Pros

  • Offers repair and custom work
  • Operating 30+ years

Cons

  • A few clients told us that the quote given to them was incorrect

One of the reasons Curtis Custom Welding made it to our list of best welding services in Portland is how long they’ve been in business. Having operated over 30 years they’re now one of the leading welding businesses in the city.

This prompted us to investigate further so we could figure out in-depth what Curtis Custom Welding has to offer.

We learned that 75% of their work focuses on repairs while the other percentage focuses on custom work.

With years of experience and tools to complement that, it’s no wonder they can do jobs from repairs to full metal fabrication.

When we went out to hunt down their past clients to see what they thought about the service they received here, we also asked them what they liked and didn’t like.

To start, most of them commented on how friendly Ron, the person behind Curtis Custom Welding, was. They said he was really attentive to the needs of the clients and also attentive to the work he creates

A lot of Ron’s clients also said that he gets the work done fast, especially if it’s an emergency, so we think Curtis Custom Welding is the perfect place to go if you need rush jobs.

Moreover, some past clients also mentioned that Ron is skilled at making old things look new.

There was also some negative feedback from a few of them.

It was mostly from the quote given being incorrect. We think this could be because the job that was talked about over the phone turned out to be much larger when seen in person.

Still, we wanted to include this, so that it could be something that you’d consider as well.

But overall, we recommend Curtis Custom Welding for the skills that Ron has. He’s good at dealing with clients and being attentive to even the smallest details.

Pros

  • Has a wide range of services
  • You can easily request a quote online
  • Affordable prices

Cons

  • Some instances where they don’t answer calls or don’t call back

Gladiator Trailer Service is specifically for those who are looking for welding services for trailers, excavators, stump grinders, construction vehicles, and excavation equipment. They have been operating for 20 years and are local and family-owned.

Because of the years they’ve been in the welding industry, they are now able to provide their customers with metal repairs, hydraulic installations, and custom metal fabrication services.

They made it to our list mostly because their past customers that we reached out to loved how affordable the pricing was given to them.

We also found out that because of this, a lot of those we talked to were returning customers for years.

Other points from previous customers that are worth highlighting are the staff was quite friendly and they also work pretty fast.

We think it’s also important to note that a lot of them were satisfied with the work done because it’s of high quality with obvious attention to detail.

Aside from welding, they also offer truck body services. They’ll ask you several questions to figure out what model you need for the job you need to be done.

They also offer custom designs for your trucks in steel and aluminum.

From mini dump, and landscape body dump to heavy-duty construction and demolition dump bodies, they can cater to different needs for your business.

That said, when talking with some of their clients, a few also mentioned how it’s hard to get a call back from them. Sometimes, they don’t even answer the calls.

We think that they need improvement on their customer service in this aspect.

Pros

  • Has an extensive list of services available
  • Punctual when it comes to reaching deadlines
  • Quick turnaround time

Cons

  • Closes early

One of the reasons they made it to our list of best welding services in Portland is because of the different services they offer. Aside from welding, they also offer fabrication, CAD & CNC, forming, and shearing.

They handle small to grand-scale jobs with various equipment such as shape cutting, press breaks, shears, and so on.

The way they handle their welding projects seemed promising, which urged us to explore even further.

We decided to track down some of Versa-Tech’s past clients. We had a quick chat with them  to learn more about their experience with this company.

Most of them said that Versa-Tech’s pricing was reasonable for the quality of work done.

Some mentioned that this welding service always reached the deadlines given beforehand no matter how big or small the project was.

This is because the turnaround is so quick, so we think it’s safe to say they’re worth considering if you want to finish your projects as soon as possible.

Moreover, some also mentioned that the staff here was quite accommodating even if the job they asked for was small.

They still put a lot of thought and effort into it. We think that there’s no job too small for them, which is why we also would like to recommend them to those who are not looking for grand-scale jobs to be done.

While there were a lot of clients who had a lot of nice things to say, we think there’s something they need to improve on.

They’re only open during the weekends, which is like every other welding services shop out there, but they close early.

We think they’d be able to accommodate more people if they extend their work hours.

Other than that, we think they’re great. The staff is friendly and you get quality work with reasonable pricing.

Pros

  • Good communication throughout the project’s process
  • Fast turnaround time
  • The prices are reasonable

Cons

  • By appointment only

A lot of E4welds’s past customers loved them because of the quality of service they provided. We share the same sentiments with the customers because the turnaround time was quick but you can see that they did a great job with the project we asked for.

When we were also talking to the past clients, a lot of them quite liked how the welder communicated with them.

The welder gave constant updates and explained the process quite well in a way that doesn’t make the clients feel ignorant for not knowing specific terms.

We also agree with this because the welders answered our questions without judgment, which also helped us in learning a new thing or two.

They were also great at updating us on how the project is going, so it made us feel like we were a priority. It showed how focused they are on what needed to be done.

The pricing being reasonable and affordable is such a plus. We believe this is also the reason why other clients keep coming back here.

While there are a lot of positive reviews, we also thought it’s important to mention that they are, unfortunately, by appointment only.

While this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, we listed this as a con because you might need to adjust the schedule of your projects if it’s not aligned with their availability.

Pros

  • Provides heavy-duty metal fabrication
  • The welder finishes the job on time

Cons

  • They only have short work weeks

When we reached out to some of Flo Fab Freestyle Welding’s past clients, most of the clients said that the welders seemed to treat the projects like it was their own.

This is because they were enthusiastic about each idea that was laid out to them.

We took note of this because it shows the dedication of the team and the kind of craftsmanship they strive for.

They are by appointment only but a few of their past customers told us that Flo Flab was able to accommodate them very quickly, even setting their appointments for the same day they called.

Another thing we found out about Flo Flab Freestyle Welding is that they focus on big, heavy-duty jobs.

If your project is small-scale, they might not be the best option for you. However, if you have unique and specific needs for a grand-scale project, they might be one of your best bets.

A few of their past clients also mentioned that the welder they worked with was knowledgeable. We think it’s because of the years of hands-on experience they’ve had.

Some clients also liked how professional the customer service was. Aside from that, they also commended the speed and the quality of the work done.

Needless to say, Flo Flab Freestyle Welding is worth checking out because of the talented welders they hire.

However, there’s something we think needs improvement. Their work weeks are quite short, only Tuesdays to Fridays.

We think that they’d be able to accommodate more people if they extended a day or two like other shops on the list.

Pros

  • Welding classes and other metal work classes
  • Knowledgeable instructors

Cons

  • Operating hours unavailable
  • Welding classes instead of services

Wildcat Hobby Classes & Repair Shop is another place that specializes in welding.

This is owned and operated by Janette Manley, who’s been welding since 2015 and is willing to share all that she knows to everyone else.

But the thing about Wildcat is that they mainly offer classes in welding rather than offer welding services.

Here they offer multiple welding and metal work classes for anyone willing to learn, which we think is super cool.

They have introduction classes and personal lessons available.

We’ve heard many of their students find that their classes are worth it and that the instructors are incredibly knowledgeable and helpful.
