Pros

  • Open daily
  • Thousands of hardwood flooring options
  • Great showroom location
  • Competitive prices

Cons

  • Possible communication hiccups
  • Uses subcontractors

The company Simple Floors lives up to its name by making hardwood flooring projects as convenient as possible for its clients.

The contractor offers a wealth of hardwood flooring options, carefully sorted by type, wood species, color tones, and surface designs.

We love that they have a list and samples online, as these help clients get a rough idea of the options available. Browsing options before booking their service also prevents overwhelm caused by a sheer number of choices.

Simple Floors’ showroom location is also easily accessible, so you have the option to visit the shop and see the sample boards up close. The best part is that you can take home selected samples so you can check if it matches your home decor.

And if you want some help with design, Simple Floors has a dedicated team that will recommend the best selections for your goals.

That said, we see a little problem with the company’s extensive hardwood floor selection.

Simple Floors work with many suppliers to provide the flooring you want, but working with several companies can result in scheduling issues and inconsistent performance.

Moreover, the company hires subcontractors for the installation, which may not sit well with clients who prefer the main service provider to be 100% accountable should there be problems.

We recommend hiring Simple Floors if you’re comfortable with the hardwood flooring suppliers they work with.

Pros

  • Long-standing reputation
  • Wide range of hardwood floor options
  • Also offers energy-saving window coverings
  • Accredited by the Better Business Bureau (BBB)

Cons

  • Possible delayed responses
  • Uses subcontractors

It’s no doubt that Macadam Floor & Design is one of the best-known hardwood flooring contractors in Portland—and for good reasons.

The company has been in the business for over 30 years and has established a strong reputation in Portland and surrounding areas.

We love that Macadam maintained a generally good standing throughout the period, evident by their A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau.

Macadam offers several types of hardwood flooring including solid, engineered, prefinished, and unfinished.

We appreciate that you can consult the company for the best materials that fit your decor and budget. Plus, you can request a free estimate, making things more convenient.

What we think needs a little tuning up is Macadam’s customer service side. It’s expected that the company will receive many requests for estimates, as they’re popular, but there are times when the service desk can’t keep up.

Aside from delayed responses, some clients reported inconsistency in service quality. The issue is mostly brought up when the installation is performed by subcontractors.

Thankfully, these things rarely happen. But if they do happen to you, we recommend reaching out to the company by visiting them personally.

Pros

  • Focused on hardwood flooring
  • Responsive and accommodating
  • Convenient full-service setup
  • Can also do baseboard and countertop installation

Cons

  • Might be a little pricey
  • No flooring brands featured on website

Hardwood flooring is an expensive project, so Rejuvenation Floor & Design makes sure you can get the most out of it when you hire them.

After all, the 10+-year-old company offers full-service flooring. That means they offer design consultation, demolition, site prep, and installation.

Rejuvenation focuses on hardwood flooring, which is good news for clients who prefer specialists to handle their home projects. That said, we appreciate that the company also offers laminate and vinyl flooring to cater to more budget-conscious homeowners.

We also love that you can consult the company for tips should you decide to install hardwood flooring on your own.

We only think it a bit inconvenient that Rejuvenation didn’t include a list of flooring brands on their website. Doing so would have made it easier for prospective clients to decide whether to hire them or not.

And since it specializes in hardwood flooring, you would need to hire someone else for other floor options such as carpet and tile.

That might be a hassle to some, and we recommend checking out more diverse companies if you prefer working with a single service provider.

Pros

  • Does residential and commercial projects
  • Easy-to-understand online catalog
  • Wide range of products
  • Beautiful showroom

Cons

  • Might be difficult to reach at times
  • Busy schedule may affect project time line

Clients with residential and commercial flooring projects will appreciate The Floor Store’s wide range of services.

Beyond hardwood, they offer carpet, tiles, and linoleum for residential flooring. If you own a business, you can use the company’s rubber, bamboo, and cork options for specialty areas such as offices, restaurants, and gyms.

We appreciate that the company has its hardwood catalog posted online. The catalog is sorted by species, construction type, look, and even installation type.

We love it because it brings the convenience of the showroom to you, requiring nothing but a few clicks.

Of course, you can visit the showroom if you prefer to check the materials up close. We believe you won’t regret the visit, as The Floor Store’s place is highly accessible, organized, and gorgeous.

Hiring The Floor Store can pose some disadvantages, though. Customer service can test one’s patience, especially when you’re waiting for your free estimates or response for aftersales requests.

The company is also busy compared to other flooring stores, so project schedules might be pushed back. If you’re on a tight deadline, shopping around will hopefully give you more options.

Pros

  • Champions environmental awareness
  • Typically uses their own installers
  • Usually responsive
  • Offers free in-home estimates

Cons

  • Might use subcontractors if too busy
  • Reclaimed hardwood flooring tend to be pricier

If you want to minimize your environmental impact but still prefer hardwood as your flooring, ECOFloors is a company you should consider.

The contractor works with suppliers that observe sustainable manufacturing of hardwood, such as Kahrs and Hallmark Floors.

That said, expect that you can have eco-friendly options such as reclaimed and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified materials.

The company also has a team of installers that you can count on to observe National Wood Flooring Association (NFWA) guidelines. Suffice to say that ECOFloors can execute quality flooring works.

However, we would have loved it more had ECOFloors included an at-a-glance catalog of hardwood products on their website. We think the current setup of redirecting prospective clients to the manufacturer’s site can be confusing.

Also, ECOFloors would have to hire subcontractors now and then when they’re fully booked. While the company gets behind its subcontractors, some clients might find it a downside.
