Top 5 Podiatrists in Portland

Top 5 Podiatrists in Portland

How we picked

Expertise

You want your doctors to be board certified and have the appropriate clinic experience. This is based on a doctor or clinic’s qualifications and years in practice.

Approach

It’s important to have a doctor you deem as approachable and friendly. We chose podiatrists who have a good bedside manner with their patients.

Staff Attitude

Doctors still need nurses and assistants to keep their practice running smoothly. We chose clinics whose staff are attentive and helpful to the patients they see.

Payment Options

It’s advantageous if your practitioner accepts Medicare, Medicaid, or other private and public insurance plans. This is based on how many insurance plans a clinic accepts.

Pros

  • Flexible scheduling
  • Can accommodate same-day appointments for emergencies
  • Helpful office staff and nurses
  • Straightforward approach

Cons

  • Doctors can be late for appointments
  • Some patients complaining of inadequate care received

Broadway Foot & Ankle Clinic has two attending podiatrists in its clinic, namely Dr. Gina Bullock and Dr. Elliot Michael.

The biggest advantage their clinic has is their flexible scheduling. This means you don’t have to wait for long before you get an appointment, but they can also accommodate same-day appointments for emergencies.

However, the doctors have a tendency to show up late for their appointments, which leads to appointments being delayed. Some patients have noted they’ve had to wait an hour or two past their original set time just to wait for their doctor.

The attending doctors are straightforward in their approach, which means appointments have no added frills and go direct to the point.

Many patients appreciate this kind of approach to healthcare, but others prefer doctors who are a bit more hands-on. Each patient will have their own preferences, so if this isn’t what you prefer, then other options on this list may be a better choice.

We have to note that there were some patients who reported that they felt as though they didn’t receive enough care from their providers.

Some said that they felt their concerns were being dismissed, with some claiming they felt they were given the wrong treatment plan for their condition.

These were, however, only a few complaints and don’t represent the majority of the patients we’ve spoken to. Overall, we still consider Drs. Bullock and Michael to competent practitioners who can care for their patients well.

Pros

  • Good listener
  • Friendly approach
  • Easy to set appointments
  • Appointments aren’t rushed
  • Has X-ray in clinic

Cons

  • Limited insurance plans accepted
  • Doesn’t use email

The Oregon Foot Clinic currently only has one attending doctor, Dr. Kevin Driscoll. He’s had extensive training and experience in podiatry and does reconstructive surgery as well.

His patients appreciate his friendly approach and say they felt welcome the moment they entered his clinic. He’s thorough in his diagnoses and doesn’t rush appointments.

He also explains the conditions well to his patients and doesn’t pressure them into making a decision right away. This is especially important to patients who may need surgery or long-term care for their conditions.

Another thing we like is how easy it is to set an appointment in his clinic. You can set your appointments online through their website and confirmation will be given through a phone call.

Other than this, his clinic can be old-fashioned when it comes to communication. They don’t use email, and should you require any paperwork from them for insurance, you’ll have to get it faxed, mailed, or visit them personally to get it.

This has been an inconvenience to some, and we think it’s an unnecessary nuisance for patients to go through, especially considering they already have online services like patient portals and online payments.

As for insurance, they list down eight accepted insurance plans, but it’s possible they take others outside of that list. However, we still encourage you to call ahead and ask, as this has led to some conflicts with patients before.

Pros

  • Accepts payment plans
  • Many years of experience
  • Kind staff
  • Good record of patient loyalty
  • Can see pediatric patients

Cons

  • Tends to be busy
  • Charges a no-show fee

Mt. Tabor Podiatry is owned and run by Dr. Chris Seuferling. He separates his time between this clinic and another one in Scappoose.

He’s got nearly 20 years of experience in the field and can take patients of any age. He can take in pediatric patients, and he’s also a member of the Podiatric Association for Diabetes and sees diabetic patients regularly.

Many of his patients have been with him for several years, with a number having been his patient for over a decade. Other than his expertise, patients are appreciative of his bedside manner, saying he’s friendly and approachable.

Patients report that they immediately feel comfortable in his clinic, and the staff and his nurses are helpful in welcoming the patient to his clinic.

Dr. Seuferling also wants his patients to get the care they need, and the staff can even design a payment plan that can fit your budgetary needs.

His clinic welcomes emergency calls, but it’s unsure as to whether the doctor can see you right away, as he does tend to be busy. We think it’s still worth the call, and you can let his staff know if you require immediate care to see what they can do.

But if you’re going to cancel your appointment, be sure to do it at least 24 hours prior. If you fail to do so within that time frame, you may be charged a no-show fee.

Pros

  • Offers telehealth options
  • Attentive doctor
  • Can accommodate emergency cases
  • Has online patient portal

Cons

  • Limited insurance plans accepted
  • Tends to be busy

Sellwood Podiatry is a small clinic with one attending doctor, Dr. Brandi Myers. She has become famous with her patients and is the reason why patients go out of their way to see her.

Because of the size of her clinic, they can only entertain one person at a time and patients need to wait in their car for their appointment. She’s strictly on a by-appointment basis, and emergency cases can be squeezed in on the same day.

To counter this, she does offer telehealth options, which are more convenient especially if you’re seeking a follow-up or don’t need a physical evaluation.

A huge drawback to her clinic is that they have limited insurance plans accepted, and it’s best for you to call and confirm if they take your insurance before you set an appointment.

However, Dr. Myers is passionate about giving affordable healthcare to her patients, and we’ve even spoken to some patients who said they’d rather pay out of pocket for her fees than choose a podiatrist in their network!

Her current rates for those out of network are $125 for the first visit and $75 for follow-up. This doesn’t include any additional fees from examinations or assessments you may take.

Despite this, her clinic remains busy, and it will take a couple of weeks before you get an appointment. Thus, we can only recommend her if you’re willing to wait and don’t have an urgent case that needs to be seen by a doctor immediately.

Pros

  • Offers telehealth options
  • Conservative approach
  • Friendly doctor and staff
  • Explains well
  • Thorough diagnosis

Cons

  • Limited insurance plans accepted
  • Minor complaints on orthotics made

Eastside Foot & Ankle has two clinics in Oregon, one in Portland and one in Gresham. The Portland clinic has one attending doctor, Dr. Brian Bowen.

Dr. Bowen has been in practice for over 10 years now and is mostly conservative in his approach. While also a surgeon, he only suggests surgery when a condition will best benefit from it.

For his more conservative approaches, Dr. Bowen helps his patients maintain an active lifestyle to be able to maintain the health of the foot and ankle.

His patients appreciate how well he explains their conditions to them and ensures they know as much as they could about their condition. This way, patients understand the diagnosis and know how they can go along with it.

The staff in the clinic are friendly as well and assist the patient as much as they can. They’re especially helpful if you need assistance with insurance billing because they only accept limited insurance plans.

We still advise you to check your insurance even if Eastside is in your network because your insurance may not cover everything. This has led to some patients covering for some out-of-pocket fees that they weren’t aware of beforehand.

We haven’t heard too many complaints about him or his clinic, but one was about the custom orthotics they had made that came out in the wrong size. However, the clinic staff was cooperative in sorting out the issue for the patient.
