Pros

  • Gives free initial assessments
  • Offers cash discounts and medical loans
  • Price estimates available online
  • Understanding doctor
  • Gives thorough assessments

Cons

  • Some patients uncomfortable with doctor using his faith
  • A few patients claimed doctor made false promises

Northwest Fertility Clinic is run by Dr. Eugene Stoelk and has been open since 1986. Dr. Stoelk documents his own struggle with infertility with his wife, which allows him to be compassionate to his patients.

His patients are happy with his approach, and most of them have led to good results of conception. However, before you get there, Dr. Stoelk conducts a thorough assessment of you and your partner to determine the most suitable treatments.

It’s his demeanor that patients appreciate most because Dr. Stoelk understands how personal infertility problems can be, and he’s able to empathize with his patients through the whole process.

New patients can have a free initial assessment through the phone, and this is also a good way for you to measure whether you’re comfortable with Dr. Stoelk being your doctor.

We want to emphasize this because there have been patients who were uncomfortable with Dr. Stoelk’s use of his faith during practice.

These patients reported that they were asked to pray together before their treatment, which wasn’t something they personally wanted or preferred. If this is something you’re uncomfortable with, it may be better to look for other doctors on this list.

A few patients have also claimed that Dr. Stoelk made false promises about how and when they’ll be able to conceive, which ultimately left them disappointed.

We recognize that fertility and conception is a journey, and promises like this can negatively affect the patient.

Pros

  • Five doctors in-clinic
  • Credible doctors
  • Wide range of services and treatments
  • Has options for LGBTQ+ families

Cons

  • Doesn’t accept Medicare or Medicaid
  • Lack of communication from staff
  • Some mistakes made by staff regarding billing
  • Complaints of being overpriced

ORM Fertility has multiple locations around Oregon, but we chose this one for the credibility and demeanor of their doctors. There are five doctors in the clinic, so availability won’t be a problem.

What we like best about them is that they’ve got a wide range of services and treatments, including options for LGBTQ families. Their staff is also LGBTQ-friendly, which we know makes all the difference.

Their doctors will explore all available options with you, and patients appreciated how each treatment was explained well before they had to make a decision.

However, as with any medical practice, the compatibility between you and your practitioner is paramount, and we encourage you to do your own research about the doctors in their clinic.

The major drawback with ORM fertility is their staff, and this is where the majority of the complaints lie. Patients have complained about how hardly anyone picks up the phone, making them hard to reach.

There were also some instances of mistakes made by their financial team when it came to insurance billing, but luckily these were amended by them too.

Lastly, we strongly encourage you to contact them to get insurance information and your possible coverage, especially since they don’t accept Medicare or Medicaid.

There were also complaints about their treatments being overpriced compared to other fertility clinics, especially when you’re paying out of pocket or if your insurance only offers limited coverage. This is why speaking to them beforehand is essential.

Pros

  • Offers financing options
  • Wide range of services and treatments available
  • Doctors give realistic assessments
  • Patients feel like doctors genuinely care about them
  • Has four doctors in-clinic

Cons

  • Complaints about billing department
  • Can be hard to reach

Located in the OHSU Center, the OHSU Fertility Clinic has a total of seven doctors available—four fertility doctors and three fertility fellows.

Because they’re in a hospital, they have complete services and treatments available, may it be directly related to fertility or not. It will definitely save you a visit to other health centers should your doctor request you do other kinds of testing.

We were happy to hear that most of the patients at OHSU Fertility Clinic felt that their doctors genuinely cared about them and were attentive.

Their doctors also give realistic assessments regarding your situation, and while many patients were appreciative of this, some felt that this was too harsh and made them lose hope.

We can’t entirely blame the doctors for this because we value honesty in medical practice, even if what they tell you isn’t what you want to hear. Honest assessments can also save you money from spending on treatments that may not work for you.

The majority of the complaints about the OHSU Fertility Clinic were not about their doctors but about their office staff. Patients disliked dealing with the billing department, as they found them to be inefficient and at times rude.

There are also instances when reaching out to them will be difficult, and you’ll most likely end up making multiple calls before someone eventually picks up.

All this said, we do think they’re worth a visit, even if it’s just for an initial assessment or a second opinion.

Pros

  • Great bedside manner
  • Gives thorough assessments
  • Good communicator
  • Accepts most insurance plans
  • Offers financing options

Cons

  • Limited options for LGBTQ+ families
  • Complaints on pricing for consultations
  • Complaints on staff being inefficient

Oregon Fertility Institute only has one doctor in its clinic, Dr. Aimee Chang, but she has built a good reputation among families who struggle with fertility and wish to conceive.

It’s her bedside manner that patients value the most because they felt as though they were genuinely understood and that she listened to all they wanted to say.

She gives thorough assessments based on your circumstances, and she’s highly skilled in communicating too. So whether or not the news is good or bad, Dr. Chang delivers it in a way that’s considerate to the patient.

We also like how her clinic accepts nearly all insurance plans and even offers financing options to those who may need it.

Our only gripe with this is that her consultation fee seems to vary depending on your insurance provider, and several patients have claimed it was overpriced for a mere consultation.

There were also some complaints regarding her staff. Patients reported they were inefficient and slow, especially when it comes to insurance billing and scheduling follow-ups or giving updates.

We can generally recommend her to most families considering the great feedback we’ve heard, but unfortunately, her clinic has limited options for LGBTQ+ families.

She does accept LGBTQ+ patients, but we suggest that you look at the services they offer before choosing to see her so you can save both time and money in your consultation.

Pros

  • Great for LGBTQ+ families
  • Thorough process in vetting out their surrogates
  • Offers financing options
  • Fees are accessible online

Cons

  • Expensive
  • May insist on virtual consultations instead of in-person

Sometimes surrogacy is the best option for a couple to conceive a child, which is why we added Northwest Surrogacy Center on this list.

They work with both straight and LGBTQ+ families, so there’s no likelihood of discrimination here. What they prioritize most is finding the right surrogate for you and preparing all necessary paperwork.

You won’t have to worry about your surrogate’s health and overall background because they’ve already carefully screened and vetted all of their candidates to ensure they can carry a child full-term.

They will be there to assist you and your surrogate during the pregnancy, ensuring the surrogate and baby are both healthy. They’re also available to handle any question or issue you may have along the way.

Surrogacy isn’t cheap regardless of where you go, but the advantage with Northwest Surrogacy Center is that they offer financing options and their fees are accessible online.

However, their online estimates may still vary from your actual costs, which would depend on the delivery and other possible medical costs needed by the surrogate.

A common complaint among their clients is that the clinic tends to insist on virtual consultations, and while this may be due to health regulations and concerns, we do understand how important it is to have in-person consultations.

Don’t worry. You’ll still meet your surrogate personally before, and you can insist on an in-person consultation if that’s what you prefer.
