How We Picked

Atmosphere

It’s important for your trip to the doctor to be a pleasant experience. That’s why we considered the cleanliness and peacefulness of the clinic.

Quality of Care

We also included doctors who are not only good at their job, but also provide a pleasant experience. We based this on the doctors’ and the staff’s attitude as well as the waiting time.

Credibility

We also considered their educational background and their past experiences to better evaluate their expertise.

Pros

  • Pleasant office environment
  • The appointment wasn’t rushed and started on time

Cons

  • There was a negative review online about how could take a while to get tests done

We included Dr. Dutta on our list of the best urologists in Portland because of the constant feedback we got about their appointment starting on time.

We don’t know about you, but when we think of a doctor’s appointment, a long wait outside the doctor’s office is usually the first thing that comes to mind.

We also love how he explained each medical term to us and was very thorough when it comes to answering our concerns.

Aside from numerous satisfied clients, his credentials are also something to commend. He graduated from the University of Southern California School of Medicine in 1996.

He has substantial experience when it comes to minimally invasive treatments for BHP, stone disease, urinary conditions, and the use of the DaVinci surgical system for genitourinary cancers.

Moreover, Dr. Dutta also researched how certain urologic treatments influence a patient’s quality of life.

One thing we’re unsure about was receiving a negative review about how it could take weeks to get tests done by Dr. Dutta. It was only one review so it could be a one-off experience, but it’s still worth giving a thought to.

With that in mind, we still think Dr. Dutta has proved his expertise through years of experience and a number of satisfied clients.

Pros

  • Provides telehealth appointments
  • Dr. Druskin trained in the world-renowned Johns Hopkins Hospital Brady Urological Institute

Cons

  • Negative reviews about the clinic staff
  • Some people experienced long waiting time

A lot of his clients commented on how comfortable their experience with Dr. Druskin was because they know they’re in good hands.

We can see why because we were able to discern his expertise with the way he carries himself and how he explains the next procedures to us. We left Dr. Druskin’s office with a sound mind.

Since they’re closed on the weekends, this could be an inconvenience for some. That’s why we also found it quite handy that they provide telehealth appointments.

Aside from being able to provide top-notch service to his clientele, we would also like to note that he also has a remarkable educational background.

Having completed medical school at Cornell University in Manhattan, he soon after trained in Urology at Johns Hopkins Hospital Brady Urological Institute.

After that, he underwent undergraduate training at The University of Chicago.

Because of his sparkling credentials, you can also trust that Dr. Druskin has trained under world-renowned doctors.

We also think it’s important to note that he treats men and women with different urologic conditions.

While there were no negative reviews about Dr. Druskin online as of writing, there were quite a few who commented on the customer service of the staff.

Some never had their calls answered and one even waited for hours because the reception desk never called their doctor.

We made sure to take note of this because we understand that this could be deeply frustrating.

If you want exceptional service from the staff to the doctor, it might be a good idea to look elsewhere. But if you want Dr. Druskin’s expertise in his field, we still believe he’s worth going to.

  • Has over 36 years of experience
  • Telehealth services are available
  • Was chosen as one of the nation’s top urologist by the Consumers’ Research Council of America

Cons

  • Might be difficult to schedule appointments
  • Long wait time

How long a doctor has been in business is one of the ways to make sure they’re dependable, skilled, and knowledgeable.

We added Dr. Shaffer to the list of best urologists in Portland because of the longevity of his experience in his field. He was also included as the nation’s top urologist by the Consumers’ Research Council of America.

Furthermore, his credentials are also exceptional.

He graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1986.

After 6 years, he completed his 2 years of general surgery and 4 years of urologic training at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Not only that, in 1994, he also finished a 2-year fellowship at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Reconstructive Genitourinary Surgery.

From there, he learned how to relate plastic surgery principles to difficult urologic reconstructive problems.

He’s been working at NW Urology since July 1994.

We received hardly any comments that said anything negative about Dr. Shaffer. We did, however, see one or two that commented on how hard it was to schedule appointments.

Someone also indicated that there was a long wait time while they were there.

Overall, a lot of the messages we received indicated a pleasant experience with Dr. Shaffer. We believe him to be trustworthy and a proven expert in his field.

Pros

  • Accommodating doctor
  • Has great interpersonal skills

Cons

  • Some commented how there wasn’t enough time to ask the doctor questions

One of the reasons why our visit with Dr. Janoff was pleasant was because he was easy to work with. His great interpersonal skills shined through during our meeting, making our visit comfortable and pleasant.

A lot of his past clients who sent us messages seem to think so too. They appreciated how he managed to explain the tests, medications, and procedures quite well.

Another even added that Dr. Janoff delivered sensitive news in the best way possible – being clear about the next step with the assurance that he will do his utmost best.

Aside from positive reviews from people who were under his care, Dr. Janoff’s credentials are also something to look at.

He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of California with a degree in Psychobiology.

In 1999, he graduated from the University of California, Irvine, College of Medicine.

He has been with NW Urology since 2005 after completing a urology residency at Oregon Health and Sciences University.

Moreover, he was also able to co-author various publications relating to urology such as prostate cancer, prostate cancer, kidney imaging by computerized tomography, endoscopic management of ureteral stricture disease, and congenital urological anomalies.

While we think that our experience with Dr. Janoff answered all our concerns, there were a few people who expressed their frustration with the lack of time during their appointments.

We think this is an important point to review when you choose which urologist would be best for you.

Overall, we believe Dr. Janoff provides outstanding service and is worth considering.

Pros

  • Dr. Spettel’s research is the winner of the 2010 Earl Nation Urologic History Award
  • Her works have been published nationally

Cons

  • A lot of people said their appointments felt rushed

We appreciate a doctor with extensive knowledge of their field, especially someone like Dr. Spettel who has several accomplishments behind their work.

While looking at Dr. Spettel’s history, it is evident that her research is one of the things to boast about. Her works about urinary incontinence, video urodynamic testing, kidney stones, and markers for bladder cancer were published nationally.

Moreover, she even won the 2010 Earl Nation Urologic History Award.

Dr. Spettel completed her undergraduate studies at Barnard College in New York. She also graduated from Drexel University College of Medicine.

After finishing her urology residency at Albany Medical College, she then joined Northwest Urology.

Our experience with her was pleasant and based on hundreds of reviews we’ve received with it saying the same thing, her clients seem to think so too.

She was straight to the point, which depending on the client, could be a good or bad thing.

A lot of people also commented on how prepared she was. As soon as they entered the door, Dr. Spettel already has an idea about the following procedures.

Having said that, there were quite a few who felt it was too rushed, saying they would appreciate having more time with their doctor.

Nevertheless, we think Dr. Spettel is worth recommending especially if you’re looking for an exemplary academic as a doctor.
