The 5 Best Piano Tuning Services in Portland

The 5 Best Piano Tuning Services in Portland

How We Picked

Pricing

We included piano tuning services that provide a reasonable budget. For this, we considered the cost along with the quality of service.

Credibility

For us to be able to include them on our list, we needed them to be credible. We based this on their expertise, skill, and specialization. We considered their overall knowledge of piano and the variety of pianos they can tune.

Availability

We think it’s important to be able to easily schedule with your piano tuning service provider, especially if there’s an emergency. That being said, we also considered their availability.

Service

Most people who have a piano have a go-to piano tuning service they frequent. Since this is a possible long-term professional relationship, we also considered how well they provide customer service by keeping in mind their attitude and responsiveness.

Pros

  • Responds fast
  • Affordable pricing
  • Very keen on details

Cons

  • Shorter years of experience compared to some

One of the reasons we included Seth Olson’s Piano Service in our list of best piano tuning services in Portland is because of how attentive he is to details.

Seth can fix problems that you probably wouldn’t notice, but when you try to play the piano again, you’d realize that the improvement is huge.

We think this is why when we sat down with his clients to see what they thought about the service offered, most of them said that their piano sounded better than before.

There were also a few clients who even witnessed Seth doing his magic with pianos that hadn’t been tuned in years.

So if your piano is severely out-of-tune, we think that you can trust that Seth will be able to make it sound new again.

Most of the clients also mentioned that the pricing was affordable and reasonable for the work he does.

To add our own experience with Seth, we loved that he explained the process step by step so we had an idea. It took about 1 ½ to 2 ½ hours, which is quite normal for piano tuning.

We know that this simply can’t be rushed if you want everything to be perfect.

While there were a lot of great things to be said about the clients and our experience, we noticed something that we felt should be pointed out.

His experience is not as long and extensive as some of the piano tuners out there, so this might be something you want to consider.

We added this because there might be certain issues that he doesn’t handle, but he can suggest people who can.

Overall, Seth Olson’s Piano Service provides great service and quality work, which makes them truly worth a recommendation.

Pros

  • Has many related services like repair and cleaning, etc.
  • Has tuning packages available
  • Easy to book via the website

Cons

  • A few customers complained about the pricing and responsiveness

The first thing that caught our eye when trying to learn more about Artisan Piano Services is that they also have other services available.

We included this as one of the positive things you can get from them because if you own a piano, it’s likely you’ll need those services soon.

We love the idea of being able to avail of different services under the same store to save you the hassle of trying to find someone else to trust with what you need.

Their other services include repair, cleaning, restoration, and even piano education. They were able to explain the extensive process that they will undergo for each service, which we think is also a plus.

They also have several packages available that go from half-day minor regulations to 2 days of full services.

It’s quite easy to book an appointment through their website because they have a form you can fill up.

When we had a chat with some of their clients, they commented on the expertise of the piano technicians under Artisan Piano Services.

Most of them mentioned this because the technicians would go to great lengths to do their work.

Some mentioned this because they were able to witness the skills of the technicians and were impressed by it.

However, there were a few who mentioned that the price came out more expensive than they thought.

Some said they didn’t hear back from Artisan Piano Services after giving them a call.

We think this is something to consider before choosing this service, however, we’d also like to note that most didn’t have any problems in this area.

That being said, we recommend Artisan Piano Services to anyone who is also in the market for something other than tuning.

We also recommend them to those who want to recondition all the original parts of their pianos.

Pros

  • Has a degree in piano performance
  • Has 18 years of experience
  • Minor repairs and cleaning is included
  • Punctual and great at communication

Cons

  • Tunes pianos longer than other technicians

We went out to have a face-to-face chat with A 440 Piano Tuning & Repair’s past clients to see what they had to say.

We asked them what they thought about the output, the service, the pricing, and other important details they thought were worth mentioning.

First, we found out that a lot of them were returning clients for years now.

When asked what made them return here, they said that it’s because Bob, the person behind A 440 Piano Tuning & Repair was skilled and efficient – all at a reasonable cost.

Moreover, they also said that Bob was pretty thorough, which we think is an important trait to have when doing technical work on pianos.

He also takes the time to answer whatever questions clients may have.

The clients we talked to also loved their little chats after Bob tunes their piano because they got to learn a thing or two.

We think it’s because he has been doing this for 18 years, so he already has numerous hands-on experiences that would make the service truly worth the cost.

Moreover, minor repairs and cleaning are already included, so you don’t have to worry about availing of a different service for that.

Additionally, he also has a degree in piano performance and has experience in teaching piano, so he knows a lot more than just tuning.

Clients also found him to be quite punctual and obviously, great at communicating.

However, Bob tunes pianos longer than most do. We thought this was important to note because it might be an issue for some.

That being said, we think the extra 30 minutes he adds to his service are worth your time if you’re looking for someone skilled and knowledgeable.

Pros

  • Has a wide range of services
  • Exceptional service quality/efficacy

Cons

  • Some clients told us about last-minute cancellations

If you’re looking for someone who’s been in the business for a long time, Michelle’s Piano has been operating since 1995.

They have a wide array of services being offered.

That’s why if you’re also someone who likes one-stop shops where you can get everything you need conveniently in one store, we think that they might be what you’re looking for.

From restoring old pianos to their original state and selling quality pianos for discounted prices to renting space to showcase your talents and moving your pianos, Michelle’s Piano can do it. Their other services also include piano storage and piano repair.

When it comes to asking for a price estimate, it’s easy to ask on their website. You can also request for them to call you back if you prefer that method of communication better.

They are quite responsive, which makes the process smoother.

The actual tuning was no exception. The technicians did their jobs efficiently and they were also great at communicating about what needed to be done.

Moreover, they are great at working with new and older pianos.

While a lot of the clients we interviewed were quite satisfied, some felt that they didn’t quite receive the level of customer service they should. There were a few who complained that there were canceled appointments at the last minute.

We understand that this could be quite frustrating, so we thought it should be noted for other people to consider when they’re trying to pick the perfect piano technician.

But all in all, we think that Michelle’s Piano has what you might need whether you’re a piano enthusiast, a professional pianist, or a piano newbie.

Pros

  • Also sells a lot of piano brands
  • Great service and easy process

Cons

  • Only has outsourced piano technicians

We think one of the charms of having your piano tuned by Portland Piano Company is that they have a lot of technicians in their contacts they can refer to you.

We think that for some other people, this could be something they’d be iffy about because how would they know they’re trustworthy if they’re not in-house technicians?

They have a variety of contacts which are all certified by the Piano Technicians Guild, so you don’t have to worry about credibility.

Portland Piano Company also doesn’t care where you purchased the piano from, they can still find someone who can get your piano tuned for you.

It’s very easy to ask for a quote on their website. You just have to fill up a short form with information about your pianos like the brand and the type.

When we reached out to some of the people who had first-hand experience when it comes to trusting Portland Piano Company, we asked them for their thoughts.

Most of them mentioned how the in-store services exceeded their expectations. They were knowledgeable, which made them breeze through the process.

A few who also bought their piano here mentioned great deals and a wide range of choices. From Kawai, Fazioli, and Yamaha to Steinway and Baldwin, they have it here.

Clients also mentioned that the pricing here for piano tuning is quite affordable.

We thought it was important to mention that out of every client we talked to, no one said anything bad about their experiences.

This is why we think that Portland Piano Company is truly worth being on the list of best piano tuning services in Portland.
