The Top 5 Midwives in Portland

The Top 5 Midwives in Portland

How We Picked the Top Midwives in Portland

Customer Service

It is important for childbirth to be as stress-free as possible for you. Considering that, we heavily relied on how pleasant the whole experience was with the assigned midwife from contacting them up to the postnatal.

Feedback

We collected which one has the most satisfied customers based on people’s personal experiences.

Professionalism

We included midwifery services in our list that proved their knowledge, competence, efficiency, and experience with childbirth.

Experience

We thought it was also important to note if the midwifery we picked met or exceeded our and their other clients’ expectations.

Pros

  • Available 24/7 to clients
  • Empathetic and professional midwives
  • Trouble-free process

Cons

  • Has negative reviews about delivering sensitive news over email

Giving birth is no easy feat and it usually comes with a lot of unease and concern, especially for new-to-be moms.

We included this in our list of top midwifery in Portland because we like how they can be contacted easily 24/7.

Other moms think so too because a lot of them told us how they felt more relaxed because of this feature. We think that this builds more trust between moms and midwives, which is important because they’re being entrusted with such an important job!

A lot of messages we received about this also told us that whenever complications arose during delivery, they were quite quick on their feet and offered suggestions and information to help them and their partner make the final decision.

They also offer childbirth education which means you and your partner could learn more about labor – from the anatomy, expectations, comfort measures, and interventions.

This will help you be more prepared when the child comes.

What we’re kind of iffy about is that some previous customers left negative reviews about how this midwifery delivered sensitive news over email. If this is something that you have an aversion to, this might not be for you.

Overall, if you’re looking for a place where you can develop a relationship with your midwife and learn more about labor, we believe this is a top contender.

Pros

  • Free consultation
  • Genuine support from the midwife and the team
  • Appointments felt intimate and personal
  • No negative reviews online

Cons

  • Only accessible 24/7 for urgent matters during prenatal and postpartum

Another thing we’d like to add to our list of top midwives in Portland is this. We like how welcoming they are because you can feel their genuine support throughout the entire process.

Their goal is to make you feel safe and empowered during childbirth and this is exactly what we felt and other people who tried this.

Another advantage to choosing this midwifery is that they don’t discriminate towards clients who are non-native English speakers. We received a few messages regarding this and felt it was important to add because it shows their values as a healthcare provider.

We appreciate how they put their midwives’ pronouns in their website. We often consider this as a sign that companies appreciate diversity and progressiveness rather than avoiding it.

They mix science and spirituality quite well, but depending on your beliefs, this could be a hit or miss.

One more thing that attracted us to this company is that we couldn’t find negative reviews of them online or in our inbox.

Having said that, we do think that being reachable 24/7 only to urgent matters could be a disadvantage to some especially if you want someone to answer your concerns promptly.

Pros

  • Has experience working with diverse clients
  • Supportive and dedicated team
  • Can refer you to a lot of care providers postnatal

Cons

  • Has negative reviews about attitude

We love this midwifery’s personalized plans because it encompasses fertility to postpartum needs.

A lot of people feel at ease in choosing them because they also have experience working with diverse clients with different backgrounds, body types, sexual orientation, gender identity, ethnicities, and more.

We believe it’s a plus because you’re assured that you’re giving birth under the hands of people who can provide a peaceful and judgment-free environment.

We’ve received a few messages about people who couldn’t go through with home birth and needed to be taken to a hospital, but their assigned midwife still stayed by their side throughout the whole procedure.

We love this because you know you’re still going to be cared for even though there could be unforeseen changes.

Another thing we love about this is that they can refer you to several care providers that would help ensure a comfortable postnatal experience. We think this is something that new moms tend to have a hard time looking for because they have yet to build a network.

They are a small practice and depending on you, this could be a make or break. They did mention that this is how they become more familiarized with each of their clients, making the experience even more personalized.

We also saw a negative review online about the attitude of the midwife, so do consider that when choosing what is best for you.

Pros

  • Offers a “no-charge ultrasound”
  • A company who cares about the environment
  • Allows bringing children during birth as long as with adult supervision

Cons

  • Negative reviews online about being inattentive during consultation and being billed incorrectly

We included this to our list of top midwives in Portland because we admire their birth center.

You will be provided a list of things to bring there at the start of your 3rd trimester. The birth center is close to their transport hospitals, so you don’t have to worry about any sort of emergencies.

They will then put you in either rooms 1 and 2 – your choice! –  where you’ll do a practice session and run-through of the birthing process.

We value the importance of practice sessions because we believe the more ready you are, the less anxious you will be on the actual day of your childbirth! And is there such a thing as too ready when it comes to this?

Another advantage to choosing this midwifery is that during postpartum, they will also take care of your partner by providing you both with nutritious food in bed. This is something we don’t hear about a lot.

We love that they will also include your partner during postnatal care because they need it too!

Something to consider before choosing this midwifery is that there are a few reviews about people being billed incorrectly. Some of them didn’t even hear back from them afterwards.

We do think that this is something to be considered because giving birth is not a cheap procedure. What comes after that is even more expensive.

All things considered, we still think that this midwifery is a wise choice if you’re looking for a place that provides unique and comfortable care for you and your partner.

Pros

  • Open 24 hours
  • Home visits during 1 day, 3 days, and 1 week postpartum
  • Insurance billing available
  • Provides pregnancy and birth photo packages

Cons

  • Has a negative review about a midwife being insensitive

We added this to our list because of the additional services they provide such as their photo packages, STI testing and birth control counseling, as well as placenta encapsulation.

We don’t see these services being offered a lot together with birth plans so we thought it was a nice touch.

We also received quite a few messages from first time moms who had great experiences with this. We think so too because they answered all our inquiries and made sure we were well informed about what goes on before, during, and after childbirth.

As part of their prenatal services, you and your partner will be provided all needed information that would help birthing become an easier procedure.

You’ll both learn more about birthing positions, pain coping techniques, and the physiological process of birthing. We love this because it helps moms become less anxious about the birthing.

We were kind of thrown off by the comment of a mom who received insensitive remarks from the midwife assigned to her for being too young.

We think that when choosing a midwife, it’s best to choose someone who is free of judgment. This is an important factor to consider before you make a decision.

Overall, we believe that this is worth checking out, especially if you’re a first-time mom.
