The 5 Best Room Rental Services in Portland
How We Picked
Quality of Surroundings
We know how important it is for the area surrounding your apartment to be of quality standard. That’s why we also considered safety and cleanliness when choosing the best room rentals.
Accessibility
We also took into account how easy it was to go there by public transportation and how easy it was to find it.
Cost
Not only did we consider the price by itself, but we also thought about the price for its location and how nice the room was. This was also weighed against the average price for similar lodgings in the area.
Customer Service
To ensure an easier renting experience, we considered the expertise and attitude of the agents as well as the renting process.

Pros
- Quick to respond to maintenance requests
- Has a lot of listings available from different neighborhoods
- Donates 5% of their annual profit to charities
- Recycles and buys 100% renewable energy
- Offers city tours
Cons
- Sometimes don’t answer their phone calls
One of the reasons we included Living Room Property Management on our list of best room rentals in Portland is because of how easy it was to work with them.
What caught our eye were the reviews we got from their previous tenants saying how well-taken-care-of they felt during their whole stay with them.
They have this team of fixers whom you can contact to do any repairs you might have in your rental. Depending on what needs fixing, they were usually done in a few days.
We think this is something to keep in mind because we often have a hard time looking for maintenance people we can trust.
At least with Living Room Property Management, you already know they get the job done for you.
They have a lot of listings to choose from in different neighborhoods, so you don’t have to worry about running out of options.
All you have to do is contact an agent and tell them what you’re looking for. They’ll give you options in no time.
If you’re reading this with intentions of moving to Portland, they also offer city tours customized just for you.
Moreover, we love how they made a wise switch to being more green. They recycle and buy 100% renewable energy.
If you’re passionate about being environmental, you might just like to rent your next place here.
One thing we’d like to note is we received a few reviews about them not answering calls fast or not answering at all.
This could be an issue in the future, especially if you want to contact them about something important, so we think it’s also wise to consider this.
Considering that, we still think it’s worthwhile to check out Living Room Property Management if you’re still unsure what you’re looking for since they have a lot of options.
We also think it’s perfect for those who don’t want a lot of fuss when they need maintenance with their rentals.

Pros
- Short-term leases are available
- The lobby and the elevators are sanitized every day
- Friendly staff
- Management is responsive
Cons
- Rent is expensive
- The area can be a little noisy
- Some people had problems with the amenities
MW8 Apartments says combining convenience with quality is their niche and we believe that to be the case.
This is perfect for Portland State University students because the school is just two blocks away.
That being said, this place doesn’t just cater to students.
It’s also near Portland Streetcar, MAX Light Rail, TriMet bus stops, and the downtown TriMet Transit Center. This will surely make your commute much easier.
If you’re flying in from somewhere else, with the MAX Light Rail, they’ll pick you up and drop you off at the building.
We also appreciate their cleanliness because they sanitize the public areas often.
The staff in the building was friendly and a lot of previous tenants seem to think so too. A few mentioned how they made them feel at home and welcome.
Another thing we think is convenient is if you have any concerns, the management is responsive.
Since the area is in a prime location where you can easily access different areas in the city, it can get quite noisy. The rent is quite expensive too, which is something to be expected.
We also think it’s important to note that we received complaints about their amenities, such as the washing machine breaking often, or the dryer being too hot.
Overall, we highly recommend this to students who don’t want long commutes or to people new in town and would like to meet new people.
We think it’s not best for young professionals who want a more private space.

Pros
- Agents were accommodating
- The renting process was easy
Cons
- Some complaints about strict screening requirements
Grid is a property management firm that focuses on providing full-service management and leasing services for condominium, single-family, and multi-family properties
This made it to our list of best room rentals in Portland because a lot of their tenants applauded how easy it was to move in.
From looking for a room to signing the lease, the process was quick and painless with the help of their agents.
We find this to be a plus because we know how stressful moving can be, so we appreciate how they were accommodating their tenants’ needs.
We can’t help but agree because we were clueless at the start, but the agent provided us with information that helped us with our decision.
We also want to mention that it was easy to pay rent because of their online option.
It was also easy to request maintenance because after voicing our concern, they got back to us quickly with a solution.
However, we’d like to note that we received a few complaints about their strict screening requirements, meaning it might be hard to get in unless you fulfill all of them.
They might not be what you’re looking for if you’re looking for an easier application process.
Altogether, we still believe Grid is a worthy contender to consider if you’re looking for a place in Portland especially if you want a quick and painless process.

Pros
- Pet friendly
- Walkable neighborhood
- Professional team
Cons
- There were a few complaints about some units’ ACs and heaters
Rivage Apartments’ amenities are, well, pretty damn good.
There are courtyards, a fitness center, a yoga/Pilates studio, and a rooftop deck. There’s also a community lounge equipped with everything you might need such as Wi-Fi, game tables, TVs, and more.
Moreover, they also have reserved parking, electric vehicle charging stations, Vivint Smart Home security systems, and bike washing storage and maintenance.
They have a studio, and a one and a two-bedroom home, giving you ample options depending on what you need.
If you’re looking for something more luxurious, you’ll likely love this place.
And pet owners and lovers – this might just be the place for you. At Rivage, they allow you to bring your furry friend with you to your new home.
We understand that it’s quite hard to find a perfect place that also allows pets, so we were happy that they are pet-friendly.
This place is smoke-free, but depending on the individual that might be a positive or a negative thing.
If you want a tour, just give them a call. They’re pretty flexible on their tour schedules.
A lot of people who left us messages said the team went out of its way to ensure their needs. We couldn’t help but say the same thing because we also love how professional the team is from the front office to the agents.
We also received a few complaints about the AC and the heater not working properly which made winter and summer quite dreadful.
Since management was easy to reach, we believe this can be easily fixed.
Considering everything, we like Rivage Apartments and its unique amenities that add convenience to everyday life.

Pros
- Has a resident portal on its website for convenience
- The view from the rooftop is stunning
- Pet friendly
- Great amenities
Cons
- Has a negative review of the service
Here’s another apartment building that we love because of its delightful amenities and convenient systems.
They have a resident portal that can be accessed on their website. That’s how you can access information regarding gym sign-ups, rent, and more.
We love this because having a site to go to to check everything you need makes life so much easier.
Aside from being pet-friendly, they also have a private indoor dog run where your canines can play.
Other convenient touches to their community area are their fitness center, co-working and private conference room spaces, 24-hour concierge, the rooftop deck where there’s also a grilling station, and more.
We particularly love the view from the rooftop deck, especially during sunset which reminded us how stunning Portland is.
Amenities in apartments include a balcony, additional storage, a washer/dryer, floor-to-ceiling windows, air conditioning, and such.
You have the option to rent not only their one and two-bedroom apartments, but they also have available penthouse homes.
While everything seems promising, we do like to note that we got a few notes regarding their poor service, specifically the concierge.
It’s most likely that they’ve already changed their concierge, so it might not be something to worry about, but still, a point to consider.
Nevertheless, we were still impressed by the views and the amenities this place offers.
