The 5 Best Kinesiologists in Portland for Improving Mobility

Practice & Training: We wanted practitioners who had training in things like sore backs, tight muscles, and whole-body health.

Safe Approaches: Nobody wants to waste time on something that doesn’t work or worse, something that could cause harm. We selected clinics that use methods backed by research.

Client-Centered: We selected practitioners who work with you rather than just telling you what to do. These ones listen to what you actually want, whether that’s running faster, staying pain-free as you get older, or avoiding injuries down the road.

Holistic Integration: A lot of people don’t just have “a body problem”. Stress, diet, or other factors can play a part too. That’s why we looked into how well practitioners integrate kinesiology with other practices such as food guidance, acupuncture, or energy work.

Nagging pain that doesn’t go away is just plain annoying. You try stretching, maybe even popping in a pain reliever or two, but nothing sticks.

If this sounds like you and you’re tired of feeling “off” in your body, it may be time to look beyond quick fixes. A skilled kinesiologist can make a real difference.

Kinesiology is a form of medicinal therapy that uses muscle monitoring to look at what’s causing pain in the body. While it sounds simple, the results depend heavily on the practitioner’s expertise. The wrong choice can leave you no better than when you started.

To help you avoid choosing the wrong one, we took the time to research and review kinesiology clinics in Portland. Below, you’ll find our picks for the best kinesiologists in Portland to help you get lasting relief.

Shellergy stands out for its focus on energy and the idea of “coming home” to the body, which immediately sets it apart from clinics that rely heavily on diagnostics and analysis.

We’re drawn to how simple and grounded their philosophy is: energy is sacred, and when it’s blocked or depleted, the body lets you know. Their sessions focus on pinpointing areas in the body where that energy is lacking.

Their kinesiology work aligns with goals such as realignment, clarity, and balance restoration. They offer two main sessions: the 20-minute Reset Session (available in-person or virtually) and the 60-minute Return Session.

One person shared that she tried the Reset Session when she felt stuck after a stressful period in her life. She said that in just 20 minutes, she felt refreshed.

The Return Session goes deeper, weaving body, mind, and soul to clear old emotions and patterns. Another person we spoke to said that after a few Return Sessions, he noticed his body pain had decreased significantly.

That said, this is not the clinic for mechanically driven injuries. Their work focuses more on using body energy to relieve pain than on addressing specific muscular or structural issues common to most pain-causing injuries.

Pros

  • Focuses on energy balance
  • 20 and 60-minute reset sessions
  • Virtual and in-person sessions
  • Helps clear stuck emotions
  • Relieves body pain

Cons

  • Doesn’t address muscular issues

She is incredibly knowledge and always knows how to guide you in the right direction

“I have no words to describe how much Shelly has helped me! I started seeing her postpartum for virtual personal training and then transitioned to energy work sessions (body, emotion, and belief code). In 7 months of working with her, I have learned so much about myself and we continue to dig deep and heal on a weekly basis. I refer to her as my “family healer”, as she now works with my husband, daughter, and mom, and has made a profound difference for all of us. Shelly is one of the most compassionate and kind people you will meet. She is incredibly knowledge and always knows how to guide you in the right direction – I couldn’t recommend her enough!”

Shelly is incredibly intuitive, compassionate

“Shelly is UHmazing. I started seeing her a few months ago for emotion, body, and belief code sessions and they have been life changing. Shelly is incredibly intuitive, compassionate, and so loving and relatable it’s the perfect combination you want when you are diving into trauma that’s stored in your body and belief systems. The things we’ve uncovered together through this system just in a few months have helped me, my daughter, and my husband exponentially. I cannot recommend her enough, thank you Shelly!!”

Travis Kane caught our attention for not treating kinesiology as a standalone tool. Instead, he uses it as a bridge between Traditional Chinese Medicine, applied kinesiology, structural therapy, and Western medicine.

Applied kinesiology is at the core of his work, and we appreciate that he pairs it with acupuncture to address the root causes of symptoms.

One patient we spoke to told us they’d struggled with recurring pain for years, and Travis used muscle testing to find a link to their digestive system and nutrient levels.

We also love that Travis develops personalized plans that use acupuncture, nutrition, and movement to eliminate symptoms altogether.

The best part? He offers a free 15-minute consult to all new patients.

That said, his approach isn’t fast-paced. One person we spoke with noted it took five sessions before she began to notice real changes. Those looking for an overnight fix might become impatient.

Pros

  • TCM and modern diagnostics
  • Applied kinesiology + acupuncture
  • Finds root causes
  • Personalized plans with acupuncture, nutrition, and movement
  • Free 15-minute consult

Cons

  • Takes over 5 sessions to see progress

He is a very knowledgeable and skilled practitioner

“I have been seeing Travis for several years.  He has helped me work through some difficult to treat, long-term health conditions.  I really can’t say enough good things about my experience with Travis.  He is a very knowledgeable and skilled practitioner, and he is very kind and patient.  I find his use of muscle testing to be very powerful for finding the root causes of health problems and guiding treatment.”

He is very present you as a patient

“I have seen Travis for several years now, and his work has helped me through digestive issues, car accident injuries, and pregnancy.  He is very present you as a patient, and intuitive and knowledgeable in his work.  Without fail I always leave treatments feeling calmer, happier and healthier.  I highly recommend him for a gentle and powerful healing approach!”

Dr. Thomas stands out for her approach to addressing all layers of health: structural, biochemical, emotional, and even subtle energetic systems.

She’s trained in Applied Kinesiology, structural manipulation, Neuro-Emotional Technique (NET), and Nutrition Response Testing (NRT).

