand their dogs.

So if you ever want to have a better relationship with your dogs, we highly recommend bringing them to Shuli!
