The 5 Best Cat Grooming Places in Portland

The 5 Best Cat Grooming Places in Portland

How We Picked

Reliability

One of the things we considered when adding grooming places to our list is their reliability. This includes their knowledge, credentials, and years in the business. This is to make sure that your pet is in good hands.

Service

We think it’s also important to include grooming places that have a nice service so that both you and your pet can be happy. We kept in mind how good they are at handling pets and how friendly they are.

Space

Lastly, we also considered the space by keeping in mind their equipment and cleanliness.

Pros

  • Good at handling nervous cats
  • Prices are reasonable
  • Fast groomers
  • Owner has 17 years of grooming experience

Cons

  • Some comments about poor customer service

We added Heather’s Finest Dog and Cat Grooming to our list of best cat grooming places in Portland because of how good they are at handling different kinds of cat personalities.

Whether your cat is always nervous or doesn’t like strangers touching them, Heather can still find a way to work with them.

We think this is because of her 17 years of experience. Throughout the years, she has developed an instinct that helps her understand a pet’s behavior with also the help of body language.

She can groom all breeds of cats and dogs and can do standard breed and specialty cuts.

When we had a chat with fellow cat parents who had already tried out this place, most of them commented on the groomer’s terrific work.

In listing down most of what they’ve said, we’ll start with the grooming itself.

They said that their fur babies left Heather’s Finest Dog and Cat Grooming smelling so good.

The groomers also achieved the cut needed for their pets.

As for the location, they said it was quite accessible. We think that there was also enough parking in the area, considering this is Downtown Portland.

Another point we’d like to add is that the groomer cares about the wellness of our pets. She made sure to provide a peaceful environment for them by making sure it’s not too crowded to lessen the nose.

Their appointment slots tend to fill up pretty quickly, so we also suggest making an advanced schedule with them to avoid the hassle.

However, during our interview with their past clients, we also heard some negative reviews. It was usually about their customer service.

A lot of them said that the establishment didn’t answer the phone quickly. Sometimes they don’t answer at all.

Some experienced having their appointment canceled at the last minute.

We think these are important points to consider before taking your business to Heather’s Finest Dog and Cat Grooming.

However, we still think that they’re worth recommending because of how good they are at handling pets who are usually too stressed when being groomed.

Pros

  • Have been around since 1996
  • $10 off promo for new clients (at the time of writing)
  • Easy to schedule an appointment

Cons

  • Pricey

We think a list of pet grooming services would be incomplete without a mobile van option. So, it’s a good thing we came across Aussie Pet Mobile SW Portland Metro.

Wondering about the name? They have Australian roots but their business grew and that’s how they came to open franchises in the United States.

What caught our attention is their convenience. We didn’t need to drive to go to a pet grooming salon miles away because they can easily come to our front door.

We also think that our pets were well taken care of because they give their full undivided attention throughout the grooming session.

Moreover, we were also quite satisfied with how they do their cat grooming.

They offer a 15-step spa treatment for cats, which includes clipping nails, brushing/massaging in a hydrobath, brushing out knots and debris, and so on.

When we tracked down some of their clients to see what they think, many praised the service, saying their pets came out looking clean and fresh.

We have to say that we experienced the same thing. Our cats turned looking like a million bucks!

A lot of them also mentioned that their pets were quite calm throughout the process, so they didn’t need to be sedated.

We think this helps in making your pet’s grooming experience as stress-free as possible for them.

While there were a lot of good points to highlight, we also thought about something to consider.

They’re pricier than most groomers – probably because there’s an additional charge for things such as gas to get to your place.

We think that this is completely reasonable, but if you’re on a tight budget, this might not be what you’re looking for.

However, if you’re in a need of a little more convenience, go ahead and give Aussie Pet Mobile a call.

Pros

  • Easy to book an appointment online

Cons

  • Only accept cats who have been to the groomer before

If you want a faster process in terms of setting an appointment, we recommend Pretty Paws & Claws.

On their easy-to-navigate website, you can set up an appointment, choose what services you’d like to avail of, and even select any preferred groomer.