Her kinesiology work doesn’t just target pain. It optimizes everything from organ function to brain performance. Her evidence-based approach covers all aspects of posture and movement therapy.

One client we talked to had struggled with chronic pain for years and said Dr. Thomas used AK to find links between her thyroid function, food sensitivities, and spinal alignment.

Others shared that they come to her for sports performance optimization and leave with better focus and less stress.

The only downside? She is popular, which means her schedule gets quite packed. A few people told us that when they tried booking their initial appointment, they had to wait up to 2 weeks. Follow-ups are usually spread out over weeks between visits.

Pros

  • Address every layer of health
  • Structural manipulation background
  • Neuro-emotional techniques
  • Nutrition response testing
  • Optimizes sports performance

Cons

  • Up to 2 weeks wait

Thank you for your expert help Noel

“I was referred to Noel by a friend who did Neurofeedback with her. After 30 sessions, I feel calmer and less reactionary to things that used to get me all fired up. This has affected many areas of my life and made me a better person. Thank you for your expert help Noel.”

Appreciate Dr. Thomas’ caring and her willingness

“Neurofeedback is a key tool in my healing and wellness toolbox, and I feel so grateful that Dr. Thomas was recommended to me. Specific benefits: I stopped a nervous-habit skin picking of decades after just a few sessions. More slowly, but surely, disaster scenario voices in my head have quieted, giving space for more thoughtful approaches to problem solving and decision making. I so appreciate Dr. Thomas’ caring and her willingness to keep thoughtfully answering my never-ending questions.”

Heart Spring Health’s trauma-informed, collaborative approach sets them apart. They are a naturopathic clinic offering kinesiology therapy in Portland, alongside other holistic care services.

We think it’s neat that they consider the whole person: physical body, mind, and emotions when doing any kinesiology treatments.

One woman we talked to had experienced trauma that left them with chronic muscle tightness.

She appreciated that they took the time to listen to her story and adjust their approach to what she was comfortable with.

Another person shared that Heart Spring’s team combined applied kinesiology with nutrition and integrative medicine to get to the root cause of his pain.

Another thing we love about Heart Spring is that they stay up-to-date with the latest research, which makes it easy for them to pair time-honored methods with new discoveries.

Plus, they partner with their patients’ existing healthcare team. This takes the stress out of coordinating care.

The con? Because they offer so many services, it can take some time to determine which practitioner or combination of therapies is a good fit. One man mentioned he had to have two initial appointments to map out his care plan.

Pros

  • Trauma informed
  • Kinesiology with nutrition
  • Integrative medicine
  • Stays updated on research
  • Partners with healthcare teams

Cons

  • Takes time to find a good fit

They made me feel comfortable right away and even kept checking to see if a sooner appointment became available

“I came to Hearth Spring Health with severe lower back pain and was looking for chiropractic and acupuncture care. Although the clinic was fully booked and I had to wait about a month for my first appointment, it was absolutely worth it. From the start, the entire reception team was beyond awesome so kind, welcoming, and attentive. They made me feel comfortable right away and even kept checking to see if a sooner appointment became available. Their care and professionalism really stood out.

When I finally had my appointment, my chiropractor was excellent as well thorough, knowledgeable, and supportive. I truly felt I was in good hands.

Overall, I can’t say enough great things about Hearth Spring Health. They combine outstanding care with an incredible team. Highly recommend!”

I’m so happy I discovered Heart Spring Health

“I’m so happy I discovered Heart Spring Health. Everyone has been very supportive, caring, and communicative. I’ve worked with Dr. Turner, Dr. Conway, Kalle, and Di, and they’ve all been great practitioners. Although I work in the medical field, I’m not usually trusting and comfortable recieving care, but everyone at HSH has been collaborative, non-judgmental, and trauma informed. The front desk staff have also been easy to work with and friendly. I’m also getting a lot out of the Radiant Health Membership and find that the clinic has provided me many resources to support my health and well-being during a stressful time in my life (as I navigate health issues, working, grad school, and parenting young kids).”

Better Forever’s lead specialist, Jeanne Kennedy, combines deep respect for the roots of Applied Kinesiology with her own innovative insights.

Her focus on regional function is what we love. She believes that pain anywhere in the body is connected. For example, neck and shoulder pain may be caused by issues in the hips, knees, or ankles.

One client we spoke to had shoulder pain and said Jeanne found that the real issue was linked to their hip alignment. We also love how she shows patients simple movements to do at home to keep things in check.

Her flexibility is awesome too. People like being able to come in for last-minute appointments and leave feeling refreshed.

That said, her style is very direct. A few of her clients mentioned she doesn’t spend a lot of time on “small talk,” which some people might find impersonal.

Pros

  • Innovative insights
  • Focus on regional function
  • Teaches at-home movements
  • Awesome flexibility
  • Offers last-minute appointments

Cons

  • A bit too blunt

I can not say enough about how amazing Dr. Jeanne is!

“I can not say enough about how amazing Dr. Jeanne is! She is very skilled at what she does, and actually listens to any and all concerns you may have. I’ve been seeing her for over 5 years now for NRT and she is also my go to chiropractor during this past year. Her chiro visits are everything! I injured my back earlier this year to the point where I couldn’t stand up straight. She squeezed me in for an emergency visit and was actually able to walk out of her office standing. Do not hesitate to schedule with her.”

Dr Kennedy is brilliant; she solved an issue in 30 minutes

“Dr Kennedy is brilliant; she solved an issue in 30 minutes that a team of physical therapists and chiropractors couldn’t figure out in about 6 months. She’s a chiropractor, and a kinesiologist, so her problem-solving skills with injuries is a cut above the rest. An expert in her field and friendly warm person.”
