The 5 Best Masonry Contractors in Portland for Jobs Built with Precision and Care!

Workmanship Quality: We evaluated the precision of mortar matching and clean structural layout on completed projects. Consistent craft ensures brickwork stands up to wet Pacific Northwest weather for decades.

Trade Expertise: We prioritized contractors with formal training and specialized experience in stone or historic brick restoration. Deep trade knowledge helps crews solve complex structural issues safely.

Pricing Transparency: We looked at how clearly each company outlines material fees and labor costs before work. Clear written estimates help property owners plan budgets without sudden financial surprises later.

Service Versatility: We assessed the range of services offered, from routine chimney maintenance to structural retaining wall builds. A versatile team saves you time when tackling multi-stage outdoor upgrades.

When we stopped by a project site in the southeast to look at their brickwork firsthand, the clean alignment on the mortar impressed us.

But keep in mind that their commercial services are strictly limited to small projects, not corporate builds.

Honest pricing and a perfect chimney rebuild

It was great working with Mark and his team with our chimney repair in northeast Portland.  He is a straight shooter, scoping out the work that was needed unlike other companies that tacked on unnecessary items to their quote.  They worked quickly and delivered a high quality chimney rebuild, leaving behind a polished workspace and final product.  Would 100% refer Dutch Masonry to friends and plan to use them again if needed.

A beautiful outdoor fireplace and true professionalism

I highly recommend Dutch Masonry for any fireplace/masonry needs.  Mark and his crew built a beautiful, outdoor rumford fireplace for us that has to be the favorite part of our recent remodel. He and his team were professional, timely, and communicative.  They started and finished the project exactly when they said they would.  I met with 6 masons to bid on the job.  Dutch Masonry was not the lowest bid, but their price was competitive. And I felt Mark asked excellent questions and had the best grasp of the project among his peers.

We like Best Way Masonry & Repairs for specializing in both modern brick builds and historic masonry restoration. They do this while also offering specialized seismic upgrades to help older structures survive earthquakes safely.

From what we’ve seen, this crew is very versatile. Aside from fixing cracked mortar joints and counterflashing, they build custom garden walls and even brick mailboxes.

On top of that, they handle full tuckpointing projects to protect historic homes across vintage neighborhoods.

As for their craftsmanship, we like their ability to match historic mortar colors, which makes them invaluable for local homeowners preserving classic architecture.

But their main focus is limited to residential and commercial repair work, so it doesn’t include massive industrial infrastructure projects.

Pros

  • Specialized seismic upgrades for brick structures
  • Handles historical masonry restoration and tuckpointing
  • Provides custom outdoor projects
  • Modern construction and historic restoration
  • Skilled at matching historic mortar colours

Cons

  • No large-scale industrial infrastructure work

Seamless repair work and true craftsmanship

Recently, I hired Best Way Masonry & Repairs to fix the brickwork on the front of my garage. The brick had been damaged by a car and needed to be completely demolished and rebuilt. Brandon from Best Way was able to reuse most of the original brick, and since the exact brick is no longer made, he skillfully feathered in some new brick to ensure a seamless appearance.

The craftsmanship and pride Brandon displayed were evident throughout the project. I was very impressed with the results and would highly recommend Best Way Masonry & Repairs for any masonry work.

10/10 quality work and fair pricing

I loved working with the whole Best Way team. They have great communication, quality work, and fair pricing!  They scheduled quickly and didn’t leave a mess. 10 out of 10 and would highly recommend them and specifically Nate, who did an amazing job rebuilding out houses’ brick facade!

4. Alliance Chimney & Masonry

Areas Served: Portland, Beaverton, Gresham, and surrounding metro areas

Contact: (503) 381-1251

Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM | Saturday 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM

One of our picks, Alliance Chimney & Masonry, specializes in chimney-focused brickwork, combining tuckpointing, crown rebuilds, and wood stove insert installations under one service team.

It’s fantastic how they can handle every upper-level structural issue, which simplifies exterior maintenance for busy property owners.

They also inspect, sweep, and rebuild brick chimneys with impressive skill while ensuring flashing stops rain leaks.

Our team first heard of them when a colleague’s neighbor hired their team for a full chimney inspection and crown restoration. The crew received only praise for how clean they kept the roof space throughout the project.

To make things convenient, their office is even open on Saturdays, which is a surprise since most contractors we’ve seen in the area aren’t.

However, their masonry services remain strictly limited to chimney structures, brick restoration, and stove inserts rather than ground-level paving or retaining walls.

Pros

  • Chimney masonry, sweeping, and inspection services
  • Installs wood stove inserts and custom chimney caps
  • Rebuilds cracked brick crowns and restores flashing
  • Open on Saturdays

Cons

  • Services restricted to chimney and wood stove projects

Honest service with zero upselling

I had a great experience with Alliance. They took my 1964 two sided fireplace that was in poor shape and got it in good working order within a few hours. This company is prompt, has good communication, is professional, reasonable, and fast. I had a bad experience with a DIFFERENT chimney company that tried to upsell me on things Alliance said were fine and in good working condition. I appreciate their honesty and would recommend them to anyone.

No more rain in my chimney!

Very happy with the service. Originally had them out to clean and inspect chimney, and based on their recommendation, had them out later for repair. It no longer rains down my chimney and I am a satisfied customer

5. Masonry Waterproofing and Drainage Masters

masonry-waterproofing-and-drainage-masters

Website:https://masonrymasters.com/

Address: 17266 SE Oatfield Rd, Milwaukie

Contact: (503) 966-0204

Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

We chose Masonry Waterproofing and Drainage Masters because they go beyond surface-level brick repairs by addressing the underlying causes of masonry damage.

Their approach combines brick restoration with drainage solutions and foundation repair to help prevent recurring issues caused by shifting soil or moisture buildup beneath the home.

Plus, their team repairs damaged block walls while installing basement waterproofing systems to keep water out for good. They even prepare real estate inspection reports to help sellers document structural fixes before closing home sales.

We also want to mention that they’re solid for covering the entire Portland metro area, making them more accessible.

But keep in mind that their work centers mostly on repair, waterproofing, and structural restoration rather than building new decorative outdoor living spaces from scratch.

Pros

  • Masonry repair with foundation fixing and drainage
  • Real estate transaction inspection reports
  • Basement waterproofing and concrete patching
  • Broad service area across the entire Portland metro area

Cons

  • Focuses on repairs rather than new custom outdoor builds

Customer Reviews

Went above and beyond on our aging chimney

The folks at Masonry & Waterproofing did an excellent job firming up the crawl space at our cabin. They not only added new beams, posts and pier blocks but mucked out all the debris that had been left behind over the decades and added a plastic moisture barrier. When it became apparent some more support was needed they took care of it without additional charges. They also took care of an aging chimney and added flashing and crowning to control water seepage.

And they were easy and pleasant to work with.

Feel free to contact us as a reference.

Quick communication and a safe, clean chimney

Masonry Waterproofing and Drainage Masters re-pointed and cleaned the chimney of our home. Their work was expeditious. We’re very excited to use our fireplace this winter, and now feel safe doing so. The company is easy to contact and replies quickly by text, which we appreciated.
