Top 5 Naturopathic Doctors in Portland
How We Picked Naturopaths in Portland
Expertise
You want your doctors to be board certified and have the appropriate clinic experience. This is based on a doctor or clinic’s qualifications and years of practice.
Approach
It’s important to have a doctor you deem as approachable and friendly. We chose naturopathic doctors who have good bedside manners with their patients.
Services Offered
Naturopathic doctors usually offer multiple services in their clinic. We chose clinics with a wide variety of services to save you effort from finding different practitioners.
Cost
Many insurance providers don’t add naturopathic doctors into their network, so we chose clinics that can give you excellent quality of care for reasonable prices. But if they take insurance, we’re sure to take note of it.

Pros
- Doctor works with your lifestyle
- Good listener
- Can order their supplements online
- Good record of patient loyalty
- Offers free 10-minute virtual consult
Cons
- Can be expensive
- Reports of fungus treatment being ineffective
Oregon Natural Medicine is run by naturopathic doctor John Reynolds. The clinic has been open since 2010, and they’ve since built a good reputation among its patients.
According to his patients, Dr. Reynolds is a kind and caring doctor who listens to them well. He takes time to understand each patient and wants to look at not only your health background but also your lifestyle.
Other than herbal medicine, he may also prescribe lifestyle or dietary changes. If this won’t enough, he can also conduct hormone therapy, which is mostly used for men going through andropause and perimenopausal or menopausal women.
He stays true to his practice by prescribing as few meds as possible, and this is evident with his low-dose naltrexone treatment. We find this especially important to those trying to wean off their dependence on different addictive substances.
One of the most popular treatments he offers in his clinic is the laser toenail treatment which is meant to remove fungal infections, but unfortunately, we’ve heard from multiple patients that this was ineffective.
This treatment is also a bit expensive at $299 for one foot and $399 for both feet, and with the complaints of its ineffectiveness, we’re not sure if it’s worth it.
If you’re unsure whether he’s the right naturopathic doctor for you, you can call them and request a free 10-minute virtual consultation.

Pros
- Attentive doctors
- Will help you adjust your lifestyle
- 1-hour long consultations
- Has 2 doctors and 2 acupuncturists
- Takes some insurance plans
Cons
- Pharmacy isn’t open to the public
- High no-show fee for missed appointments
Seven Circles Natural Medicine has two naturopathic doctors and two acupuncturists in their clinic, so you know there’s always going to be someone who can attend to you.
Most of their patients have found the doctors Dr. Haverty and Dr. Priscal to be attentive and thorough in their assessments. They’re holistic in their approach and will aid their patients to make necessary lifestyle changes for their health.
Not only that, each consultation runs for an hour, so there’s no need to feel rushed. You must make it to your scheduled appointment because they charge a $50 no-show fee for the first cancellation and the full appointment fee thereafter.
During your consultation, you’ll be given a comprehensive evaluation, but it’s up to you whether you want to add other services like acupuncture or cupping.
The patients who’ve come to them to receive acupuncture have reported less pain after their first few sessions and have remained to be regulars in the clinic.
It’s also possible that you may be prescribed something from their pharmacy, which can be herbal topicals, salves, or herbal blends.
They make custom formulations for their patients, so if you plan to purchase something from their pharmacy, you must be their patient first.
As a final bonus, they also accept some insurance plans, but it’s advisable to call them first and confirm. Otherwise, you can pay by cash or card.

Pros
- Wide range of services
- Accepts most major insurance plans
- Caring approach
- Lots of doctors available
- Thorough appointments
Cons
- Quality of service varies by practitioner
- Can be hard to reach
Kwan Yin Healing Arts Center integrates both Western and alternative medicine in their clinic and offers a wide range of services. They’ve got naturopathic and medical doctors, chiropractors, and acupuncturists.
Due to the scope of their clinic, they accept most major insurance plans, but it would still be advisable to check which services your insurance will accept.
They’ve got two locations in Portland, and with over 40 different providers, it won’t be hard to get yourself an appointment. However, we would encourage you to ask for references to find the best provider for you.
While most of their patients were pleased with the level of care they received, a few were unsatisfied with their specific providers and didn’t feel as though they were understood.
However, you can always request another provider from them if you’re still keen on acquiring their services.
On the appointments that do go well, patients remarked that their doctors were thorough in their assessments and suggested a combination of natural medicine and dietary and lifestyle changes.
They may suggest acupuncture or chiropractic, but it’s still up to you whether you’d want to undergo these treatments.
Despite having two locations, there are reports of them not picking up the phone, and we suggest that you fill up their online form for an appointment instead.
4. QC Natural Health

Pros
- Offers free 15-minute phone consultation
- 1-hour long initial consultations
- Good listener
- Willing to coordinate with your medical doctor
- Focuses on gut health
Cons
- Won’t bill insurance
- Limited range of service
QC Natural Health is run by Dr. Emily Wolbers, whose practice focuses around keeping your gut healthy.
She’s the best pick if you’re thinking you may have intolerances to certain food groups. You can order their food intolerance kit online for $279, and all you’ll have to do is prick your finger and send it to the clinic.
The price is already inclusive of the follow-up visit with Dr. Wolbers, and because of that, we think it’s worth the money. If this is too much for you, you can opt to have nutritional counseling instead through a consultation.
You may be unsure about the kind of treatment you’ll need, so you can avail of a free 15-minute phone consultation with Dr. Wolbers. This is only for first-time patients, and if you’ve visited her before, you’ll have to schedule a regular appointment.
What we like best about her is that she’s willing to coordinate with your medical doctor if you have any prior diagnoses and to make sure the meds you’re currently taking won’t interfere with your naturopathic treatment.
That said, she doesn’t offer a lot of services other than nutrition and lifestyle-based treatments, so if you’re looking for specific tests or acupuncture, it’s best to look elsewhere.
Her clinic also doesn’t bill insurance, and while this is common among naturopathic clinics, it’s best for you to know in advance, as you’ll have to pay out of pocket.
5. Naturopathic Gastro

Pros
- Free 15-min consultation for new patients
- 4 doctors in clinic
- Good record of patient loyalty
- Focuses on GI health and gastroenterology
Cons
- A few unsatisfied with the care they received
- Quality of service varies by practitioner
As its name says, Naturopathic Gastro focuses on gastroenterology and the overall health of your GI tract. To do this they may make suggestions for your lifestyle or diet, or you may opt to take neural therapy or Chinese medicine.
The approach they take to gastroenterology is different from medical gastroenterologists because they look at all possible factors in your life that may be contributing to your condition.
Many of their patients came to visit them after having tried usual medical treatments with no results and were glad to report improvements after they visited Naturopathic Gastro.
We’ve discovered that they have a good record of patient loyalty, and patients who have recovered still routinely come back for acupuncture or for their routine checkups.
Most were happy with the level of care they received in the clinic. However, there are a few who were left unsatisfied and reported that they had no improvements after their visit.
There are four doctors in the clinic, and this means the quality of care may vary with each provider, as each one would have a different approach, and just because a certain doctor has glowing reviews doesn’t mean they’ll be the right one for you.
Thus, we encourage you to research the doctors they have in the clinic and take the free 15-minute consultation.
