The 5 Best Photo Printing Places in Portland

The 5 Best Photo Printing Places in Portland

How We Picked

Quality of printing

We picked companies that offer a wide range of printing options (including photo sizes and customization). We also looked into the production equipment used and saw if they have adequate tools to print multiple requests at a given time.

Range of capabilities

We picked places that offer a diverse selection of printing materials including customized printing. Basically, the better the printing capabilities are, the better for us.

Credibility

We chose services that have at least 1 year of experience. We also dug up their project history to assess the types of clients they serve and see the quality of their respective prints.

Level of customer service

Customer service is of utmost importance to us in any service. We chose places that have a high quality of customer care, communication, and transparency.

Pricing and discounts

We looked for good value for money, particularly with any printing packages offered. Having discounts isn’t necessary but it gains a plus in our book.

Pros

  • Over 40 years in business
  • Uses high-quality photo reproduction equipment
  • Wide selection of printing materials
  • Digital printing available
  • Works with artists and photographers
  • Upfront pricing
  • Drop ships orders

Cons

  • Sundays are by appointment only

Gango Custom Printing specializes in fine art and photographic printing, which is why it’s popular among Portland’s amateur artists and photographers. Actually, they don’t just print photos for their customers – they also turn them into beautiful art reproductions.

They took the top spot on our list for a number of reasons.

For starters, they provide a diverse range of printmaking resources to artists and photographers. This includes file preparation, image scanning, custom framing, canvas stretching, and even graphic design work (which would’ve cost a pretty penny somewhere else).

What truly won us over was their use of giclée printing, the highest quality photo reproduction available today. This will undoubtedly provide excellent color accuracy and amazingly detailed prints for both the fine art and professional photography markets.

Another reason is that they produce photos on various substrates they have: canvas, matte paper, photo paper, fine art paper, and more. Having a wide selection of paper material options is, for us, a very important factor for an ideal photo printing shop.

The rates on every service they provide are also available on their website, which is a good starting sign to believe they incorporate honest pricing. And if you need custom printing, they will provide you with a free quote or estimate.

With nearly 40 years of experience working with artists and reproducing art, it’s easy to say they’re more than just a printing company. Clients can expect them to push images for high-quality printing, which is a substantial factor to us.

Pros

  • Specializes on printing photos on canvas
  • Free file preparation service
  • Uses standard quality printer and printing materials
  • Guarantees 3-day turnaround time
  • Low prices
  • Ships worldwide

Cons

  • No special pricing for professionals
  • Minor complaints about slow turnaround time

Photo to Canvas is the best place to go if you want to print your photos on canvas, as their name implies. They do, however, do standard photo printing on paper, so you can still go to them if canvas isn’t much of your thing.

What sets them apart is their free file preparation. The thing is, most print shops only print what customers send them – no edits or extra adjustments as such.

But, our assessment revealed that they go over every photo and use several professional enlarging programs to achieve the best results. This is perfectly fine with us, of course, as long as the clients send a go signal to do so.

Regarding that, Photo-to-Canvas can make their clients’ photos as large as they want, while keeping the photo’s quality in mind. Using top enlargement techniques, even phone captures can be enlarged to several feet wide or tall.

When it comes to the materials they use, they can easily be a clear choice for top-quality printing. In fact, they use Canon large format printers and print on high-quality (Breathing Colors) papers and canvases, as well as standard photo paper.

On the other hand, despite their efforts to keep turnaround times as short as possible, some customers find their delivery service to be slow. However, the shop guarantees 3 business days to complete every order, which for us is a pretty standard waiting time.

Pricing structure is also another factor we considered and it’s nice to know that their prints are priced as low as they can. This means that professionals don’t receive special pricing, but bulk order prices are negotiable.

Pros

  • Easy-to-use online photo printing service
  • Uses professional luster paper for the optimal quality of photos
  • Quick photo printing services
  • Ships the next business day
  • Starting at 39 cents each print (4×6)

Cons

  • Doesn’t always guarantee the quality of images printed from small Facebook files
  • Minimum order is around $5

Picture Perfect’s easy, fast, and high-quality prints make them an appealing option for clients in need of quick service. Not to mention the fact that some customers may even qualify for free pickup or delivery – pretty neat deal!

As mentioned, they’ve been producing photo prints in a timely manner since orders are printed as soon as possible (also, the majority of them are shipped the next business day). And that’s why we believe they’re an ideal choice for time-sensitive projects.

Their photo prints also met our standards as they only use professional luster paper for the best possible quality of photos. To our frustration though, they don’t guarantee the quality of images printed from small Facebook files.

Fortunately, they offer an alternative solution, although requiring a bit of “techy” work to get it right. Simply put, when uploading to Facebook, choose larger files to get better quality results; Safari appears to work best for Mac users.

We also say that they’re one of the best photo-printing websites for customers on a tight budget, with low print prices that don’t sacrifice quality. The smallest print size they offer (4×6) can be purchased for as little as 39 cents each.

However, the minimum online order is $5.00, which for us, is still quite convenient, especially for bulk orders. Particularly since, as previously stated, they select projects that may be eligible for free pickup or delivery (the overall deal can save you a lot).

Pros

  • Prints developed film photos
  • Offers editing services
  • Has developed and printed packages
  • Also prints digital images
  • Has an online platform to order prints
  • Photo products available

Cons

  • Can be costly
  • Minor notes about poor customer service

Pro Photo Supply Photo Lab, although specializing in digital photographic images, is a convenient photo printing choice for film photographers. They develop the photos and upload them online, so other customers can order prints.

We understand how difficult it can be for film photographers to find a location where they can develop and have their photos printed at the same time. This place offers the convenience of doing both – plus customers can also have their photos edited if they wish.

Speaking of that, their editing service comes with three options: standard, premium, and custom. The before and after photos they have on their website wowed us, gaining our trust that they’re great with corrections and certain adjustments.

Having film developed and printed at the same time can be costly, so it’s a good thing they offer packages. The lowest package is around $15, but do note that services and prices are still subject to change due to changing film processes.

Customers can also upload digital images and have them printed on almost any product they can think of. We enjoy this service because of the numerous options available on their website, and the steps are easy and simple for ordering prints.

In this regard, Pro Photo Supply can print any photos taken from a camera, a phone, or downloaded from social media via their website (where customers can custom edit their photos). They can find a ‘quick order’ option there, which will surely be convenient.

Pros

  • Popular for photo print artworks
  • Wide range of printing capabilities and selections
  • Environmentally friendly printing shop
  • In-demand for printing wedding and celebration photos
  • Upfront prices

Cons

  • Uses short run printer for photos

Symbiosis Printing has served a variety of customers over the course of their service in the industry. They’ve printed for photographers, artists, entrepreneurs, small business owners, designers, restaurant managers, and many more.

Looking at their profile, their long list of customers is simply because of the range of printing capabilities they offer. At their service, photos can be printed on many substrates, including metal and high-quality papers.

They’re an environmentally friendly printing shop because the equipment they use is as free of pollutants as possible. Even though they use a short-run printer, this is still good news for us because they print only what you need, resulting in less waste.

Symbiosis’ wide range of printing selections is also another reason for their demand in the industry. Their most popular printing service is producing photo prints of artwork, which is not surprising given that the majority of their clients are artists.

As a matter of fact, they can even print photos from smartphones and turn them into beautiful artwork, something that traditional printing shops aren’t always capable of. They’re also very in demand for printing wedding and celebration photos, so take note of that.

Finally, their solid five-star rating on reputable online review sites speaks a lot about their customer service (and we take the voice of people to confirm this). Moreover, their prices are upfront, which is always a good assurance to us.
