Established in 1928, Portland Sand & Gravel Co. stood the test of time thanks to its staff’s exceptional customer service. Their dedication is reflected in the personal touch and meticulous attention to detail they provide. Everyone I encountered was incredibly friendly and helpful.

They are well-regarded for their pea gravel, which many customers appreciate for its uniformity and cleanliness. It’s free from excessive debris, making it ideal for landscaping projects, pathways, and play areas.

Another standout feature is their focus on sustainability. You can drop off concrete, asphalt, and clean dirt for recycling, which is awesome if you’re looking to be more eco-friendly with your projects.

They also offer a wide range of products, from sand to bark dust, all at reasonable prices. The delivery service is spot-on. They’re known for being prompt and accommodating, which is a huge plus if you’re on a tight schedule.

One downside, though, is that the prices are bit high compared to other stores. While the quality does make up for the prices, it might not be the best choice for those on a tight budget.

“Friendly service, helpful answering questions about the products even down to the pH and source of materials. The split truck deliveries are a plus, I ordered 5 yards total, 3 compost, and 2 of the pumice blend. Delivery costs are reasonable, see pic for size comparison with a 1.5 cu.ft. bag – definitely more economical to bulk order soil for raised beds, large planters and/or to amend yard soil. “All About Stone is wonderful. They have a great selection of gravel, stone, rocks and pavers; and also a great team. Most recently we ordered several pallets of pavers for our yard. The staff was super helpful, but a miscommunication did occur that could have caused us a major inconvenience and expense. However, the owner called personally and helped figure out a solution. Plus, they are also the go-to place for firewood in the area. As the largest local provider, they’ve built a solid reputation for reliability and quality in this department.

Their sustainability efforts, like operating a public soil and garden waste recycling center, are also commendable.

“We recently ordered firewood to be delivered from Deans. We could not be happier with our experience!! The customer service at every step was exceptional! When the truck arrived the driver was super friendly and even backed in our driveway to make it easier for us to move and stack in our garage.