We appreciate that they also included the estimated time it will take for each service. There is, however, no price estimate.

We think this is because it depends on the pets and how much work they need done.

The cat grooming services they offer are nail trimming and lion cuts. Pretty much standard fare.

As for the value of their offerings, they seem good. When we had a chat with some of their previous customers, we found out that most of them go here because of the quality service.

A lot of them said their pets seemed to be extra calm and the groomers’ professionalism was worthy of praise.

We couldn’t help but mirror the same sentiments. When we took our cats to Pretty Paws & Claws, they were able to do exactly what we asked for.

They also didn’t fail to give us updates, which we think is also a factor to consider when looking for a pet groomer.

We think this is something that pet owners also appreciate, especially if it’s their first time taking their pets there. This will make them worry less when they are assured that their pets are in good hands.

Though, if this is your cat’s first time to be groomed, they are unfortunately not what you’re looking for.

They only accept cats who have already been to other groomers. This may be because they prefer cats that are used to being handled by strangers already.

Overall, if you already have previous experience having your cat groomed by other professionals, we don’t see why you shouldn’t check out Pretty Paws & Claws.

Pros

  • Very wide variety of services available

Cons

  • Not the most budget-friendly

Cats in The City is a cat hotel and spa that also has grooming services.

What we love the most about them is the variety they offer. Under their grooming services, there are several categories of care – fur, nails, fleas, ear, nose & mouth, and others.

From matted shaves, de-shedding, and nail trims, to flea medications, ear flush, and antifungal baths, they can do it all for your cat.

We also found it quite easy to make a reservation with them because a form was easily available on their website.

Furthermore, they also have other helpful services such as the one that’s called “Cat Travel Agent”.

They will help you provide everything your cat will need to move with you to your new home. This includes health certificates, travel arrangements, air transportation, and more.

They also do cat sitting if you don’t have anyone to watch your cat for you while you’re away from home.

We love these services because we find them to be quite handy. It’s a bit like a one-stop-shop for cat owner services.

In regards to their other customers, a few of them highlighted the same thing – that Cats in The City provided a very detailed description of what they were going to do.

A few of them mentioned that Cats in the City was also able to cater to them on very short notice.

We think that if you need your cat groomed as soon as possible, this place is truly worth checking out. However, we’d also like to point out that they are not the most budget-friendly option.

Pros

  • Have a self-wash option
  • Offer affordable and nutritious pet food

Cons

  • Some reviews about their poor customer service

We understand that sometimes you want to be the one to groom your pets. However, there might be some problems as to why this could be impossible… such as not having the right facilities for it.

One of the reasons why we love Nature’s Pet Market & Grooming St Johns is they can cater exactly to this specific problem.

They can provide shampoos, all-natural products, towels, waist-high tubs with ramps or steps, brushes, and air dryers. All you need to bring is you and your pet.

You don’t need to worry about having a hard time learning how to use their stuff because, in our experience, they thoroughly explain how.

Of course, if you prefer someone to groom your pet for you, their professional groomers can also do that.

To set an appointment, all you need to do is give them a call. We found them to be quite responsive so it was an easy process that took a minute or two.

Aside from their grooming services, they also sell nutritious pet food. There are several options available such as raw, dry, freeze-dry and dehydrated, and wet food.

We only got to buy the dry food, but it seemed like our cat thoroughly enjoyed it. That being said, we don’t mind purchasing it again.

We also found the staff to be quite knowledgeable because they also gave us advice on how to better take care of our fur baby.

Additionally, we would also like to note that their facilities are quite clean. Their previous customers who we also had a chat with said the same thing – even when it came to their self-wash area.

However, there were also comments about their poor customer service. Some customers said that a few staff members were rude.

We think this could be a rare occurrence or perhaps the staff was already replaced, but we do think this is also worth keeping in mind.

Overall, we recommend Nature’s Pet Market & Grooming St Johns for their facilities because we believe it can help make pet owners’ lives much easier.
