Pros

  • Impressive five-year warranty on works
  • Wide range of services
  • Uses eco-friendly solutions and materials
  • Also installs solar panels

Cons

  • A bit on the expensive side
  • Occasionally delayed responses

Clients who prefer experienced service providers will understandably gravitate toward the Neil Kelly Company. After all, it has been in service since the 1940s, keeping its reputation intact until today.

We love that with their range of services, you can virtually entrust your whole home to the company. They remodel kitchens, bathrooms, and basements; do exterior remodeling; and have experts (carpenters included) who can take on the job efficiently.

What we like best is that they can help you realize your dream accessory dwelling unit (ADU). If you have a large enough property and you want to add space for guests, family, or income generation, they have a design ready for you.

We also appreciate that Neil Kelly provides a five-year warranty on its work. Placing such an ambitious clause in their service shows that the company is confident with what it can do.

As for clients, it’s sure to provide peace of mind for a few years.

We only think Neil Kelly could use some improvement on its customer service side. We would appreciate it if they can ensure that they get back to prospective clients asking for estimates, even if they’re delayed sometimes due to being too busy.

We also think Neil Kelly needs to strengthen its responsiveness on aftersales requests, considering that they have a five-year warranty. Clients would like to make the most out of that impressive offer but only if they are heard and accommodated.

Pros

  • Wide range of restoration services
  • Helps with reaching out to your home insurance
  • 50-strong team of professionals
  • Usually responsive

Cons

  • Occasional communication hiccups
  • Might not be for total home transformation

Portland Construction Solutions is the ideal option if you want to restore parts of your home to their former glory following an accident or natural disaster.

Some of the problems they deal with include water damage, fire and smoke damage, and exterior issues caused by natural disasters. The team uses a systematic program to fix them and will even help you get in touch with your home insurance company.

While the company focuses on restoration, we’re impressed that they can also do the usual remodeling projects characteristic of Portland’s construction companies. You can hire them for flooring, cabinetry, countertops, windows, and siding, among others.

It helps that the company has a team of 50 professionals to do the wide range of work available.

It’s a bit disappointing how limited their website information is, though. There’s no online form for requesting estimates or consultation, so your only option is to call them, which can be difficult at times if they’re busy.

And because they’re focused on restoration, the company may not be the best choice if you want to transform your home completely.

3. Paul Cottle Construction LLC

Pros

  • Offers a wide range of remodeling and restoration services
  • Consistent Angi awardee
  • 30 years of industry experience
  • Also offers plumbing and electrical services

Cons

  • Company website could use an interface upgrade
  • Possible communication hiccups

Paul Cottle Construction is a company for those who need door and window installers on top of remodeling and restoration services.

We love that apart from the usual kitchen and bath projects, the company has professionals who can handle interior woodwork and trim, electrical and plumbing services, and hardwood flooring.

This diversity makes Paul Cottle a one-stop shop, which many clients prefer.

The 30-year-old local contractor is known for having most of its customers through referrals.

We think the classic word-of-mouth marketing that the company usually relies on sets them apart, as you need to be confident enough in your skills to pull off that type of strategy.

Despite being a low-key player, the company has managed to earn the Super Service Award recognition from Angi (formerly Angie’s List) from 2011 to 2019, further solidifying its reputation.

That said, we think that Paul Cottle could use some improvement on their website, especially on their gallery page.

The “before and after” photos are a good idea, but we believe prospective clients will appreciate the images more if they come in high definition.

You might also need to be patient when sending them your online request form, as the company might have some difficulties getting back to you if they’re too busy.

Pros

  • Handles the paperwork for ADU construction
  • Over 20 years of industry experience
  • Offers free estimates
  • Usually works efficiently and within schedule

Cons

  • Can be pricey
  • Showroom visits by appointment only

Full-phase construction projects may sound daunting. But thanks to Western Oregon Builders’ expertise, you can go through the stages—from conceptualization to finish—more conveniently.

Our favorite among their services is the accessory dwelling unit (ADU) construction. It’s most useful when you want to maximize your lot or add value to your property by constructing another livable space.

We like that when you hire Western Oregon Builders, they will take care of the permits and certificate of occupancy, leaving you to focus on your vision for your ADU.

The company also handles smaller projects, including iron rail installation, flooring, and trellis construction, allowing you more options to improve your home.

Of course, such projects can be a bit pricey, so clients with a tight budget may want to reconsider hiring the company.

Moreover, Western mainly sources its materials from its showroom. That said, there can be a possibility that the materials you want will not be available, which might result in outsourcing from other suppliers.

Pros

  • Specializes in siding and roofing
  • Usually responsive customer desk
  • Efficient project management
  • Siding options cater to all budgets

Cons

  • Limited siding and roofing suppliers
  • Occasional communication delays

While general contractors are great and all, specialty service providers are still strong contenders for several home project aspects. That said, KVN Construction can help if your concern involves your home siding and roofing.

The company has been serving Portland for over 20 years, maintaining an impressive reputation in the area since the early 2000s.

We believe you can trust the team with your siding and roofing needs, as they have a systematic way to do the job. For instance, you will work with a dedicated project manager to see the work through from start to finish.

Moreover, KVN uses only high-quality siding materials from James Hardie, complete with a 30-year warranty. As for roofing, you can count on the company’s partnership with Malarkey.

However, the limited brands mean prospective clients who prefer other suppliers might end up going elsewhere for their exterior projects.

KVN is also susceptible to communication hiccups, mostly due to being fully booked during the peak season. Though such problems rarely happen, we suggest preparing a bit of patience when trying to close a contract with the team.
